The dura-like membrane (DLM) is an outermost membranous structure arising from the dura mater adjacent to the internal auditory meatus (IAM) that envelops some vestibular schwannomas (VSs). Its recognition is important for the preservation of the facial and cochlear nerves during tumor resection. This study analyzes the histopathological characteristics of the DLM. The expression of CD34 and αSMA was histopathologically analyzed in tumor and DLM tissue of 10 primary VSs with and without a DLM. Tumor volume, resection volume percentage, microvessel density (MVD), and vessel diameter were analyzed. Volumetric analysis revealed that the presence of a DLM was significantly associated with lower tumor resection volume (p < 0.05). Intratumoral vessel diameter was significantly larger in the DLM group than the non-DLM group (p < 0.01). Larger VSs showed a higher intratumoral MVD in the DLM group (p < 0.05). Multilayered αSMA-positive vessels were identified in the DLM, tumor, and border; there tended to be more of these vessels within the tumor in the DLM group compared to the non-DLM group (p = 0.08). These arteriogenic characteristics suggest that the DLM is formed as the tumor induces feeding vessels from the dura mater around the IAM.

The present study aimed to evaluate the hepatoprotective potential of methanolic whole plant extract of Persicaria hydropiper in carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced hepatotoxicity model. Hepatotoxicity was induced in rats by intraperitoneal administration of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) for seven days. The extract was thereafter administered at two different doses of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg body weight for next seven days. Silymarin was used as a reference standard. The extract revealed hepatoprotective activity in dose dependent manner. The dose of 400 mg/kg exhibited maximum hepatoprotective ability as apparent from several evaluation parameters including liver function profile, bilirubin, antioxidant enzymes as well as histopathological investigation which was comparable to the standard drug Silymarin respectively. These findings sustenance the use of the extract as an adjuvant with existing therapy for treatment of liver ailments.

The importance of close co-operation of ophthalmologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuro-ophthalmopathologists as well in clinical as in scientific settings is underlined. Typical neuro-ophthalmopathological examples of frequent and rare cases from pathology of the eyelid, the cornea, intraocular tumors, ocular trauma and tumors of the orbit are presented as well as systemic pathologies such as inflammatory diseases of the eye, phakomatoses, malformations and mitochondrial disorders in which the histopathological investigation by neuro-ophthalmopathologists may contribute to diagnosis and therapeutic decision-making. The chosen examples should provide a narrow focus on some clinical queries answered by neuro-ophthalmopathology and exemplify methodological options, but – in the given frame – cannot represent the full range of eye pathology. Relevant literature is included for further reading. Ophthalmologists, neurologists and neurosurgeons should be aware from the additional value of a concise neuro-ophthalmopathological diagnosis for the optimal treatment of eye diseases and should insist in a professional neuro-ophthalmopathological investigation whenever and wherever possible.

A 3-week-old suckling piglet spontaneously died after septicemic colibacillosis. At postmortem examination, bulging and ulcerated lesions were seen, affecting the oral mucosa on the inner surface of the lower lip. After histopathological investigation, the diagnosis of congenital oral squamous cell carcinoma was made. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of congenital oral squamous cell carcinoma ever described. A relationship has been shown or suggested between papillomavirus infection and oral squamous cell carcinoma in humans and animals. However, next-generation sequencing study did not demonstrate any papillomavirus sequences in the case reported herein.

Anatrichosoma spp. is a group of trichuroid nematodes that mainly infect non-human primates and domestic cats. The lifecycle of these nematodes remains unclear. In non-human primates, Anatrichosoma spp. were found in the nasal cavity. However, ulcerative dermatitis has been reported in infected cats. An adult, intact, female domestic short-haired cat was presented with ulcerative pododermatitis of all limbs. Punch biopsy was performed at the edge of the ulcerative wound for histopathological investigation and showed necrosis and infiltration of inflammatory cells around the nematode-like lesion. Eggs with Capillaria-like characteristics were present. Tissue sections were subjected to DNA extraction and PCR targeting 18S rRNA, using primers designed from Anatrichosoma 18S rRNA. The phylogenetic tree revealed that DNA obtained from the lesion of the domestic cat was grouped with Anatrichosoma spp. from the olive glass mouse (Abothirx olivacea), Capillaria plica and Eucoleus aerophilus, both from the red fox (Vulpes Vulpes). The study is the first report of feline anatrichosomiasis in Thailand, and we present both pathological findings and molecular evidence. The cat was successfully treated with emodepsine/praziquantel. The skin lesion recovered within 3 days after anthelmintic treatment. Because Anatrichosoma spp. have been reported in humans, the zoonotic potential of this parasite should be considered.

Drugs addiction considered a massive problem persist in diverse populations everywhere the world. Our work aimed to illustrate the correlation between drug addiction and reproductive function in an animal model, also the potential impact of pregabalin (Lyrica) intake on spermatozoa formation process and sexual hormone levels. In this study, we used 14 adult healthy rats that allocated into two groups (n = 7) as control and treated that orally administrated with pregabalin (23.7 mg/kg) for 30 subsequent days. Reproductive hormones, spermatozoa parameters (motility and morphology), lipid peroxidation (MDA), nitric oxide, total antioxidant activity, DNA damage and histopathological investigation were performed. The results revealed that pregabalin addiction had a harmful impact on the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad axis of male rats through hindered hormones secretion, raised reactive oxygen species, affect antioxidant enzymes, triggered DNA damage and distorted testicular histology. Finally, we found that addiction of Lyrica caused adverse impact on the male reproductive health and subsequently affect fertility.

Lagerstroemia indica, is a natural plant which have traditional use from the ancient medicine for the treatment of many diseases. The gastroprotective effect of methanolic extract of Lagerstroemia indica and the possible mechanisms used to investigated the ulcer activity through indomethacin-induced ulcer model. Method: male Wistar rats were divided into three groups: (normal control, n=6), (standard omeprazole group, n=6) and (extract group, n=6). Each of control, omeprazole and extract were administered orally to the rats daily for 21 days before the induction of ulcer with the help of indomethacin. On the 21 days indomethacin was administered with single oral dose (20mg/kg). Four hours later after the administration of indomethacin dose treatment, the rats were sacrificed and gastric tissue was taken for histopathological investigation for the calculation of pH, ulcer inhibition, ulcer index. The observation significantly increased (p < 0.01) value that reduced the ulcer by the treatment with Lagerstroemia indica. Result: The result indicates the antiulcer effect of the Lagerstroemia indica extracts showed significant effect during comparision with control and standard group. The data of study revealed that the extracts of Lagerstroemia indica proved to show control over the model of indomethacin-induced gastric ulceration which gives potent activity against ulceration.

In recent time several imaging modalities have been implicated for diagnosing periapical lesion. The present study is carried out to determine and compare the nature and extent of periapical lesions using conventional radiography, digital radiography and ultrasound imaging and to confirm the diagnosis with histopathological examination. Thirty patients aged between 15 and 45 years with well-defined periapical radiolucency associated with anterior maxillary or mandibular teeth requiring endodontic surgery or extraction were selected. The pre-operative intraoral periapical radiographs and digital images and were diagnosed by three observers. Ultrasound examination was performed and the images were assessed by an ultrasonographer. The periapical tissues were obtained to enable histopathological investigation. The data was statistically analysed using the kappa procedure, Kruskal Wallis Anova & Mann-Whitney U test. Results showed that the percentage accuracy of diagnosing periapical lesions using conventional radiography, digital radiography and ultrasound was – 86.67%, 93.33% & 93.33% respectively. Thus, we conclude that ultrasound helps in distinguishing between periapical granuloma and cyst which is of importance in predicting the treatment outcome. So, ultrasound can be used as an adjunct to conventional or digital radiography in diagnosing periapical lesions.
