Vortex shedding behind an elastically mounted circular cylinder in the presence of group focused waves propagating upstream was investigated using a classical approach (time series and FFT) and nonclassical approach (complex 2D Morlet wavelets). Wavelet analysis emerged as a novel solution in this regard. Our results include wave trains with different nonlinearities propagating in different water depths and derived from three types of spectra (Pierson–Moskowitz, JONSWAP (γ = 3.3 or γ = 7)). It was found that the generated wave trains could modify regimes of shedding behind the cylinder, and subharmonic frequency lock-in could arise in particular situations. The occurrence of a lock-in regime in the case of wave trains propagating in intermediate water locations was shown experimentally even for small nonlinearities. Moreover, the application of time-localized wavelet analysis was found to be a powerful approach. In fact, the frequency lock-in regime and its duration could be readily identified from the wavelet-based energy and its corresponding ridges.

A novel collision avoidance (CA) algorithm was proposed based on the modified artificial potential field (APF) method, to construct a practical ship automatic CA system. Considering the constraints of both the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS) and the motion characteristics of the ship, the multi-ship CA algorithm was realized by modifying the repulsive force model in the APF method. Furthermore, the distance from the closest point of approach-time to the closest point of approach (DCPA-TCPA) criterion was selected as the unique adjustable parameter from the perspective of navigation practice. Collaborative CA experiments were designed and conducted to validate the proposed algorithm. The results of the experiments revealed that the actual DCPA and TCPA agree well with the parameter setup that keeps the ship at a safe distance from other ships in complex encountering situations. Consequently, the algorithm proposed in this study can achieve efficient automatic CA with minimal parameter settings. Moreover, the navigators can easily accept and comprehend the adjustable parameters, enabling the algorithm to satisfy the demand of the engineering applications.

Abstract We evaluate the impact of government mandated proof of vaccination requirements for access to public venues and non-essential businesses on COVID-19 vaccine uptake. We find that the announcement of a mandate is associated with a rapid and significant surge in new vaccinations (more than 60% increase in weekly first doses) using the variation in the timing of these measures across Canadian provinces in a difference-in-differences approach. Time-series analysis for each province and for France, Italy and Germany corroborates this finding, and we estimate cumulative gains of up to 5 percentage points in provincial vaccination rates and 790,000 or more first doses for Canada as a whole as of October 31, 2021 (5 to 13 weeks after the provincial mandate announcements). We also find large vaccination gains in France (3 to 5 mln first doses), Italy (around 6 mln) and Germany (around 3.5 mln) 11 to 16 weeks after the proof of vaccination mandate announcements.JEL codes: I18, I12, C23

Abstract Stellar streams are excellent probes of the underlying gravitational potential in which they evolve. In this work, we fit dynamical models to five streams in the Southern Galactic hemisphere, combining observations from the Southern Stellar Stream Spectroscopic Survey (S 5), Gaia EDR3, and the Dark Energy Survey, to measure the mass of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). With an ensemble of streams, we find a mass of the LMC ranging from ∼14–19 × 1010 M ⊙, probed over a range of closest approach times and distances. With the most constraining stream (Orphan–Chenab), we measure an LMC mass of 18.8 − 4.0 + 3.5 × 10 10 M ⊙ , probed at a closest approach time of 310 Myr and a closest approach distance of 25.4 kpc. This mass is compatible with previous measurements, showing that a consistent picture is emerging of the LMC’s influence on structures in the Milky Way. Using this sample of streams, we find that the LMC’s effect depends on the relative orientation of the stream and LMC at their point of closest approach. To better understand this, we present a simple model based on the impulse approximation and we show that the LMC’s effect depends both on the magnitude of the velocity kick imparted to the stream and the direction of this kick.

Bronchial asthma may be caused by exposure to multiple irritants and pollutants which include: pollen, dust mites, mold spores, pet dander, smoke, respiratory allergens.Treatment for bronchial asthma patients along with the medication for relieving the symptoms of asthma. Various alternative therapies alleviating the rate of wheezing, aiming to minimize asthma triggers. Aim: The study aim is to assess the effectiveness of selected relaxation technique on the breathing outcome among patients diagnosed with bronchial asthma. Methodology: It is an interventional evaluatory approach; time-series design will be used to conduct the bronchial asthma patients. A Non-Probability purposive sampling technique will be used to select the samples. This research study included 40 patients of AVBRH Rural hospital Sawangi (M) Wardha. Patients must select according to requirements for inclusion and exclusion criteria. The pretest-posttest will be taken with the assessment of peak expiratory flow rate, breath-holding time, and frequency of using the inhaler. After that, statistical and inferential analysis will be done. Expected Results: Outcome includes the selected relaxation technique on the bronchial asthma patients that are effective for relieving the symptoms and frequency of medication. Both relaxation method which is most effective for the bronchial asthma patients that are going to assess with the sample. Conclusion: The conclusion will be drawn from the statistical analysis.

Somatic copy number variations (CNV; i.e., amplifications and deletions) have been implicated in the origin and development of multiple cancers and some of these aberrations are designated targets for therapies. Although FISH is still considered the gold standard for CNV detection, the increasing number of potentially druggable amplifications to be assessed makes a gene-by-gene approach time- and tissue-consuming. Here we investigated the potential of next generation sequencing (NGS) custom panels to simultaneously determine CNVs across FFPE solid tumor samples. DNA was purified from cell lines and FFPE samples and analyzed by NGS sequencing using a 20-gene custom panel in the GeneReader Platform®. CNVs were identified using an in-house algorithm based on the UMI read coverage. Retrospective validation of in-house algorithm to identify CNVs showed 97.1% concordance rate with the NGS custom panel. The prospective analysis was performed in a cohort of 243 FFPE samples from patients arriving at our hospital, which included 74 NSCLC tumors, 148 CRC tumors, and 21 other tumors. Of them, 33% presented CNVs by NGS and in 14 cases (5.9%) the CNV was the only alteration detected. We have identified CNV alterations in about one-third of our cohort, including FGFR1, CDK6, CDK4, EGFR, MET, ERBB2, BRAF, or KRAS. Our work highlights the need to include CNV testing as a part of routine NGS analysis in order to uncover clinically relevant gene amplifications that can guide the selection of therapies.

Abstract The aim of this study was to directly compare the prognostic value of cumulative scores and composite ratios in patients with operable rectal cancer. Within a single surgical unit preoperative differential blood cell results including neutrophil (N), lymphocyte (L), monocyte (M) and platelet (P) counts, as well as CRP (C) and albumin (A) levels were recorded. These results were used to construct a series of composite ratios (NLR, PLR, LMR, CAR) and cumulative scores (NLS, PLS, LMS, NPS, mGPS). The relationship between composite ratios and the cumulative scores and clinicopathological characteristics, cancer specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS) were examined. A total of 413 patients were included. When adjusted for TNM stage, surgical approach, time of surgery and margin involvement mGPS (p < 0.05) was associated with CSS. In addition, most composite ratios/scores showed correlations with neoadjuvant therapy (p < 0.001). When a direct comparison between NPS (myeloid) and mGPS (liver) was carried out they showed similar associations with both CSS and OS. Therefore, both composite ratios and cumulative scores have been shown to be prognostic in patients with operable rectal cancer.
