With the rapid economic growth and globalization, sustainability begins to play a more and more important role in the strategic management of a company. This paper explains what the sustainability competitive advantages are, and what factors are related to sustainability. It also briefly introduces the sustainable competitive advantages from institutional and resource-based views. In addition, this paper presents that sustainable competitive advantages largely depend on the company’s capability to manage the institutional context of resource decision. Sustainable competitive advantages are not only related to internal context, but also related to external environment. This paper explains the link of sustainable competitive advantages in the internal and external environment. In conclusion, it presents the necessary understanding for entrepreneurs to concentrate on factors which influence corporate sustainability beyond numbers in the financial analysis.

In today's highly competitive and fast paced world, it is important for a company to have a balanced strategy which is unified and precisely executed to gain a sustainable competitive advantage in order to outperform its rivals. The freedom of action of a company is limited to satisfying the needs of those entities outside the firm that give the resources it requires in order to survive and to be successful. The purpose of this research is to define and assess the resource optimization for sustainable competitive advantages and the direction of development, and potential improvements in a case company's Southern Finland residential project development division. The analysis of operational competitiveness focuses on detecting the right operational strategy and resource allocation by exploiting seven different kinds of methods and tools. The current operational model and resource allocation supports the operative strategy well in the case company and those resources which seem to be not optimally positioned are heading in the right direction.

The competitive advantages of the company’s are mainly determined by the performance. One important aspects of performance is financial aspects which are illustrated in financial statements. However, it is not enough to only assess the financial performance of companies. It required the analysis of financial statements to obtain the whole picture of company’s progress which is can be used by management or other users of financial statements to make decision making. The financial analysis in this research is used Z-Score to determine the company's financial performance more accurately and the health level of cigarettes companies in facing global competition and also dealing with the smoking ban regulations. The research was conducted on three tobacco companies that go public on the Stock Exchange Indonesia, that are PT Bentoel International Tbk., PT. Gudang Garam Tbk., PT. Hanjaya Mandala Sampoerna Tbk.  Z-Score results showed that PT Bentoel International Tbk in 2008 and 2009 had a poor financial performance and classified as highly vulnerable company, whereas in 2010 the company was in a good performance and healthy condition. Meanwhile, PT Gudang Garam Tbk from 2008, 2009 and 2010 is classified as healthy company. PT. Hanjaya Mandala Sampoerna Tbk has a good financial performance and categorized as healthy company began in 2008, 2009 to 2010. To conclude, among the three tobacco companies that go public on the Stock Exchange Indonesia, PT Hanjaya Mandala Sampoerna Tbk is a company that has the best financial performance and classified as a healthy company.

Pharmaceuticals agglomerations consistently use their brand image and versatile product portfolios to consolidate their position in the financial sector, which is evident in their continuous profit making and expansion in market share. This paper explores the short-term and long-term investment attractiveness through ‘consumer centric decision’ approach in two selected pharmaceutical companies, Renata Limited and Orion Pharma Limited, of Bangladesh over the last three years’ period. This research adopts a systematic approach which primarily addresses the various concerns of investors to illustrate the decision-making process of the existing and future investors. Using primarily domestic transaction data, this study explores how the leading pharmaceuticals companies of Bangladesh effectively use the wide array of drug portfolios mix with appropriate branding techniques to increase their financial profit and market share simultaneously. Both SWOT analysis and Porters Five Forces Model explore the business analysis of Renata Limited in compare to Orion Pharma Limited that provides a conclusion regarding investors’ decision to invest in Renata Limited. Considering the financial analysis, Renata’s financial liquidity is not very satisfactory and could have been improved further if management is prudent on financial strategy settings. Findings of the business analysis indicate that Renata Limited would be a good investment choice for existing and prospective shareholders based on its opportunities for long term and short term growth and further expansion in developing the market. The results suggest that even lower liquidity coupled with higher interest borrowings can be balanced by posing positive picture to the public shareholders by returning the positive dividend to them.

Nowadays, more fashion companies have started to adopt various sustainability practices and communicate these practices through their annual public CSR reports. In this study, we aim to provide a holistic perspective of fashion companies’ sustainable development and investigate the sustainability practices of global fashion companies. A total of 181 CSR reports from 29 fashion companies were collected. A Dictionary approach text classification method, combined with Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), a computer-assisted topic modeling algorithm, was implemented to detect and summarize the themes and keywords of detailed practices disclosed in CSR reports. The findings identified 12 main sustainability practices themes based on the triple bottom line theory and the moral responsibility of corporate sustainability theory. In general, waste management and human rights are the most frequently mentioned themes. The findings also suggest that global fashion companies adopted different sustainability strategies based on their product categories and competitive advantages.

The higher education sector faces considerable competition around the world. Accordingly, universities need to make more efforts to increase their competitive advantages. This study aimed to empirically investigate the effect of organizational innovation (OI), knowledge management (KM), and strategic human resource management (SHRM), with a dependent variable of sustainable competitive advantages (SCAs), at Jordanian Universities. For this aim, a specially designed questionnaire has been distributed to study a convenience sample of 400 academic and administrative staff at Jordanian private and public universities, to obtain the required quantitative data. The study’s hypotheses were verified by Baron and Kenny’s mediation regression approach using the software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The results of the study demonstrate that there is a significant positive relationship between the following pairs of variables: KM and SCA; SHRM and SCA; SHRM and OI; KM and OI; and OI and SCA, whereas OI was found to have a partial and indirect significant mediation impact on the direct relationship between KM and SHRM and universities (organizations) gaining SCAs. Finally, it was concluded that more attention needs to be paid to the OI aspect in organizations and to integrate it with KM and SHRM in a way that promotes SCAs. In addition, we propose that similar studies should be conducted in industries other than education or the education sector in different countries in a way that obtains generalized and representative results.

To find out the performance of a company it is necessary to have a financial analysis, where in analyzing the financial statements will get a view of the good and bad financial performance. For this reason, this study aims to analyze the effect of the Liquidity Ratio, Solvency Ratio, Profitability Ratio, and Activity Ratio on profit growth with company size as a moderating variable. The population in this study was all trade retail companies that listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange in the period 2015-2018. The research samples was determined by using purposive sampling technique, so that obtained 21 trade retail companies that quality as the sample. The analysis technique used is moderation regression analysis. Based on the research result showed that Solvability, Profitability and Activity ratios has an effect on profit growth and company size is a moderation variabel. Liquidity Ratio has no effect on profit growth and company size not a moderating variable between Liquidity on profit growth.

Over the years, scholars have verified that corporate social responsibility activities can bring sustainable competitive advantages to enterprise, but few have studied how to apply the corporate social responsibility theoretical framework to corporate activities. This paper selects G company, a listed company in China, as the case. It is an excellent company rated as “five-star social responsibility fulfillment enterprise” by CFIE (China Federation of Industrial Economics) from 2014 to 2017, we explore the way of combining social responsibility activities with corporate strategy, so as to provide experience and reference for other companies in fulfilling social responsibility continuously. We found that G company took the R&D of green silicone material products as the main driving force to fulfill its social responsibility, and closely combines its core business activities with social responsibility activities, runs the concept of social responsibility through the whole process of production and operation, and strives to build a social responsibility management mechanism with the characteristics of company, thus bringing sustainable competitive advantages of enterprise.

Introduction. Ensuring the sustainable development of domestic agricultural producers involves achieving and maintaining a sufficient level of economic efficiency and competitiveness for the implementation of expanded reproduction. This, first of all, implies the formation of an appropriate level of competitiveness through the creation of sustainable competitive advantages of products and manufacturers. This process is impossible without attracting investment resources and introducing innovations in order to create competitive advantages, strengthen market positions and increase the level of concentration of productive capital. The latter necessitates a comprehensive strategic planning, which would be based on the innovative orientation of investment activities. The purpose of the article is to form theoretical and methodological and applied principles of competitive strategies formation of innovation and investment development of agricultural production entities. Method (methodology). Methods of comparison, analysis, theoretical and logical generalization are applied in the course of research. The dialectical method of research became the methodological basis. Results. The author’s vision of the definition of “competitive strategy” is offered in the article. The classification of competitive strategies is developed. A model of a strategic rhombus is proposed as a theoretical basis for determining areas for improving the mechanisms of managing the competitiveness of agribusiness entities, which includes five elements: arena; conductor; differentiators; sequence; economic logic. The proposals of applied character concerning realization of competitive strategies of innovative-investment development of subjects of agricultural production are substantiated. PurposeThe purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between the dimensions of sustainable competitive advantages in the Indian low cost airlines.Design/methodology/approachThis study used structural equation modelling methods to identify the factors that significantly affect the sustainable competitive advantages enjoyed by Indian low-cost carriers (LCCs). Specifically, this study is based on the data from 208 airline experts that populate multiple structural equation models.FindingsResults indicate that indigenous efficiency, the LCCs perceptions of threat, dexterity, strategic persuasion and the LCC adopting an enabling role positively affect LCCs’ competitive advantages. These five factors were all correlated with each other. The results also show that relative to an LCC’s dexterity, indigenous efficiency is a stronger predictor of an LCC’s competitive advantages.Originality/valueThis study provides low-cost airlines with valuable information for designing effective strategies for obtaining competitive advantages in the LCC sector. To conclude the paper, the authors offer practical recommendations for managers and suggest some avenues for future research in this area.

Although green innovation strategy (GIS) is the driving force for the sustainable development of enterprises, while the strategy is implemented, an increased cost and a change in organizational routines will cause an organization to become fragile, and even affect the sustainable competitive advantages. So, the purpose of this paper is to explore the impact path of GIS on sustainable competitive advantages and the implementation boundary of GIS. To explain the impact path, we consider the concept of dynamic capabilities to be the mediator variable. To explain the implementation boundary of GIS, we systematically explore the relationships among GIS, dynamic capabilities and sustainable competitive advantages under different levels of environmental uncertainty. Based on 241 new Chinese green firms, the empirical results find that GIS helps enterprises to gain sustainable competitive advantages. However, in the process of strategy implementation, enterprises should choose appropriate methods according to different degrees of environmental uncertainty. In a low environmental uncertainty, dynamic capabilities play a full intermediary role between GIS and sustainable competitive advantages. However, in a high environmental uncertainty, dynamic capabilities have no mediating effect between GIS and sustainable competitive advantages. This study not only integrates green management theory and strategic management theory but also makes up for the deficiencies in research on these theories and has important reference value for enterprises that seek to carry out green innovation activities.
