The Lebanese lands, which hosted many different ethnic and religious identities under the Ottoman Empire's rule, could not bring together the plural and distinctive differences within it on common ground. The most crucial factor for the lack of common ground is the Mutasarrifate system established with the interference of France and other European states under the Ottoman rule in the country. The Mutasarrifate system's institutionalization and the building of administrative changes on this system in Lebanon's historical breaking moments brought the fragmented structure to the present day. As a result, this political system based on ethnic and religious differences prevented a Lebanese state citizen identity based on common rights and responsibilities. In the continuation and afterward of the demonstrations that started right after the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri in Lebanon in 2005, a broad social consensus ground could not be established. Considered as the reflection of color revolutions in the Middle East, the Cedar Revolution could not produce more democratic and inclusive results as claimed.

With the policy of Reform and Opening and the rapid development of the socio-economic level, China has transformed from a migrant-sending country to an immigrant-receiving country. In recent years, intermarriages between men living on the southwestern border of China and women from Vietnam have increased. The increase of emigrating female workers from rural to urban areas, the ever-increasing bride prices and the expansion of the marriage circle in rural societies have increased the imbalance of gender ratio in the border areas of China. Vietnamese women get married with Chinese men through illegal means in southwestern China and then settle in China, because of factors such as similar cultural traditions and living habits, hopes for better living conditions, and economic interests. These intermarriages sometimes lead to negative effects in China's southwestern border. This article is based on the investigation and evaluation of researches that are from Chinese academic community on Vietnamese women in transnational marriages on the southwestern border of China. It aims to explain the social background of these international marriages, explore the influence of these transnational marriages on the social governance in border areas. It also aims to establish a good transnational marriage mechanism, discuss the problems caused by such transnational marriages, and try to put forward some targeted suggestions and measures from the perspective of social management.

John-Paul Ghobrial’in Fısıldaşan Şehirler: 17. Eser, The Whispers of Cities: Information Flows in Istanbul, London, and Paris in the Age of William Trumbull adıyla 2013 yılında İngilizce olarak yayımlanmış ve 2020 yılında çevirisi yayımlanarak Türkçe literatüre kazandırılmıştır.

This study analyzes why and for which countries the Turkish Foreign Ministry uses the word kardeş (brother) in its discourse, particularly during the AK Party (Justice and Development Party) era. The study reveals that if a country is Muslim or ethnically Turkic, it is called a brother country. Besides states, Muslim or Turkic minorities in other countries are included in the brotherhood category. On the other hand, non-Turkic and non-Muslim countries are described as a friend, an ally, or strategic partners. However, being a brother does not mean that Turkey has the best relations with a country. On the contrary, Turkey has better relations with non-brother countries as well. Yet, being a brother state means probable privileged status in relations. Besides elucidating the discourse in Turkish foreign policy, this study also tries to counter realist ideas that friendship is not possible in the world order, which is supposed to be anarchical. Besides literature review, interviews were made to write the article.

Although Istanbul is the heart of the Ottoman press, İzmir is an important city for the Ottoman society to meet the "newspaper" phenomenon. The Turkish press in İzmir, where the press in foreign languages developed, started with the Aydın newspaper published in 1869. Aydın newspaper, which has the status of an official newspaper, was followed by the Devir newspaper published in 1872. The third Turkish newspaper published in İzmir, after Aydın and Devir newspapers is İntibah. Limited information is available about this newspaper, as no copies of it have survived. İntibah newspaper ordered new typeface and tools in order to eliminate the printing errors it experienced due to the typeface. In order not to leave the readers without a newspaper in the required time for the ordered material to reach İzmir, it decides to publish a copy named İlâve-i İntibah, printed with lithography. However, this initiative is not accepted by the official authorities. This study focuses on the copy named İlâve-i İntibah published by İntibah newspaper. The study aims to reveal that the İlâve-i İntibah copy is a humor magazine in terms of content and within this context, İzmir is the second Turkish humor magazine published after Kara Sinan, the first Turkish humor magazine. It is thought that the study will make a significant contribution to the literature on Turkish Press History, especially İzmir Press History.

It has been a general assumption that leaders have played a vital role in the making of Egypt's foreign policy. This article tries to detail this assumption and illustrates that individual formulation and implementation of foreign policies following the Free Officers' coup d'etat of 1952 and the Egyptian revolution of 2011 cannot be sufficiently clarified in the absence of domestic level explanations. What is found in this study is that various domestic factors paved the way for Nasser to increase his effectiveness on Egypt's foreign policy, whereas they created a compelling environment for Morsi in which he had a lesser influence on its foreign policy during his short tenure.
