Background: The media have a powerful influence on those at risk of suicide. Evidence linking sensational media reporting with imitative suicidal behavior continues to grow, prompting the widespread development of guidelines for media professionals on the reporting of suicide. While such guidelines have been widely implemented, only a small amount of research has addressed their use and effectiveness. Aims: To conduct a systematic literature review aimed at critically evaluating the evidence concerning the use and effectiveness of media guidelines for reporting on suicide. Methods: All research publications that addressed the effectiveness of media guidelines against a variety of outcome measures were examined. Results: The findings highlight cases in which guideline implementation has successfully mitigated imitative suicides. Significant variability in the effect of guidelines on the quality of suicide reporting was observed between studies, and research suggests journalist awareness, use, and opinion of guidelines is generally low. The critical positive effects of media collaboration and training on reporting are noted. Conclusions: Overall, the findings of this review suggest that the guidelines can change reporting style and prevent imitative suicide, but that approaches centered on consultation, collaboration, media ownership, and training are likely to achieve the greatest success.

Computerized auditory training (CAT) is a convenient, low-cost approach to improving communication of individuals with hearing loss or other communicative disorders. A number of CAT programs are being marketed to patients and audiologists. The present literature review is an examination of evidence for the effectiveness of CAT in improving speech perception in adults with hearing impairments. Six current CAT programs, used in 9 published studies, were reviewed. In all 9 studies, some benefit of CAT for speech perception was demonstrated. Although these results are encouraging, the overall quality of available evidence remains low, and many programs currently on the market have not yet been evaluated. Thus, caution is needed when selecting CAT programs for specific patients. It is hoped that future researchers will (a) examine a greater number of CAT programs using more rigorous experimental designs, (b) determine which program features and training regimens are most effective, and (c) indicate which patients may benefit from CAT the most.

After government control over the media was liberalized in 1998, Indonesian journalists had a new mandate to explore new issues and foster public debate. Several studies had found evidence that women’s health worsened from 1997–99, yet media coverage of this topic was limited. To increase press coverage of reproductive health (RH) topics, the Population Council conducted an 18-month media project in collaboration with the State Ministry for Women’s Empowerment and other key agencies. The project focused on improving RH knowledge and reporting skills among 22 print journalists. Project staff monitored RH coverage in 22 major newspapers, magazines, and tabloids. After Indonesian journalists received background information and training on RH issues, the quality of their coverage improved. However, as noted in this brief, continued efforts are needed to provide media representatives with ideas for news stories and feature articles and training in use of research findings.

UNSTRUCTURED Intro and Objective: In the presence of COVID-19, telemedicine is being utilized to limit person-to-person spread while increasing healthcare access. While telemedicine use is increasing, a mismatch exists with the amount of training to deliver care. For this, the American Medical Association has called for an increase in formalized training for telemedicine. This literature review provides recent examples of telemedicine education techniques to provide guidance for telemedicine training in this time of immediate need. Methods: The authors conducted a literature review by searching the PubMed (MEDLINE) database for publications pertaining to telemedicine education and training. After review, 12 pieces of literature were analyzed for methods and skills taught in telemedicine, means to assess competency, and future directions. Results: This study identified a broad scope of skills to be taught from orientation to technology, to patient interaction methods, as well as the current medico-legal guidelines. Using standardized assessments and being supervised by trained physicians, there is a role of telemedicine incorporation into formal curricula. As the field of telemedicine continues to adapt, so should the mechanisms by which training is delivered. Conclusions/Discussion: While accepted that telemedicine provides access to care, especially in the time of COVID-19, this is not synonymous with quality of care if telemedicine training is lacking. The results of this work provide many current examples of telemedicine teaching to be incorporated across all healthcare disciplines. With this, we emphasize the need for growth in the area of telemedicine education and published data in the field.

This article examines media ownership transparency through the lens of European human rights policy and evaluates media ownership transparency in over 30 European countries based on data returned to the Media Pluralism Monitor. Using these data, we examine the existence and quality of two types of disclosure, ‘upwards’, to public bodies and ‘downwards’, directly to the public, enabling both the monitory and informational functions of ownership transparency to be fulfilled. We conclude that regulation is patchy and variable across Europe and that a coordinated, multi-actor approach is necessary to give effect to internationally recognized standards in the field.

UNSTRUCTURED The use of mobile health (mHealth) interventions for improving quality of life (QoL) is increasing. There is a clear surge in the number of mHealth interventions for cancer patients, but the related research findings are fragmented. There is an urgent need to amalgamate the extant findings, particularly those related to reviews of the effects of mHealth interventions on cancer awareness and screening. The current study systematically review the available literature on mHealth interventions for cancer patients and survivors with a view to synthesizing the outcomes and the effects of these interventions on disease management: from awareness to survival. The study utilizes systematic literature review (SLR) and examined of 57 published studies (number of participants = 112,196) that described mHealth interventions for various types of cancer. Most of the studies found that mHealth interventions had positive effects on cancer survivors, caregiver teams, and family members. Several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) suggested that mHealth provides person-centered care in the clinical management of cancer and improves survivorship care. The SLR findings suggest that mHealth interventions should be based on theory and defined frameworks.

Leite. Instruções Normativas.   Abstract The objective of this study was conducting a literature review on the raw milk quality produced between 2000 and 2020 and relate these results to the  Normative Instructions requirements that regulate the identity criteria and quality of this type of milk, in addition to discussing the possible trends regarding milk activity. The results indicate that there is still no uniformity in the  raw milk quality after almost 20 years of regulations. The quality improvement related to the data from scientific publications is also not clear, being concentrated in Minas Gerais, Goiás and Paraná and without occurrence in the states of the northern region. There is a certain difficulty for the  producers meeting the requirements, especially when they have become more stringent, with the publication of new limits. Without incentives and training, this activity is likely to be carried out more and more by large producers, with a high number of animals and high productivity.   Keywords: Legislation. Milk. Normative Instructions.
