Abstract The feasibility of low-ohmic FIB contacts to silicon with a localized silicidation was presented at ISTFA 2004 [1]. We have systematically explored options in contacting diffusions with FIB metal depositions directly. A demonstration of a 200nm x 200nm contact on source/drain diffusion level is given. The remaining article focuses on the properties of FIB deposited contacts on differently doped n-type Silicon. After the ion beam assisted platinum deposition a silicide was formed using a forming current in two configurations. The electrical properties of the contacts are compared to furnace anneal standards. Parameters of Schottky-barriers and thermal effects of the formation current are studied with numerical simulation. TEM images and material analysis of the low ohmic contacts show a Pt-silicide formed on a silicon surface with no visible defects. The findings indicate which process parameters need a more detailed investigation in order to establish values for a practical process.

Friction Stir Spot Welding (FSSW) is assumed as an environment-friendly technique, suitable for the spot welding of several materials. Nevertheless, it is consensual that the temperature control during the process is not feasible, since the exact heat generation mechanisms are still unknown. In current work, the heat generation in FSSW of aluminium alloys, was assessed by producing bead-on-plate spot welds using pinless tools. Coated and uncoated tools, with varied diameters and rotational speeds, were tested. Heat treatable (AA2017, AA6082 and AA7075) and non-heat treatable (AA5083) aluminium alloys were welded to assess any possible influence of the base material properties on heat generation. A parametric analysis enabled to establish a relationship between the process parameters and the heat generation. It was found that for rotational speeds higher than 600 rpm, the main process parameter governing the heat generation is the tool diameter. For each tool diameter, a threshold in the welding temperature was identified, which is independent of the rotational speed and of the aluminium alloy being welded. It is demonstrated that, for aluminium alloys, the temperature in FSSW may be controlled using a suitable combination of rotational speed and tool dimensions. The temperature evolution with process parameters was modelled and the model predictions were found to fit satisfactorily the experimental results.

Coalbed water injection is the most basic and effective dust-proof technology in the coal mining face. To understand the influence of coalbed water injection process parameters and coalbed characteristic parameters on coal wetting radius, this paper uses Fluent computational fluid dynamics software to systematically study the seepage process of coalbed water injection under different process parameters and coalbed characteristic parameters, calculation results of which are applied to engineering practice. The results show that the numerical simulation can help to predict the wetness range of coalbed water injection, and the results can provide guidance for the onsite design of coalbed water injection process parameters. The effect of dust reduction applied to onsite coalbed water injection is significant, with the average dust reduction rates during coal cutting and support moving being 67.85% and 46.07%, respectively, which effectively reduces the dust concentration on the working face and improves the working environment.

The paper presents the results of physical modelling of the plastic deformation of the Mg/Al bimetallic specimens using the Gleeble 3800 simulator. The plastic deformation of Mg/Al bimetal specimens characterized by the diameter to thickness ratio equal to 1 was tested in compression tests. The aim of this work was determination of the range of parameters as temperature and strain rate that mainly influence on the plastic deformation of Mg/Al bars during metal forming processes. The tests were carried out for temperature range from 300 to 400°C for different strain rate values. The stock was round 22.5 mm-diameter with an Al layer share of 28% Mg/Al bars that had been produced using the explosive welding method. Based on the analysis of the obtained testing results it has been found that one of the main process parameters influencing the plastic deformation the bimetal components is the initial stock temperature and strain rate values.

Due to the length of the mill, accurate modelling of stationary solution of continuous cold roll forming by the finite element method using the classical Lagrangian formulation usually requires a very large mesh leading to huge CPU times. In order to model industrial forming lines including many tools in a reasonable time, the sheet has to be shortened or the element size has to be increased leading to inaccurate results. On top of this, applying loads and boundary conditions on this smaller sheet is usually more difficult than in the continuous case. Moreover, transient dynamic vibrations, which are unnecessarily computed, may appear when the sheet hits each tool, decreasing the convergence rate of the numerical simulation. Beside this classical Lagrangian approach, an alternative method is given by the Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) formalism which consists in decoupling the motion of the material and the mesh. Starting from an initial guess of the sheet geometry between the rolls, the numerical simulation is performed until the stationary state is reached with a mesh, the nodes of which are fixed in the rolling direction but are free to move on perpendicular plane, following the geometrical boundary of the sheet. The whole forming line can then be modelled using a limited number of brick and contact elements because the mesh is only refined near the tools where bending and contact occur. In this paper, ALE results are compared to previous Lagrangian simulations and experimental measurement on a U-channel, including springback. Advantages of the ALE method are finally demonstrated by the simulation of a tubular rocker panel on a 16-stands forming mill.

Warpage is a crucial factor to accuracy of sintering part in selective laser sintering (SLS) process. In this paper, The influence of process parameters on warpage when sintering polystyrene(PS) materials in SLS are investigated. The laser power, scanning speed, hatch spacing, layer thickness as well as temperature of powder are considered as the main process parameters. The results showed that warpage increases with the increase of hatch space. Contary to it, warpage decreases with the increase of laser power. Warpage decreases with the increase of layer thickness between 0.16~0.18mm and changes little with increase of the thickness. Warpage increases along with the increase of scanning speed but decreases when the speed is over about 2000mm/s. When the temperature changes between 82°C-86°C, warpage decreases little with the increase of temperature. But further increase of temperature leads to warpage decreasing sharply when the temperature changes between 86°C-90°C.

In the internal thread extrusion forming, if the process parameters are not selected properly, the extrusion torque will increase, the extrusion temperature will be too high, or even the tap will break. In order to obtain effective process parameters under certain working conditions, this paper uses a combination of numerical simulation and process experiment to analyze the influence of the bottom hole diameter, extrusion speed, and friction factor on the extrusion torque and extrusion temperature. Through an orthogonal experiment, the significant influence law of different process parameters on the extrusion torque and extrusion temperature was studied, and the order of their influence was determined. Based on the optimal process parameters, numerical simulations and process tests were carried out, and the extrusion effect and related parameters were compared and analyzed. The results show that the extruded thread has clear contour, uniform tooth pitch, complete tooth shape, and good flatness. Compared with before optimization, the maximum extrusion torque has been reduced by 37.15%, the maximum temperature has been reduced by 29.72%, and the extrusion quality has been improved. It shows that the optimized method and optimized process parameters have good engineering practicability.

The hydroforming process of the aluminum alloy panel was simulated by the software DYNAFORM. The effects of process parameters (blank holder force, depth of panel and height of draw bead) on springback of the aluminum alloy were investigated. The max springback of the panel was analyzed by weighted scoring method. Then the process parameters were synthetically optimized for the max positive and negative springback. The results showed that the height of draw bead affects obviously the comprehensive springback of the panel. The optimization of the process parameters obtained by the orthogonal experiment can effectively reduce the max springback of the panel.
