Instructional communication is a discipline that centers on the role that communication plays in the teaching-learning process independent of the type of student learner, the subject matter, or the instructional setting. Since its formal recognition as an area of academic study in 1972 by the International Communication Association, instructional communication researchers examine how several factors—such as instructor teaching strategies and preferences, student learning styles and orientations, instructor classroom management practices, instructor and student characteristics, and the development of communication relationships—not only influence how and why students interact with their instructors and their peers, but also the ways in which students respond favorably to the learning environment.

ABSTRACTA new experiment to implement and collectively publish undergraduate students' research was started at the School of Technology, Eastern Illinois University in the Fall of 1998. A summary of the procedures followed in this experiment, its assessment and its progress are presented. Collective research publications, authored by undergraduate engineering students and edited by their faculty can be used as an effective teaching / learning tool that benefits students/authors, their peers, faculty/editors, local and other institutions, and industry at large, particularly when this research is interactively posted on the Internet. Through a research study format, undergraduates learn the subject matter much better, become familiar with research methods and techniques early in their careers, and polish their technical writing abilities. As the experiment also fosters teamwork and peer collaboration and evaluation, undergraduates sharpen their oral communication skills through group discussions and in-class presentations. The experiment provided an opportunity for students to independently select and research a particular topic and helped them discover the research resources and reference materials available on the subject matter. As one of the few creative opportunities offered in a class, this experiment presented a variety of learning environments to undergraduates and helped promote their creativity and self-directed learning. It was confirmed that most undergraduate students hold unlimited potential for success as researchers, and that enthusiasm, hard work, self-motivation, and dedication of students are likely to constitute better indicators of success than the conventional grades they earned in the past.

Curriculum planning often starts and ends with a specification of the subject matter knowledge students will study. This paper argues that a better way to start is by performing an educational systems design which considers knowledge needs along with the need to clarify values and make effective decisions. One result of this design work is the new teaching-learning approach called Guided Design which has already been applied to a variety of disciplines.

Czech didactics of geography (teaching/learning geography) has just started its fifth wave in training geography educators at eight university faculties. The current debate is on developing a curriculum emphasizing the position of geography education as the applied discipline of the science/art of geography. 'Challenge for 10 million' is a national debate on the Czech educational system organized by the governmental Dept. of Schools, Youth and Physical Culture, being very critical to teaching geography at primary and secondary schools. That is the reason for the strong re-assessment of social, environmental/ecological, economic, cultural and political relevance on the subject of geography in the educational process. This discourse is also intended for international communication starting in the educational commission of IGUIUGI.

The handling of a large amount of data to analyze certain behaviors is reaching a great popularity in the decade 2010–2020. This phenomenon has been called Big Data. In the field of education, the analysis of this large amount of data, generated to a greater extent by students, has begun to be introduced in order to improve the teaching–learning process. In this paper, it was proposed as an objective to analyze the scientific production on Big Data in education in the databases Web of Science (WOS), Scopus, ERIC, and PsycINFO. A bibliometric study was carried out on a sample of 1491 scientific documents. Among the results, the increase in publications in 2017 and the configuration of certain journals, countries and authors as references in the subject matter stand out. Finally, potential explanations for the study findings and suggestions for future research are discussed.

While certainly a mystery, as Palmer suggests, a teacher’s mission, as well as reward, is educating, drawing out from students what lies dormant while proposing the new, the exhilarating, the as-yet undiscovered. Professors, especially those new to academe, frequently find themselves in the classroom with little preparation, guidance, or direction about how to convey the knowledge and skill set of the profession. The prevailing assumption is that advanced knowledge of subject matter itself is sufficient preparation to teach the subject. The unofficial credential for teaching is completion of a research doctorate in a particular discipline. This narrow position is reinforced by the belief that students will learn from a one-way transmission of information. Many of us have learned to teach the hard way, by the seat of our pants, by circumstance, or by necessity. We often teach unaware of how we teach, both at the surface level of recognizing and identifying what we do in the classroom, and at the philosophical level of considering why we do what we do. Theoretical frameworks and findings from research studies provide only limited assistance in mastering the art and craft of teaching. Between the ideas that research provides and the kinds of direction and decisions you, the teacher, must make, there is a gulf. Teachers, both new and experienced, seek practical yet innovative suggestions for creatively working with students. They need help with difficult questions. How do I divide my focus between establishing a relationship, developing a learning contract, and plunging into content? How can I enhance the learning process without actually getting in the way? How do I best connect with students? How can I make learning active? In what ways can I personalize the teaching/learning environment? How do I adapt the method of teaching to students’ differing learning styles? How do I keep content fresh for them and for me? How do I create a climate that is calming while challenging? How do I build a secure place to invite learning and change? Themes in this book resemble those in my other books that concentrate on clinical practice. They are heartfelt and basic.

Summary Apart from his numerous works in comparative linguistics, Rasmus Kristian Rask (1787–1832) is also the author of a manuscript in which he sets forth in detail his conception of a universal auxiliary language. Written during 1819–1820, this 72-page treatise, entitled Optegnelser til en Pasigraphie, has been neglected by linguistic research up to the present, in part because it remained in manuscript form. Rask’s draft of a planned language is divided into three sections: (1) The grammatical system and basic vocabulary; (2) numerous examples of word-formation, morphology etc. and (3) samples of texts. Rask deplores the waste of energy resulting from the multiplicity of languages in international communication. In his opinion, many intellectual achievements are lost or cannot be further developed owing to lack of exchange facilities. Instead of having to learn words and structures, people should be placed in a position to tackle the subject matter. The practical aim of linguistic studies should therefore be the creation of an international means of communication to be used in the field of science as well as in every-day life. Important postulates of such a conception would be: improved learnability by means of simplification of grammatical structures, consistency in word-formation and easy articulation for people of different language communities. To conform to these aims, Rask decided to create a system mainly on the basis of romance languages, i.e., Latin, Spanish, French and Portugese, complemented by Greek and English. Rask’s essay presents a hitherto unknown type of planned language, commonly described as ‘naturalistic’. Whereas other aposterioric systems like Esperanto give priority to regularity and logic and are therefore called ‘autonomous’, Rask tries to remain faithful to the results of historical evolution. In that respect, Rask’s project resembles Otto Jespersen’s ‘Novial’, which was to be conceived a century later.

An effective classroom management is the key to better teaching-learning results and outcomes. It relates to creating a learning environment and focuses on developing an appropriate students’ behavior at early stage of students’ life. The main objective of the study was to analyze the classroom management techniques within the framework, used by elementary school teachers to make the process operative and successful at school level. The framework developed through the elements three main aspects static, dynamic and teachers’ perception about classroom management practices All the teachers teaching at elementary level and students enrolled at elementary level in district Mirpur (A.K) comprised the population. Data obtained was analyzed; the frequency, percentage and ranking were calculated. It revealed that the environment of classroom was generally suitable for teaching-learning process.  It was recommended to provide teaching A.V Aids to teachers accordingly their classrooms need. Teachers should modify their management techniques to meet the students’ needs on basis of individual differences of students’ in classrooms. As authoritative attitude of teachers discourages the student in their learning, there was need for a friendly environment so that teachers and students can work together to produce good results.
