Abstract What does the recent Gulf diplomatic crisis of June 2017 to January 2021 mean for the future of the region's signature transnationalism: the khalījī [Gulf] identity? This identity narrative encompasses the shared sociocultural backgrounds of the people of the region, but the unprecedented separations, caused by the regional crisis, may have shifted the discourse of belonging in the Gulf. To investigate the impact of the recent crisis on regional identity narratives, this article explores the new National Museum of Qatar's presentation of Qatar's political history from 1848 to 1868, as well as museum-goers' reactions to this presentation, through original fieldwork and ethnographic interviews with Qatari and expatriate residents. The analysis highlights the museum's purposeful portrayal of parallels between intra-Gulf conflicts of the past and the recent crisis, a presentational choice that stands in sharp contrast to previous regional norms of tactful diplomacy. Further, museum-goers recognized the linguistic and symbolic parallels, provoking both engagement with and rejection of the concept of khalījī identity. In summary, this analysis suggests that the crisis has shifted the norms of discourse in the region in ways that may make social reconciliation difficult, even as political bonds resume. As the region moves forward from crisis, policy-makers should reduce the tension between national and transnational identity narratives by creating space for the renewal of khalījī ties.

The article provides an overview of the turbulent and challenging times facing teachers and administrators in rural schools. The article examines literature from over the past decade to paint a full picture of the economic and social pressures exerting themselves in rural America and the impact these forces are having in rural schools. This work argues that rural education has been ignored too long by policy makers and even many Americans, and that this crime of omission has had disastrous consequences for many small communities. The article concludes with an examination of some of the tentative but hopeful steps that are being taken to address the crisis in rural education.

Overcoming 500 years of fractious relations between tribal and nontribal cultures and governments is an endeavor not easily achieved in America, nor is it one that has always been marked by steady progress. Interpretations of tribal sovereignty have been long disputed. In the past 30 years, this often-debated concept has become an issue of great importance to state and federal governments. Differences of opinion still exist over the impact of tribal sovereignty on policies, procedures, or protocol. However, state and federal policy makers have begun to view the tribes as independent entities entitled to due consideration and an appropriate cultural sensitivity. All branches and levels of governments—including tribal ones—struggle to define mutual areas of responsibility, communication, and cooperation. Decision makers from state, federal, and tribal governments have had some opportunities to share experiences and information in the past. But this practice is still a work in progress despite the most sincere wishes for a better outcome by those participating on a policy level. The common desire of these parties is that intergovernmental relations become more symbiotic and less adversarial, as cooperation can facilitate the mutual interests of all. Accomplishing this task in ways that do not threaten tribal sovereignty is difficult. The 2002 Four Corners Institute for Tribal–State Relations concept is covered along with its participants, methodology, results, limitations, and recommendations for further research. New methodology will be discussed including the remote venue, Native Americans as facilitators, participants as fellows, and the method for choosing format and discussion topics.

The e-payment system in India is experiencing a massive transformation. Mobile phones and e-commerce are growing rapidly and consumers are showing affinity towards digital technology. Indian government is also stepping up by launching “Digital India” initiative to accelerate the awareness, availability and adoption of digital technologies. Today Indian govt., businessman and people are exploring the possibility to move towards a cashless economy. Still these days’ cash remain main mode of transaction amongst the people. As per KPMG report 2017 and the rate of e-payment adoption is increased by approx. ten percent and expected to further increment. The purpose of the study is to analyze behavioral intentions of Indian consumer about e-payment with an application of the UTAUT2 model (unified theory of acceptance and use of technology). This study has applied UTAUT-2 model as a conceptual framework and has considered performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, and habit. For this, the study has targeted 300 respondents based on non-probability convenience sampling method. The data would be processed and analyzed using SPSS version 20 and hypotheses would be performed by applying multiple regression analysis. The biggest challenge in the growth of e-payment in Indian is skeptical mindset of people and their concern about safety and security. People scare that their device can be hacked or virus can be attacked. These serious issues should be addressed by the govt. Furthermore, India faces the challenge of limited adoption of fixed broadband. The work needs to be done in terms of improving the internet infrastructure in the country. This study is contributing to the existing body of knowledge in area of e-payment where there is a research vacuum especially in context of India. Furthermore, it helps to understand the impact of UTAUT 2 models variates on behavioral intention among Indians about e-payment which is again researched by very few people. The outcomes of this study would be beneficial to govt., policy makers, banks, online transaction facilities providers and software developers in developing strategies about e-payment acceptance and use. As this study is confined to India only, its findings may be generalized to other countries directly.

scholarly journals The historical parallels between today's events in the Donbass and the pages of its past of hundred years ago, when this region was in the center of a fierce struggle between different political forces, social strata, and hostile groups are analyzed in this article. The main attention is focused on the investigation of attempts to create an anti-Ukrainian identity in the Donbass based on the use of prepared facts of events related to the history of the creation and short-term existence of the Donetsk-Kryvyi Rih Soviet Republic. It was determined that during almost the entire period of Ukraine’s independence in the Donbas, with the active participation of the Kremlin, Soviet and imperial interpretations of history were spread, ideas of a special regional identity were formed, and the ideological basis of anti-Ukrainian insinuations was created. At the same time, history was used as a kind of propaganda, and manipulation of the past. It was one of the main strategies of anti-Ukrainian forces in the Donbass. Stereotypes were instilled that this region is the territory of the formation of "novoros", "the people of Donbass", who have their own mentality and even traditions of statehood, unrelated to the history of Ukraine. All this became the ideological basis of the bloody events associated with the attempt to create in 2014 the so-called "people’s republics" in the territory of Donbass. Pseudo-referendums were held in this region, pseudo-independent republics headed by puppet governments, fully controlled by the Kremlin, were proclaimed like a hundred years ago, in order to restore imperial domination in Ukraine, according to the experience of the Bolsheviks. On the example of historical parallels of personal destinies of people who are forced one way or another to lead regional separatist movements or become puppets in the hands of external puppeteers by the revolutionary events of both a hundred years ago and today. It is reminded of the inadmissibility of ignoring the laws of historical development.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the processes of formation of Latgale’s territorial identity during the age of globalization in the last 20 years. Research was carried out using the latest data of qualitative research of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of University of Latvia (the thematic research of Latvian Science Council’s project "Political development of the nation's self-confi dence after restoration of Latvian independence: Trends and Factors," head of project: Inese Runce, 2009-2012) and the latest theoretical insights of territorial identity construction processes under the impact of globalization and glocalization. On the basis of analysis of the socio-political processes and the experience of other countries, it must be emphasised that the placemaking is an important political process, not only at national but also at sub-regional level. Regional authorities should be able to offer a specifi c political vision, not only to the national power authorities, but also to the main bearers of regional identity - the people in regions. As it is shown by the recent studies, during the past 20 years in Latvia, the regional identity manifests itself only in Latgale where it is alive and vibrant, and the care and preservation and making of identity comes directly from the very bearers of this identity. Regional authorities, in collaboration with local NGOs, experts on culture, etc. must also contribute to the internal integration of the region, where each municipality and each form of local identity has its own recognized place and function, creating diverse forms of sustainable regional communities and regional identities. Regional identity is not exclusive and is able to unite different religious, ethnic, linguistic groups in a single whole entity. Over the past twenty years the process of formation of Latgale regional identity can be divided into three stages: 1. 90s of 20th century – the stage of denial of regional identity. In this decade the preservation and construction of Latgale regional identity is carried out only by few individuals or interest groups: writers, researchers, artists, local intellectuals who are mainly based in the circles of local intellectuals at Rezekne University College, as well as indirectly Latgale Research Institute of Daugavpils University; 2. The fi rst decade of 2000s - a gradual increase of awareness of regional identity. During the period this has been a gradual growth of awareness of regional identity and its development process. "Latgale radio”, Latgalian music groups are being launched, also the extensive scientific and political debate on the status of Latgale language started, socio-linguistic research projects initiated and a new non-governmental organizations established, the first portals in Latgalian as well the new initiative of regional municipalities are being launched; 3. 2010 to 2013 - analyzing the last three years of political and intellectual life trends, it can be argued that a qualitatively new stage in the recognition of regional identity and its construction process has been created: current political debate before and after the elections of 11th Saeima and the language referendum, discussions on the role of Latgalian as regional language, the National Development plan (NDP), development of the structural budget plans. However, it is clear that those spring sprouts must be protected, due to the fact that the strong centralizing tendencies in the Latvian political culture still exist.

This paper explores the effects of home-sharing platforms in general and Airbnb in particular on rental rates at a neighbourhood level. Using consumer-facing Airbnb data from ten neighbourhoods located within large metropolitan areas in the U.S. between 2013–2017, as well as rental data from the American online real estate database company, Zillow, this paper examines the relationship between Airbnb penetration and rental rates. The results indicate that the relationship is not as unanimous as once thought. Viewing the relationship at an aggregate level, an approach used by many researchers in the past, hides the complexities of the underlying effects. Instead, Airbnb’s impact on rental rates depends on a neighbourhood’s individual characteristics. This study also urges policy makers to create tailor-made solutions that help curb the negative impacts associated with the platform whilst still harnessing its economic benefits.

Most archaeological research on the impact of Inka imperialism at the domestic level centers on the intrusion of Inka-style buildings into pre-Inka domestic settlements as transforming the experience of domestic life and actively hindering interhousehold interaction. Results from excavations in the site of Ampugasa in Huarochirí (Lurín valley, Lima, Peru) show that pre-Inka residential spaces (patio-groups) were replaced by enclosures with a single access to an internal patio for domestic activities. My analysis shows that pre-Inka houses were ritually closed, directly connected to the site's ritual core, and remained part of the everyday life experience of people in the settlement. I argue that Ampugasa's transformation corresponds to a pattern of Inka imperialism in Huarochirí that enshrined rather than erased the collective ritual practices through which the people of Huarochirí maintained a broad regional identity. I propose that the interplay between Inka transformation of domestic space in Ampugasa and the continuity of ritual and secular practices among the site's inhabitants shows a space of negotiation where Inka imperialism still relied heavily on local practices that fostered the continuity of collective identities.

In recent years, rents of apartments in Beijing have been rising rapidly. A survey shows that Beijing, as a central city, has a large number of population changes due to the concentration of various high-quality resources. Besides, the immigrate population is an important reason for the increase of urban housing demands and the further increase of housing prices. At the same time, the problem of household registration system makes a large number of immigrate population still choose to buy houses in the original place, which further aggravates the spatial mismatch of housing demands in China. To find out the changes law of rent with the immigrate population, further help the government to perfect the policy for rental market, and help the people to get suggestions for rent, this article uses Saiz model for reference to build a theoretical model of the impact of immigrate population on housing prices to studies the relationship between immigrate population and rent changes in Beijing during the past eight years, and makes reasonable suggestions for residents and the government.
