Evidence-based practice depends on research as its key source, and that research follows one of several designs. This chapter identifies commonly used research designs, terms used in their application, and the special strengths and weaknesses of each design. Designs include randomized clinical trials, quasi-experimental designs, surveys, and case study methods. Discussion of multivariate methods covers the important role of partial correlation and its applications in multiple regression, structural equation modeling, factor analysis (both exploratory and confirmatory), and mediator analysis. The chapter further details the role of the hypothesis in the designs, types of errors (I and II) affecting conclusions, and the role of power in statistical tests. Critical factors in drawing causal conclusions from the various designs receive special attention throughout.

This research is a case study to help identify the driving factors of e-commerce acceptance by small businesses in Keranggan Village in Indonesia. This study argues that factors such as technology-organization-environment need to be strengthened by network capability from business actors so that e-commerce adoption intention emerges.  From the total samples of 100 business actors in Keranggan Village. The study utilized Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS 3.0 for data examination. Consequently, the relationship of technological context with e-commerce acceptance is mediated by significant network capability.

Promoting physical activity (PA) and eliminating health disparities among underserved minority children is a public health priority. The main purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of actual motor competence (a set of object control skills) and perceived motor competence with PA participation and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among underserved Hispanic children who were born in the U.S. Guided by Stodden et al.’s conceptual model, we tested the direct and indirect effects (mediational model) of actual motor competence on health-related outcomes (PA and HRQoL) through perceived motor competence. Participants were 215 underserved Hispanic children (Mage = 10.55 years, SD = 0.53 [age range 10–12]; 51.6% boys), recruited from four elementary schools in the southwestern U.S., who completed validated questionnaires assessing their perceived motor competence, PA, and HRQoL. Their actual motor skills were assessed using PE MetricsTM. After examining the associations among the variables, we tested the hypothesized model using structural equation modeling (SEM; AMOS 25). The hypothesized model indicated a good fit (χ²/df = 38.427/24 = 1.60 < 5; non-normed fit index (NFI) = 0.93; comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.968; root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.053 [0.016, 0.083]). The effect of actual motor competence on PA and HRQoL was fully mediated by perceived motor competence. The findings demonstrated the mediating role of perceived motor competence between actual motor competence and health-related outcomes (PA and HRQoL) among underserved Hispanic children. The results highlight that actual motor competence significantly predicted underserved Hispanic children’ perceived motor competence, which in turn positively predicted their PA and HRQoL. These findings have significant practical implications for future intervention strategies of randomized clinical trials in schools aimed at promoting PA and HRQoL and eliminating health disparities among underserved Hispanic children.

Some academics are pushing for teaching staff to implement didactical practices to obtain sustainable behavior. Moreover, a fundamental element of gamification in all educational stages is the noteworthy effect it has on student motivation. In our study, we examined higher education students’ assessments in the University of Malaga on the design of educational gamification and the teaching criteria that relate to gamification, and its effect on student’s motivation, the applications of gamification, and the attitude towards sustainability. A questionnaire was administered to students studying for degrees in education from the University of Malaga. A total of 187 valid surveys were obtained. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was computed for these data based on an exploratory–confirmatory model and using SmartPLS version 3.3.2. A positive relationship between assessment of students’ motivation and sustainability attitude was found. We found that the opinions of the students about the role of their training and teaching design material in education would affect students’ motivation and the sustainability behavior, although the power of this last construct is moderate.

Purpose – Cobranding is increasingly popular as a strategy for commercial success. Brand positioning strategies are central to marketing, yet the impact of perceptions of parent brands’ positioning on consumers’ perceptions of cobrand positioning has not been investigated. The aim of the present study is to fill this gap. Design/methodology/approach – Employing a quasi-experimental design, the authors create cobranding scenarios in three product categories (tablet computers, cosmetics, and smart phones). The data are collected via structured questionnaires resulting in 160 valid responses. The data are analyzed employing Partial Least Squares-based Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), and consumer evaluation of cobrands is tested in relationship to the prior positioning of the parent brands, product fit and brand fit, along with post-alliance positioning perceptions of the partner brands. Findings – The results confirm brand positioning as a robust indicator of consumer evaluation of cobrands. Positioning perceptions of partner brands are positively related to cobrand positioning perceptions. In addition, pre-alliance positioning significantly relate to post-alliance positioning, confirming cobranding as a viable strategy for partner brands. Research limitations/implications – The paper recommends research that could reveal the impact of differential brand equities of partner brands, such as, between a high-equity brand and a low/moderate-equity brand, mixed brand alliances – product/service; service/service, and at different levels of partner brand familiarity. Practical implications – Managers should design cobrand positioning based on existing positioning perceptions of the partner brands, rather than focussing on product fit and brand fit. Originality/value – The study demonstrates the focal role of positioning strategies of partner brands in consumer evaluation of cobrands.

Performance of PT WIKON in two consecutive years indicated run into downtrend from the year 2018 to the year 2019. Low levels of Entrepreneurial Orientation, Innovation Capability, and Market Orientation have been suspected as factors leading to the performance of PT WIKA Industri & Konstruksi.  The objective of this study is to investigate Market Orientation as the mediator of relationship Entrepreneurial Orientation and Innovation Capability on Firm Performance in a construction company. However, study-related Market Orientation as a mediator on the indirect effect of Innovation Capability and Firm Performance is still rare, therefore research on this subject can be seen as Novelty. There are Six theory-based hypotheses are measured. This research employs a quantitative approach with empirical evidence of employees and BOD of PT WIKA Industri & Konstruksi. Survey data are from 93 respondents were analyzed used structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings of this research showed that Market Orientation has a positive effect on Firm Performance. Surprisingly, Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) and Innovation Capability (IC) independently do not have a direct effect on Firm Performance. The Effect of Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) on Firm Performance (FP) is mediated by Market Orientation. Likewise, the effect of Innovation Capability (IC) on Firm Performance (FP) is mediated by Market Orientation. These results suggest that Entrepreneurial Orientation and Innovation Capability should focus on Market Orientation to improve the overall Firm Performance. Besides, it is highly recommended to middle management and above of PT WIKA Industri & Konstruksi should focus and allocate resources to Market Orientation to improve their Firm Performance.

The role of the municipality in disaster management is a well-researched topic, but there is an ongoing debate concerning municipal capability in handling disasters. Many researchers have argued that governmental capability is a crucial factor in ensuring effective disaster management. Thus, several studies have measured or analyzed disaster-management capabilities at the local level. However, the relationships between the related indicators have not yet been ascertained. This study addressed this research gap by examining, with a special focus on non-structural aspects, how each indicator is related to governmental capability, as well as by examining other external indicators. We also made recommendations for developing, based on municipal characteristics, the capabilities of local governments. To do this, we employed structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze data obtained from surveys conducted in 106 municipalities in Indonesia. Our findings indicated the existence of complicated relationships between the factors that improve local governmental capabilities and the external factors that influence capabilities. We found that the “budget allocation” factor played a fundamental role in disaster management. This article thus recommends increasing “budget allocation” as a primary way to strengthen local governmental capabilities in this area.

Using partial least squares-structural equation modeling, we investigated the relationship between residents’ perceptions of the sociocultural impacts of tourism development and community participation in Pantai Cenang, Langkawi Island. We also investigated the moderating role of gender, age and education level on these relationships. The results revealed significant positive relationships between the positive and negative perceptions of residents and community participation; moreover, residents’ gender and age had a moderating effect on these relationships. These findings have implications for tourism development planners and government authorities seeking to expand the involvement of local residents in tourism developments.

This study discusses how teacher training, family support and self efficacy have an effect on achievement at motivation of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Lubuk Pakam, Deli Serdang, North Sumatera, Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze the effect of teacher training with the role of self efficacy as mediation on chievement motivation and influence of family support to motivation achievement teacher of State at Madrasah Tsanawiyah of Lubuk Pakam, Deli Serdang, North Sumatera, Indonesia The sampling technique used a census technique with 43 respondents teacher of State at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri Lubuk Pakam, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Indonesia and have attended teacher certification training. The analytical tool used is SmartPLS v.3.2.7 with SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) analysis method. Finally, results revealed a positive and significant effect on selfefficacy, self-efficacy a positive and significant effect on achievement motivation, family support a positive and significant impact on achievement motivation, self-efficacy proven to mediate the influence of teacher training on achievement motivation.

The study presented in this paper aimed to find out and obtain empirical evidence about the role of administrative modernization of the tax collector entity in shaping tax morals to improve private individual taxpayer compliance. Sampling in this study used the purposive sampling method, which resulted in a sample of 244 respondents in the city of Madiun (Indonesia). Data analysis was conducted by means of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Partial Least Squares (PLS). The results showed that morals were positively influential towards taxpayer compliance. Furthermore, high morals positively influence the taxpayer’s compliance with the modernization of the tax collector administration as moderation variables.

This study aims to investigate the impact of parental career behaviors on undergraduate student’s career exploration and the mediating role of career self-efficacy. In the literature it is suggested that some social and individual factors facilitate students’ career exploration. Therefore, parental career behaviors and career self-efficacy is considered as predictors of student’s career exploration attitudes within the scope of the study. In this respect, data which are collected from 405 undergraduate students having an education on tourism and hotel management field by the survey method are analyzed by using the structural equation modeling. The results of the study indicate that parental career behaviors which are addressed support; interference and lack of engagement have a significant effect on student’s career exploration behaviors such as intended-systematic exploration, environment exploration and self-exploration. In addition, it has been found that one of the dimensions of parental career behaviors addressed as a lack of engagement has a significant effect on career self-efficacy levels of students. However, research results indicate that student’s career self-efficacy has a significant effect on only the self-exploration dimension. On the other hand, career self-efficacy has a partial mediating role between lack of engagement attitudes of parents and career exploration behaviors of students.
