How to make a sandcastle with good stability is an interesting modeling problem, the core of which is how to design the shape of its foundation and select appropriate material so that it can fully resist wave erosion. First, we design the Foundation Shape Optimization (FSO) Model to obtain the geometric shape that last longest. By pre-screening, we preliminarily select the circular truncated cone. Then we analyse the impact force of the sea waves, list the constraint conditions and calculate the optimal parameters for it. Second, the water-to-sand mixture is identified by microcosmic Normalized Extremum Model. Before getting results, the Ideal Sand Particles Plane (ISPP) Model helps us figure out the equivalent relationship among three functions. Finally, we get the objective function through normalization and work out the best proportion (13.14%) with the optimal sub-humid angle through Genetic Algorithm (GA).

In this work, 585.95 meters long falling cable will be considered to compute its impact on a steel beam. The beam is lifted by two cranes and used as a shield to protect structures under the cables, during its installation. Using energy conservation concepts, it is possible to find the impact force on the beam, and, with that, to design the ideal steel cross section to support such impact. A model was also developed using the STRAP software, via Finite Element Method, to perform a more refined analysis and check the design of the metal beam.

The purpose of this work is the experimental investigation and the mathematical modeling of the impact force behavior in a vibro-impact system, where an impact pendulum is mounted on a cart that moves with a prescribed displacement. The dynamics of the system will be evaluated considering different excitation frequencies and changing the impact gap. Experimental data are used to validate the mathematical model. The mathematical model allows a detailed nonlinear analysis, showing the rich response of the system, which includes dynamical jumps, bifurcations and chaos. In impact systems, discrepancies between numerical results and experimental measurements are common due to the difficulty in describing all factors that influence the resulting impact force profile. The use of wires to suspend the impacting body has the purpose to limit these uncertainties.


Abstract. The increased level of sports performance in rhythmic gymnastics due to fiercer and better and better organised competitions is obvious for any critic. National and international sports bodies and public opinion stimulated by media coverage eager for sensational have created an obsession with the prioritisation of values. Obtaining exceptional results, medals, points and titles, with all the deriving moral effects of pride but especially related to material aspects, is of interest to both athletes and the countries represented by sports delegations in official international competitions. Competition analysis provides highly valuable information on the level reached in terms of qualitative and quantitative gains and the impact of regulations on a team’s performance at a certain time in relation to the ideal model imposed by the requirements of the FIG Code of Points. Romania’s position in the team ranking for the group event in two major competitions generated a number of questions that formed the core of the current study. In this context, we aimed to perform an objective analysis of the way in which coaches approached the compositional criterion in designing the competition routines and identify possibly strategic elements that made the difference in team ranking. The study was conducted on the first 8 junior teams ranked at the 2019 European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships (Baku) and the 2019 Rhythmic Gymnastics Junior World Championships (Moscow). Video analysis allowed us to identify the vectors that directly or indirectly influenced the mechanisms involved in the creation of compositions for the group event.

Under the term “Hilfe zur Arbeit” (aid for work) the federal law of social welfare subsumes all kinds of labour disciplining instruments. First, the paper shows the historical connection of welfare and labour disciplining mechanisms in the context of different periods within capitalist development. In a second step, against the background of historical experiences, we will analyse the trends of “Hilfe zur Arbeit” during the past two decades. It will be shown that by the rise of unemployment, the impact of labour disciplining aspects of “Hilfe zur Arbeit” has increased both on the federal and on the municipal level. For this reason the leverage of the liberal paradigm would take place even in the core of social rights.

Rainfall is a major component of the environment and the main source of the air purification becouse of many pollutants increases who have the most varied sources: various human activities including industry and agriculture, and some household duties. Air purification by means of precipitation is achieved by numerous highly complex mechanisms. The final products of degradation of the pollutant in the air, which are generally harmless, can be reacted with each other in the presence of water, giving rise to the final compounds with a high toxicity. Thus, exhaust, mobile sources of noxious almost identical to those specific activities in the industrial processing of oil, contain lead which is the ideal catalyst for converting SO2 to sulfuric acid in the presence of rainwater, with all the disadvantages that they create. This paper will present an experimental research oabout how rainfall water quality is influenced by the activity of the industrial processing of oil, in a chemical plant in Constanta County.

Chapter 8 explores the Austere and Hybrid Responses to the problem of error. The two types of response are described in both ideal and non-ideal versions. Both are found wanting, but the Austere Response emerges as best. Codes endorsed by the Austere approach cannot be shown to meet the “goal-oriented” desiderata of maximizing social welfare, facilitating social cooperation and long-range planning, or guaranteeing the occurrence of the ideal pattern of actions. But Austere-endorsed codes do satisfy the conceptual desiderata for “usable” moral theories in the core (but not the extended) sense of “usability.” They are usable despite the agent’s false beliefs, and they provide agents with the opportunity to live a successful moral life according to the modest conception of this life. This chapter concludes that the only remedy for the problem of error is an Austere code containing a derivative duty for agents to gather information before acting.

Political conversation is at the heart of democratic societies, and it is an important precursor of political engagement. As society has become intertwined with the communication infrastructure of the Internet, we need to understand its uses and the implications of those uses for democracy. This chapter provides an overview of the core topics of scholarly concern around online citizen deliberation, focusing on three key areas of research: the standards of quality of communication and the normative stance on citizen deliberation online; the impact and importance of digital platforms in structuring political talk; and the differences between formal and informal political talk spaces. After providing a critical review of these three major areas of research, we outline directions for future research on online citizen deliberation.

Mechanical performance of 3d-printed polyamide sandwich beams with different type of the lattice cores is investigated. Four variants of the beams are considered, which differ in the type of connections between the elements in the lattice structure of the core. We consider the pantographic-type lattices formed by the two families of inclined beams placed with small offset and connected by stiff joints (variant 1), by hinges (variant 2) and made without joints (variant 3). The fourth type of the core has the standard plane geometry formed by the intersected beams lying in the same plane (variant 4). Experimental tests were performed for the localized indentation loading according to the three-point bending scheme with small span-to-thickness ratio. From the experiments we found that the plane geometry of variant 4 has the highest rigidity and the highest load bearing capacity in the static tests. However, other three variants of the pantographic-type cores (1–3) demonstrate the better performance under the impact loading. The impact strength of such structures are in 3.5–5 times higher than those one of variant 4 with almost the same mass per unit length. This result is validated by using numerical simulations and explained by the decrease of the stress concentration and the stress state triaxiality and also by the delocalization effects that arise in the pantographic-type cores.

AbstractIn order to select the heterogeneous multicore fiber (MCF) configuration with ultra-low crosstalk and low peak bending radius, comparative crosstalk analysis have been done for the three possible core configurations, namely, Configuration 1 - different refractive index (R.I.) and different radius, Configuration 2 - different R.I., and Configuration 3 - different radius. Using the coupled mode equation and the simplified expressions of mode coupling coefficient (MCC) for different configurations of heterogeneous cores, the crosstalk performance of all the heterogeneous MCF configurations along with the homogeneous MCF have been investigated analytically with respect to core pitch (D) and fiber bending radius (${R}_{b}$). Further, these expressions of MCC have been extended to obtain the simplified expressions of MCC for the estimation of crosstalk levels in respective trench-assisted (TA) heterogeneous MCF configurations. It is observed from the analysis that in Configuration 1, crosstalk level is lowest and the rate of decrease in the crosstalk with respect to the core pitch is highest compared to the other configurations of heterogeneous MCF. The values of crosstalk obtained analytically have been validated by comparing it with the values obtained from finite element method (FEM) based numerical simulation results. Further, we have investigated the impact of a fixed percent change (5%) in the core parameters (radius and/or R.I.) of one of the core of a homogeneous MCF, to realize the different heterogeneous MCF configurations, on the variations in crosstalk levels, difference in the mode effective refractive index of the core 1 and core 2 ($\Delta {n}_{eff}={n}_{eff1}-{n}_{eff2}$), and the peak bending radius (${R}_{pk}$). For the same percent variations (5%) in the core parameters (radius and/or R.I.) of different configurations of cores (Config. 1-Config. 3), Config. 1 MCF has highest variation in $\Delta {n}_{eff}$ value compared to other configurations of MCF. Further, this highest variation in $\Delta {n}_{eff}$ value of Config. 1 MCF results in smallest peak bending radius. The smaller value of peak bending radius allows MCF to bend into smaller radius. Therefore, Configuration 1 is the potential choice for the design of MCF with smaller peak bending radius and ultra-low crosstalk level compared to the other configurations of SI-heterogeneous MCF.
