Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to suggest the application of systemic methodologies, such as Soft Systems Methodology (SSM), to develop sustainability strategies and solve problems involving the sustainability of organizations and their operations. The sustainability paradigm implies the need for changes in current production systems, societal organization and use of the natural resources that are essential to all life forms. Sustainability, as a new paradigm, modifies the way in which organizations operate to make companies responsible for sustainable development and ensure that resources are available for future generations. Sustainable development requires a broad new development strategy that encompasses political, economic, social, technological and environmental dimensions. Design/methodology/approach – As a method of analysis the research will use the application of SSM in a case study from the sugarcane industry. The basic scientific thought paradigm, inherited from Bacon and Descartes, no longer holds in modern society, which requires a new way of perceiving the world by following a systemic and integrated approach to address complex problems. Findings – This study advances the understanding of how the systemic approach can aid the development of corporate sustainability strategies. Originality/value – The basic pillar of the new sustainability paradigm is the systemic view. The systemic approach should guide the development of corporate strategies. This study followed a qualitative approach to better understand how organizations can use the systemic approach in the development of sustainability strategies.

Introduction. Modern society has long agreed that financial education is one of the pillars of its sustainable development. In many countries, action plans were prepared, strategies developed, training courses were aimed at increasing the level of financial education, but after a few years it is again clear that the problem has not been solved, there are very few examples of success and it is not known whether these successes are the result of the above measures. The need of change the strategies in place today in financial education is slowly emerging. There is an urgent task of improving the strategy of financial education at the present stage of development of society. Aim and tasks. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the current financial education strategy on the example of one particular country – Georgia, its logical consequences and find the levers that will make this strategy more effective or outline the contours of the new strategy. Comparison of the stated goals and actual results of the current strategies of financial education is carried out. The study is based on the analysis of the determinants of financial behavior of human, the main postulates of behavioral economics. The methods of logical generalization, synthesis, analysis and deduction are widely used in the research to reveal the cause-and-effect relationship between mental models of thinking, financial education and financial stability of the individual. Also examined the development policy measures adopted by the World Bank. An assessment of their relevance for improving financial education is carried out. The importance of considering mental models of thinking in achieving goals set in various spheres of society was noticed. Also, as a result of the analysis, new approaches were identified that improve the strategy of financial education. Conclusions. Strategies need to be developed based on the mental models of the population of a particular country taking into account the psychological aspects that are significant for the members of a given community. It is necessary to process the information provided by the population, not only semantically, but also etymologically, within the framework of the measures outlined in the strategy and use categories in the context to which the society is more sensitive. More successful examples of financial education development policies need to be considered.

Over the past two decades 'sustainable development' has grown from a term expressing concern for social and environmental problems to an international craze. The concept purportedly offers cures for the many and diverse problems afflicting modern society, and because it involves an integrated approach, the sustainable development fashion has resulted in much-needed collaboration between specialists from diverse backgrounds, to work on the complex problems involved in the interactions between society and environment. However, the term is rarely defined, and, being stylish and institutionalized, the 'sustainability movement' now directs the way much science and policy for biological conservation and development are designed, executed and evaluated. Occult, but basic, in nearly all discourses of sustainable development is the axiom of continual growth; and, in most cases, instead of offering a true solution to contemporary problems, the term is a source of confusion, contention and even deception. It is imperative that the use of this term, especially in multidisciplinary, international and scientific spheres, be based on clear understanding of its meaning, and that the issue of growth and the concept of limits be clearly incorporated into the core of the discussion.

This study focuses on enhancing the effectiveness of investment in construction given the constant threat of new risks. We investigate the types and causes of risks of firms working in the construction industry, draw conclusions about the importance of risks associated with the investment attractiveness of projects, as well as responsibility for the environmental safety. Urbanization and changes in the surrounding area are the dominant trend in the development of modern society. The constant demand of business for commercial real estate, as well as the increase in population growth demands enhanced effectiveness in the construction market, where supply in construction market depends on the economic conditions. The relevance of the research topic is due to the fact that the increasing capital flows in the construction industry pose new challenges for forecasting, statistics and risk control, and a focus on the rates of return mechanisms to hedge against the uncertainty of the future. The aim of the study is a systematic integrated approach to solving problems to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of investments and their protection using a methodological systematic approach, which considers the components of an integrated investment process. We propose a model of risk hedging management, and focus on an analytical methodology of the most relevant risks in modern construction.

The possibility of replacing the traditional components of the filling mass with man-made waste and the need for the use of mechanical activation of the components of the filling composite in order to improve its rheological characteristics and the strength of the mass after solidification are proved. The demand for resource-reproducing technologies that allow the most complete use of the industrial mineral resource potential of the mining and processing enterprise, which will lead to a multiplicative ecological and economic effect, is confirmed. It is necessary to introduce the re-processing of man-made waste in order to further extract the useful component to a level that meets the standards of environmental safety and economic feasibility, which would create conditions for the actual sustainable development and give some perspectives for extending the operating time of mining regions. It is established that the sustainable development of the mining and processing region is impossible without a highly efficient exploitation of natural deposits and man-made georesources in combination with an integrated approach to the development of subsurface resources.

The integration processes, taking place in modern society, impact the system of higher education. The united world educational environment is being formed, demonstrating the coordination of educational standards, programmes, approaches to the training of future specialists in higher educational institutions of various countries. The integration of the system of Ukrainian higher education into the world educational environment determines the growth of academic mobility of students, for which the USA higher education is famous about. The aim of the article is to study the organizational and aontent aspects of academic mobility of students in the USA higher education. Research methods applied: analysis and synthesis of psychological and pedagogical literature; study of experience of particular American universities in the context of academic mobility, systematization, and generalization. Internationalization has been defined as one of the most important principles of academic mobility organization in the USA. Internationalization is a process in which the goals, functions and organization of educational services acquire an international dimension. This process involves the integration of national education systems, defining and development of general and universal concepts and components of their functioning, i.e. those principles that form the basis of diversity of national cultures, contribute to their mutual enrichment and provide systemic changes in higher education. Academic mobility is a form of organization of the educational process (in particular, by distance learning means), which provides the opportunity to study, teach, train or carry out research in another educational institution, even abroad, resulting in self-realization in learning and professional activities. The temporary study in other institutions of higher education is a characteristic feature of academic mobility of students. The main goals of academic mobility of students in the USA are the acquisition of professional and intercultural competencies, cultural experience of the host country through training in academic mobility programmes, in summer and evening language schools, project implementation, and research.
