Abstract We present a statistical interpretation of plasma (Pl) and (or) erythrocyte (Erc) concentrations of magnesium, zinc, calcium, potassium, and total high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, as well as of the activity of total creatine kinase (CK) and its CK-MB isoenzyme, in 26 men with pre-infarction syndrome (PIS) and 34 men with acute myocardial infarction (MI). Discriminant analysis allowed overall comparison of both groups and determination of the most significant variables: CK and Pl-Zn. By non-hierarchical cluster analysis we defined three homogeneous subgroups among MI men, with CK, CK-MB, and Pl-Zn differing significantly between the groups. In PIS men, Pl-Zn was correlated with Pl-Ca, whereas in MI men Pl-Zn was correlated with Pl-Mg. Stepwise regression indicated that Pl-Zn was the most significant regressor of CK in PIS men and of CK-MB in MI men. All these statistical interpretations support a special role of Pl-Zn in diagnosis and perhaps prognosis. After MI, interleukin-1 release may possibly mediate observed hypozincemia via formation of a heart Zn-metallothionein.

This article is dedicated to examination of the characteristics of the doctrine of Raja yoga in interpretation Of M. V. Lodyzhensky. The goal consists in the analysis and reconstruction of the system of Raja yoga within the religious-ethical philosophy of the thinker. In the course of this research, the author resolves a number of problems: examines the system of primary elements of religious-ethical philosophy of M. V. Lodyzhensky; analyzes the sources that affected the formation of views of the philosopher upon Raja yoga; reveals main characteristics of the system of Raja yoga within Lodyzhensky’s philosophy; determines the peculiarities of religious-mystical practice of Raja yoga in the philosophy of M. V. Lodyzhensky; defines the role of Raja-yoga within the system of religious-ethical philosophy of the thinker. The novelty lies in determination of the novel in comparison to the existing in scientific literature categories of M. V. Lodyzhensky’s philosophy and their analysis in the context of system of fundamental sections of philosophical knowledge (ontology, theology, anthropology, epistemology, axiology, ethics); as well as in comprehensive study of the system of Raja yoga in interpretation Of M. V. Lodyzhensky and determination of its role within the structure of his philosophy. It is established that the “core” of the system of religious-ethical philosophy of M. V. Lodyzhensky is the ethics develop ethics and axiology of Hesychasm developed by him. It is proven that the system of metaphysical categories and ideas of the thinker is of synthetic nature and leans on various cultural trends and traditions. The article demonstrates that special role within the system of Lodyzhensky’s philosophy is played by the apologetics of Hesychasm that implies critical review of the non-Christian mystical practices, among which is the examination of Raja yoga. The author underlines the uniqueness of interpretation of Raja yoga in the philosophy M. V. Lodyzhensky, as well as provides critical assessment to his interpretation of the system of Raja yoga.

Abstract We compared the effects of freezing serum on the determination of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) subfractions by two dual-precipitation methods, heparin and manganese chloride/dextran sulfate (HM/DS) (Gidez et al., J Lipid Res 1982;23:1206-23) and DS/DS (Warnick et al., Clin Chem 1982;28:1574), and by ultracentrifugation. Storing serum for 1 month at -70 degrees C resulted in reduced HDL3-cholesterol by ultracentrifugation and reduced total and HDL3-cholesterol by the DS/DS method. There was no change in either total HDL-cholesterol or HDL3-cholesterol with the HM/DS method. Additional studies involving only HM/DS indicated that total HDL-cholesterol in serum stored at 4 degrees C begins to decline after 3 days (-3.1 +/- 3.5%, P < 0.1). HDL was stable at -20 degrees C for 2 weeks but both total and HDL3-cholesterol decreased significantly after 1 month. Storage of serum at -70 degrees C resulted in no changes for 1 year; however, at 18 months, HDL3-cholesterol was reduced 13% (P = 0.002). We conclude that HDL subfractions can be determined accurately in serum as well as in plasma after storage at -70 degrees C for up to 1 year.

The vast majority of research about HDL (high-density lipoprotein) has for decades revolved around the possible role of HDL in atherosclerosis and its therapeutic potential within cardiovascular disease prevention; however, failures with therapies aimed at increasing HDL cholesterol has left questions as to what the role and function of HDL in human health and disease is. Recent observational studies have further shown that extreme high HDL cholesterol is associated with high mortality leading to speculations that HDL could in some instances be harmful. In addition, evidence from observational, and to a lesser extent genetic, studies has emerged indicating that HDL might be associated with the development of other major noncardiovascular diseases, such as infectious disease, autoimmune disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, and lung disease. In this review, we discuss (1) the association between extreme high HDL cholesterol and mortality and (2) the emerging human evidence linking HDL to several major diseases outside the realm of cardiovascular disease.

Abstract One hundred patients with chest pain of cardiac origin were evaluated on the basis of clinical findings, electrocardiograph results, and total creatine kinase (CK) and creatine kinase B-subunit (CK-B) activity (as determined by immunoinhibition with the Boehringer CK-MB kit) in serum. All patients diagnosed as having had an acute myocardial infarction had increased values for both CK-B and total CK. In no case was normal total CK activity associated with an increased CK-B, nor was normal CK-B associated with an increased total CK. During collection of data for reference ranges, we found 10 patients who had no evidence of cardiac disease but had various other diseases, who exhibited high values for CK-B in serum; four of these had normal values for total CK. We conclude that estimations of CK-B in serum by this method added no more diagnostic information than did data on total CK in the evaluation of chest pain.

The authors aim to define the foundations of identity of Cossacks as a part of the multi-layered identity in the Russian Federation. Two concepts are considered: the ambivalence of Cossacks and the concept of cultural core of self-determination of Cossacks. The paper emphasizes the special role of the Cossacks in the Russian socio-cultural situation in view of the fact that the Cossack values and behavioral complex is still relevant today, it fits well with the modern Russian reality. Cossacks today are a reliable stronghold of the healthy statehood.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) remain the leading cause of death in industrialized countries. One of the most significant risk factors for atherosclerosis is hypercholesterolemia. Its diagnostics is based on routine lipid profile analysis, including the determination of total cholesterol, low and high density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides. However in recent years, much attention has been paid to the crosstalk between the metabolic pathways of the cholesterol and sphingolipids biosynthesis. Sphingolipids are a group of lipids, containing a molecule of aliphatic alcohol sphingosine. These include sphingomyelins, cerebrosides, gangliosides and ceramides, sphingosines, and sphingosine-1-phosphate (S-1-P). It has been found that catabolism of sphingolipids is associated with catabolism of cholesterol. However, the exact mechanism of this interaction is still unknown. Particular attention as CVD inducer attracts ceramide (Cer). Lipoprotein aggregates isolated from atherosclerotic pluques are enriched with Cer. The level of Cer and sphingosine increases after ischemia reperfusion of the heart, in the infarction zone and in the blood, and also in hypertension. S-1-P exhibits pronounced cardioprotective properties. Its content sharply decreases with ischemia and myocardial infarction. S-1-P presents predominantly in HDL, and influences their multiple functions. Increased levels of Cer and sphingosine and decreased levels of S-1-P formed in the course of coronary heart disease can be an important factor in the development of atherosclerosis. It is proposed to use determination of sphingolipids in blood plasma as markers for early diagnosis of cardiac ischemia and for hypertension in humans. There are intensive studies aimed at correction of metabolism S-1-P. The most successful drugs are those that use S-1-P receptors as a targets, since all of its actions are receptor-mediated.

Abstract Background: Triglycerides (TG)/high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol ratio is a marker of small/dense low-density lipoprotein particles, which are closely associated with various metabolic and vascular diseases. However, the role of TG/HDL cholesterol ratio in cerebrovascular diseases has not been well studied. In this study, we evaluated the relationship between TG/HDL cholesterol ratio and the presence of silent brain infarct (SBI) in a neurologically healthy population. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated consecutive participants in health check-ups between January 2006 and December 2013. SBI was defined as an asymptomatic, well-defined lesion with a diameter of ≥ 3 mm on T1- or T2-weighted images. TG/HDL cholesterol ratio was calculated after dividing absolute TG levels by absolute HDL cholesterol levels. Results: Of 3,172 healthy participants, 263 (8.3%) had SBI lesions. In multivariate analysis, TG/HDL cholesterol ratio was independently associated with SBI (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 1.16, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.00 to 1.34, P = 0.047). This association was prominent in males (aOR = 1.23, 95% CI = 1.03 to 1.48, P = 0.021), but not in females. In the analyses of the relationships between lipid parameters and SBI lesion burden, TG/HDL cholesterol ratio was positively correlated, and total cholesterol/TG ratio was negatively correlated with SBI lesion burden, in dose-response manners (P for trend = 0.015 and 0.002, respectively). Conclusions: The TG/HDL cholesterol ratio was positively associated with the prevalence of SBI in a neurologically healthy population.

Observasion of Special Role of Verba”Memasak”” Bali Language (VMBB): Metalanguage Analysis of Natural Semantic analyses semantic aspect, firstly lexical realization and verb classification “memasak” in Bali langage (VMBB) mainly special role of argument semantic VMBB. Determination of the argument roles VMBB using theory of general role (Macroroles) analyses semantic role VMBB. Im general, ACTOR in VMBB acts as agent, UNDERGOER act as patient. Role analyses in this observation are done in layers to determine a semantic in an argument. The analyses of this observation use the design of qualitative observation, meanwhile the collection of data is done by observation method, interview, recording, and noting. Data analysis is done by distributional method by using replacement technique (substitution). The next method is description of special role of verb “memasak” in Bali language (VMBB). Analysis is assisted with explication technique. The presentation of result analysis of the data is done by the method of description, formal, and informal. Lexicon of verba”memasak” in Bali language (VMBB) is found 12 firstly: nyakan,mubuh, ngoreng, ngepes, ngnyahnyah, nadang, nunu, nambus, ngatim, nguskus, nguling, and nglablab.The result of observation shous that the lexion of VMBB have special role firstly as agent and patient.

The impact of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol on the development of atherosclerosis and diseases of systemic circulation has been well documented both in experimental and registry studies. Recent discoveries in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) revealed a significant impact of HDL on pulmonary artery vasoreactivity and patients’ prognosis. The vasoprotective activity of HDL primarily involves vascular endothelium that also plays a central role in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) pathobiology. However, the exact mechanism in which this lipoprotein fraction exerts its effect in pulmonary circulation is still under investigation. This paper reviews potential vasoprotective mechanisms of HDL in pulmonary circulation and presents current clinical reports on the role of HDL in PAH patients.
