AbstractThis study presents a systematic review and meta-analysis over the findings of significance of correlations between weather parameters (temperature, humidity, rainfall, ultra violet radiation, wind speed) and COVID-19. The meta-analysis was performed by using ‘meta’ package in R studio. We found significant correlation between temperature (0.11 [95% CI 0.01–0.22], 0.22 [95% CI, 0.16–0.28] for fixed effect death rate and incidence, respectively), humidity (0.14 [95% CI 0.07–0.20] for fixed effect incidence) and wind speed (0.58 [95% CI 0.49–0.66] for fixed effect incidence) with the death rate and incidence of COVID-19 (p < 0.01). The study included 11 articles that carried extensive research work on more than 110 country-wise data set. Thus, we can show that weather can be considered as an important element regarding the correlation with COVID-19.

Abstract Background Endometriosis is one of the most common causes of infertility. The causes of the disease and its definitive treatments are still unclear. Moreover, Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) is a glycoprotein dimer that is a member of the transient growth factors family. This research work aimed to identify the effect of unilateral and bilateral laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis on AMH levels after 3 months, and 6 months, using meta-analysis. Methods In this study, the articles published in national and international databases of SID, MagIran, IranMedex, IranDoc, Cochrane, Embase, Science Direct, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science (ISI) were searched to find electronically published studies between 2010 and 2019. The heterogeneous index between studies was determined using the I2 index. Results In this meta-analysis and systematic review, 19 articles were eligible for inclusion in the study. The standardized mean difference was obtained in examining of unilateral laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis (before intervention 2.8 ± 0.11, and after 3 months 2.05 ± 0.13; and before intervention 3.1 ± 0.46 and after 6 months 2.08 ± 0.31), and in examining bilateral laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis examination (before intervention 2.0 ± 08.08, and after 3 months 1.1 ± 0.1; and before intervention 2.9 ± 0.23 and after 6 months 1.4 ± 0.19). Conclusion The results of this study demonstrate that unilateral and bilateral laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis is effective on AMH levels, and the level decreases in both comparisons.

Abstract Background Stress, anxiety, and depression are some of the most important research and practice challenges for psychologists, psychiatrists, and behavioral scientists. Due to the importance of issue and the lack of general statistics on these disorders among the Hospital staff treating the COVID-19 patients, this study aims to systematically review and determine the prevalence of stress, anxiety and depression within front-line healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients. Methods In this research work, the systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression approaches are used to approximate the prevalence of stress, anxiety and depression within front-line healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients. The keywords of prevalence, anxiety, stress, depression, psychopathy, mental illness, mental disorder, doctor, physician, nurse, hospital staff, 2019-nCoV, COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2 and Coronaviruses were used for searching the SID, MagIran, IranMedex, IranDoc, ScienceDirect, Embase, Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science (ISI) and Google Scholar databases. The search process was conducted in December 2019 to June 2020. In order to amalgamate and analyze the reported results within the collected studies, the random effects model is used. The heterogeneity of the studies is assessed using the I2 index. Lastly, the data analysis is performed within the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. Results Of the 29 studies with a total sample size of 22,380, 21 papers have reported the prevalence of depression, 23 have reported the prevalence of anxiety, and 9 studies have reported the prevalence of stress. The prevalence of depression is 24.3% (18% CI 18.2–31.6%), the prevalence of anxiety is 25.8% (95% CI 20.5–31.9%), and the prevalence of stress is 45% (95% CI 24.3–67.5%) among the hospitals’ Hospital staff caring for the COVID-19 patients. According to the results of meta-regression analysis, with increasing the sample size, the prevalence of depression and anxiety decreased, and this was statistically significant (P < 0.05), however, the prevalence of stress increased with increasing the sample size, yet this was not statistically significant (P = 0.829). Conclusion The results of this study clearly demonstrate that the prevalence of stress, anxiety and depression within front-line healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients is high. Therefore, the health policy-makers should take measures to control and prevent mental disorders in the Hospital staff.

The aim of this work was to systematically review and Meta-analyze the researches done on extra pharmacopoeial drugs (anukta dravyas) belonging to Terminalia genus. Terminalia is the second largest genus of family Combrataceae. Plants of the genus Terminalia are amongst the most widely used plants for traditional medicinal purposes worldwide. Many species are used for their antibacterial, antifungal, antiprotozoal, antiviral, antidiarrhoeal, analgesic, antimalarial, anti oxidant, anti inflammatory and anticancer activities. Indeed, the Indian species Terminalia chebula is known as the king of plants in Ayurveda due to its broad range of medicinal uses. However, apart from the reported ethnopharmacological uses of many Terminalia species, surprisingly few studies have rigorously examined this important genus for their medical properties/mechanisms. The last decade has seen a large increase in the number of studies into the use of Terminalia species as therapeutic agents. Data collected till 2018, showed around 120 different databases, articles and researches done on medicinal properties of plants belonging to Terminalia species. It was observed that out of the 250 species of Terminalia genus, research work of 80 plants was done which claimed their potential as medicines.

ABSTRACT Background The reward value of palatable foods is often cited as an important influence on eating behaviors, including intake of sugars. However, human neuroimaging studies have generated conflicting evidence on the basic neural representation of taste and reward responses to caloric sweeteners (sucrose and glucose), and most relevant studies have used small subject numbers. Objective We conducted a systematic review and a coordinate-based meta-analysis of studies reporting brain responses to oral sugar solutions. Methods A systematic search of MEDLINE, Scopus, and PsycINFO through October 2019 identified fMRI studies (in healthy human adults, including those with overweight or obesity) assessing differences in responses to purified sweet and nonsweet taste stimuli. Data were extracted with the primary objective of quantifying evidence for the activation of brain regions associated with caloric sweet taste sensation. We used activation likelihood estimation meta-analysis methods. We also performed multiple sensitivity analyses to assess the generality of effects. Results Of 455 unique articles, 15 met the criteria for inclusion. These contributed to 2 primary meta-analyses: 1) sucrose (13 experiments, 179 coordinates, n = 241) and 2) sucrose + glucose (16 experiments, 209 coordinates, n = 262). Consistent activation was apparent in primary taste areas: insula (69.2% of studies) and opercular cortex (76.9% of studies), precentral gyri (53.9% of studies), and globus pallidus and postcentral gyrus (30.8% of studies for each). Evidence of reward activity (caudate) was seen in the primary analyses (30.8% of studies) but not in sensitivity analysis. Conclusions We confirm the importance of primary taste areas for gustatory processing in human adults. We also provide tentative evidence for reward-related caudate activity in relation to the sweet taste of caloric sugars. A number of factors affect the observation and interpretation of brain responses, including reward-related activity. Firm conclusions require confirmation with large data set studies.

Background To summarize the current evidence on the effects of intra-arterial chemotherapy (IAC) on high-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and compare oncology results with intravesical chemotherapy (IVC). Methods We performed a systematic review and cumulative meta-analysis of the primary outcomes of interest by a systematical search of multiple scientific databases in February 2021. The mean difference (MD) and odds ratio (OR) were calculated for continuous and dichotomous variables respectively, with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The hazard radio (HR) with 95% CIs was used for overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Results A total of six studies with 866 patients were included. For IAC combined with IVC versus IVC alone, statistically significant differences were found regarding tumor recurrence rate (OR: 0.51, 95% CI [0.36∼0.72], p = 0.0001), tumor progression rate (OR: 0.47, 95% CI [0.30∼0.72], p = 0.0006), tumor-specific death rate (OR: 0.49, 95% CI [0.25∼0.99], p = 0.05), PFS (HR: 0.47, 95% CI [0.23∼0.96], p = 0.04) and RFS (HR: 0.60, 95% CI [0.41∼0.87], p = 0.007). No significant difference between two groups was found for time to first recurrence (MD: 3.27, 95% CI [−2.37∼8.92], p = 0.26) and OS (HR: 1.20, 95% CI [0.44∼3.32], p = 0.72). For IAC alone versus IVC, There was no statistical difference in the terms of tumor-specific death rate (OR: 0.67, 95% CI [0.29∼1.53], p = 0.34), RFS (HR: 0.90, 95% CI [0.56∼1.46], p = 0.68) and PFS (HR: 0.71, 95% CI [0.32∼1.55], p = 0.39). Adverse events mainly included nausea/vomiting (36.3%), hypoleukemia (19.4%), neutropenia (16.0%), increased creatinine (9.9%), increased alanine aminotransferase (18.7%), and thrombocytopenia (9.9%). Conclusion The IAC combined with IVC is a safe and effective treatment for high risk NMIBC, with lower rates of recurrence, progression, tumor-specific death, PFS and RFS, and with minor and tolerable events. The effectiveness of the IAC alone is parallel to the IVC alone.

Abstract Limits on the use and efficacy of various antibiotics coupled with negative consumer perception of the practice have together spurred substantial research into compounds that could reduce the use antibiotics to control bacterial diseases in pigs. Bacteriophages are often among such potential compounds, and various groups have examined the efficacy of bacteriophages or bacteriophage products in limiting transmission or colonization of targeted bacteria. The study presented here provides a systematic review of such studies followed by a meta-analysis of aggregated data produced by each study. The data set was limited to inputs (n = 19; 576 total observations) from studies where: 1) live pigs were inoculated with a known quantity of challenge bacteria; 2) challenged animals were treated with a known quantity of phages; 3) concentrations of the challenge bacteria were measured in different tissues/fluids following phage treatment; and 4) SD (or SE to allow calculation of SD) was reported. Concentrations of challenge bacteria were significantly lower in phage-treated pigs versus challenged but untreated pigs (P &lt; 0.0001; effect size = −1.06 1log10 colony-forming units [CFU]/g). The effect size of phage treatment was significantly greater (P &lt; 0.05) in samples collected 48 to 96 h following phage treatment versus those collected ≤ 24 h following phage treatment. Likewise, effect size of phage treatment was significantly greater in piglets versus market-weight pigs. Across observations, phage treatment effect sizes were greatest (P &lt; 0.01) in fecal samples versus ileal or cecal samples. Taken together, these data indicate that phage treatment can significantly reduce the concentrations of targeted bacteria in pigs; scenarios exist, however, where phage treatment could predictably be more or less effective.

OBJECTIVEGlioblastoma (GBM) and primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) are common intracranial pathologies encountered by neurosurgeons. They often may have similar radiological findings, making diagnosis difficult without surgical biopsy; however, management is quite different between these two entities. Recently, predictive analytics, including machine learning (ML), have garnered attention for their potential to aid in the diagnostic assessment of a variety of pathologies. Several ML algorithms have recently been designed to differentiate GBM from PCNSL radiologically with a high sensitivity and specificity. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the implementation of ML algorithms in differentiating GBM and PCNSL.METHODSThe authors performed a systematic review of the literature using PubMed in accordance with PRISMA guidelines to select and evaluate studies that included themes of ML and brain tumors. These studies were further narrowed down to focus on works published between January 2008 and May 2018 addressing the use of ML in training models to distinguish between GBM and PCNSL on radiological imaging. Outcomes assessed were test characteristics such as accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC).RESULTSEight studies were identified addressing use of ML in training classifiers to distinguish between GBM and PCNSL on radiological imaging. ML performed well with the lowest reported AUC being 0.878. In studies in which ML was directly compared with radiologists, ML performed better than or as well as the radiologists. However, when ML was applied to an external data set, it performed more poorly.CONCLUSIONSFew studies have applied ML to solve the problem of differentiating GBM from PCNSL using imaging alone. Of the currently published studies, ML algorithms have demonstrated promising results and certainly have the potential to aid radiologists with difficult cases, which could expedite the neurosurgical decision-making process. It is likely that ML algorithms will help to optimize neurosurgical patient outcomes as well as the cost-effectiveness of neurosurgical care if the problem of overfitting can be overcome.

Background Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is a common complication in patients with sepsis, and imposes a worse prognosis and challenging clinical management. Administration of antiarrhythmics is often needed, to achieve rate or rhythm control, especially in the occurrence of AF with rapid ventricular response; however, it is unclear whether different classes of antiarrhythmics are associated with better outcomes in patients with sepsis and AF. Methods We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis according to PRISMA Guidelines. Pubmed and EMBASE databases were systematically searched for studies reporting outcomes in patients with sepsis and AF, according to the use of Beta-blockers (BBs), calcium-channel blockers (CCBs), digoxin and amiodarone. Random-effect models were used to provide pooled estimates; fixed-effect models were also performed as a sensitivity analysis. Results Among 4,166 studies, 2 articles were included from the literature search, and an additional 1 from the author’s knowledge, yielding a total of 40,593 patients with sepsis and AF included. According to the data available from the included studies, the meta-analysis was performed only for in-hospital mortality. BBs were associated with a reduced risk of in-hospital mortality compared to amiodarone (OR 0.52, 95% CI: 0.46-0.58; I2 = 0%, Figure 1, Panel C), while no significant differences were observed for BBs. vs. CCBs (Figure 1, Panel A) and for BBs vs. digoxin (Figure 1, Panel B). In the pre-specified sensitivity analysis using a fixed-effect model, BBs resulted associated with a lower risk of in-hospital mortality compared with both CCBs and digoxin). Conclusion In patients with AF during sepsis, BBs were associated with reduced risk of in-hospital mortality, compared to amiodarone; inconclusive results emerged for the comparisons between BBs and CCBs or digoxin, although with a benefit of BBs observed in the fixed-effect models. Further studies are needed to provide definitive data and to guide physicians in the choice of the best rate control strategy in this clinical setting. Abstract Figure.

680 Background: To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the efficacy of adjuvant VEGFRi in locally advanced, non-metastatic clear renal-cell carcinoma (RCC). Methods:Several databases were searched, including MEDLINE, EMBASE, LILACS, and CENTRAL. We included studies that compared the addition of VEGFRi versus placebo, after nephrectomy. Analyzed endpoints were overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). The data extracted from the studies were combined by using Hazard Ratio (HR) or Risk Ratio (RR) with their corresponding Confidence Intervals of 95% (CI95%). Results: Overall, 121 references were identified and screened. The final analysis included 5 trials (S-TRAC, ATLAS, ASSURE, PROTECT and SORCE) comprising 6,128 patients that underwent previous nephrectomy for RCC. The DFS was similar in patients who received VEGFRi (fixed effect: HR=0.94, CI95%=0.87 to 1.03; p=0.19), with no heterogeneity (Chi2 = 4.33, df = 5 (P=0.50); I2 = 0%). Overall survival also was not statistically better in patients who received VEGFR inhibitors (HR=1.01, CI95%=0.90 to 1.15; p=0.84), with no heterogeneity (Chi2= 3.57, df = 5 (P=0.61); I2 = 0%). In the final combined analysis of the higher-risk disease group (pT3, pT4, or N+ disease), patients who received VEGFRi had a longer DFS (fixed effect: HR=0.85, CI95%=0.74 to 0.97; p=0.02), with no heterogeneity (Chi2 = 2.46, df = 3 (P=0.48); I2 = 0%). Overall survival was not statistically different for these higher-risk disease patients (fixed effect: HR=0.93, CI95%=0.74 to 1.16; p=0.5). Conclusions: This is the first meta-analysis including the five available RCTs in the literature (the previous meta-analysis reviewed only four), comparing adjuvant VEGFRi versus placebo in patients submitted to nephrectomy with a locally advanced, non-metastatic RCC. Adjuvant VEGFRi did not increase the OS in this group of patients. Amodest benefit of DFS with the use of adjuvant VEGFR inhibitors was restricted to patients with the highest risk of relapse.
