‘The case for atheism’ investigates the case for atheism, which does not depend on proving God does not exist but on making a good case for naturalism. The atheist’s naturalism consists in the view that a human being is a biological animal rather than some kind of embodied spiritual soul, as many religious believers think. The strong evidence all points to our biological nature. We need to think about inductive and abductive arguments concerning atheism as well and differentiate atheism from agnosticism, before assessing whether atheism is a faith position. What are the arguments for religious belief?

<p><em>Hinduism believes in the existence of four phases of life to be traversed by the so-called Chess Dormitory. The four phases of human development are Brahmacari, Grehasta, Wanaprasta, and Bhiksuka (Sanyasin). Of the four phases, marriage is included in the stage of development of life, the second human being (Grehasta). In Javanese traditional marriage contains many values that are poured in the symbols, one of which is used like the Kembar Mayang. All ceremonial facilities in Java still use the standard or rules in the Javanese tradition that still apply and is a local religious belief. However, people's understanding of the ceremonial facilities is still lacking. This research is a qualitative research which in collecting data, researcher use observation technique, interview, document study and literature study.</em></p><p><em>From this research, </em><em>t</em><em>he process of marriage ceremony of Hindu people in Sidorejo village in general starts from</em><em> lamaran, pasang </em><em>tarub, selamatan, inauguration of husband and wife, bridal meeting (nemokake manten), and the peak is marked with marriage party and continued with ceremony sepasaran.</em><em> </em><em>Upacara marriage of Hindu have function (1) preserving Javanese tradition as a form of preservation of ancestral traditions that have been carried out for generations, (2) religious function (3) social function. The theological significance embodied in the Hindu marriage ceremony in Sidorejo Village is as early as entering the life of grhasta, the cleansing of the spirits of the ancestors, obtaining the suputra and surely embodying a happy family of birth and mind (sukinah).</em></p><p><em> </em></p>

This chapter brings together the results of the previous chapters and shows what role Locke’s moral, religious, metaphysical, and epistemic background beliefs play in his thinking about persons and personal identity. Locke breaks with traditional metaphysical debates, first, by adopting a metaphysically agnostic stance with regard to the materiality or immateriality of thinking substances and, second, by arguing for a kind-dependent approach to questions of identity over time. Locke’s moral and legal conception of a person, according to which persons are subjects of accountability, is informed by his moral and religious beliefs. His thinking about moral accountability can be challenged and has been challenged by his contemporaries. Although Locke has good reasons for distinguishing our idea of a person from that of a human being and of a substance, these reasons are based on his metaphysical agnostic views and his religious belief in an afterlife.

The concept of death is something that is often questioned by humans. Because no human being has been able to provide strong evidence of what happened after death. Therefore this question also needs to be answered in the light of the Christian faith. The rationale for discussing death is the Bible. But it must be realized that the Bible is also present in the cultural context and traditions of the nation of Israel. So to get the principle or meaning needed is also an assessment of the context and principle of death of the people of Israel. Theological review is needed so as not to get caught up in Judaism in understanding the concept of death. Therefore, through this paper will explain the theological review of the concept of the nation of Israel about death.

AbstractIn The Book on Adler and “Does a Human Being Have the Right to Let Himself Be Put to Death for the Truth,” Kierkegaard relies on logical reasoning and grammatical analysis in order to arrive at categorical normative conclusions against the use of religious belief and authority as a justification for ethical action. These arguments demonstrate that some types of moral knowledge can be arrived at through reason/logic, despite Kierkegaard’s efforts to separate the spheres of logic and existence. Kierkegaard thereby offers a strong critique of both moral exceptionalism and an ethics of conviction, a critique which—as the paper argues—is not incompatible with his existential and Christian ethics.

Nowadays, in the modern era, we can obviously witness some groups of moslems still commit some terrors action to other religion and/or to out-group-moslems just because of different understanding of Islamic dogma. These radical groups of moslem claim that their actions are on behalf of religious’ belief. But, since the very beginning of revelation, Islam ask its followers to spread peace, harmony and prosperity among human being, as Islam have essential principle “rahmah li al-‘alamin”. So, certain perspectives or ways of understanding Islamic teaching applied by those groups are assumed to have emerged their negative response to other religion and out-group-moslems. This paper examines the significance of rational understanding to Islam proposed by al-Jâbirî to reinterpretation of jihad in the modern context. The point of al-Jâbirî’s rational view is relevant factor to eliminate and minimize normative understanding to Islam.

The first step into clearness in the bewildering total of the subjects of theological science would seem to be an agreement concerning the true perspective of faith. In some way or other the world of religious thought needs to be ordered in different degrees of worth. Some scheme involving a gradation of rank, valid for the religious human being, should be imposed upon the objects of religious concern. Relativity is the law of our being,—not the relativity which excludes, but that which is contained in, the absolute, as the planet in infinite space; and a deep and sure grasp of this law would seem to be of the utmost moment in theology. The story is told that Francis W. Newman, the radical, made a journey from London to Birmingham to discuss the profounder issues of religious belief with his brother, John Henry Newman, the Catholic; and when the question arose as to the axiom from which debate should begin, the Catholic proposed to the radical as the surest principle of faith the infallibility of the Pope. This story has, if not literal, at least symbolic truth. It serves admirably as an illustration of Cardinal Newman's sense of the perplexity and contradiction of his time, and his fine irony. It is almost needless to add that, while men are thus at variance concerning the relative security and value of the different interests of Christian faith, discussion can be nothing but a discipline in confusion.

Life beyond 1MeV – like life after 40 – is not too different unless one takes advantage of past experience and is receptive to new opportunities. At first glance, the returns on performing electron microscopy at voltages greater than 1MeV diminish rather rapidly as the curves which describe the well-known advantages of HVEM often tend towards saturation. However, in a country with a significant HVEM capability, a good case can be made for investing in instruments with a range of maximum accelerating voltages. In this regard, the 1.5MeV KRATOS HVEM being installed in Berkeley will complement the other 650KeV, 1MeV, and 1.2MeV instruments currently operating in the U.S. One other consideration suggests that 1.5MeV is an optimum voltage machine – Its additional advantages may be purchased for not much more than a 1MeV instrument. On the other hand, the 3MeV HVEM's which seem to be operated at 2MeV maximum, are much more expensive.

Abstract. The aim of this study was to determine if contingency awareness between the conditioned (CS) and unconditioned stimulus (US) is necessary for concurrent electrodermal and eyeblink conditioning to masked stimuli. An angry woman’s face (CS+) and a fearful face (CS−) were presented for 23 milliseconds (ms) and followed by a neutral face as a mask. A 98 dB noise burst (US) was administered 477 ms after CS+ offset to elicit both electrodermal and eyeblink responses. For the unmasking conditioning a 176 ms blank screen was inserted between the CS and the mask. Contingency awareness was assessed using trial-by-trial ratings of US-expectancy in a post-conditioning phase. The results showed acquisition of differential electrodermal and eyeblink conditioning in aware, but not in unaware participants. Acquisition of differential eyeblink conditioning required more trials than electrodermal conditioning. These results provided strong evidence of the causal role of contingency awareness on differential eyeblink and electrodermal conditioning.
