Internal states of bodily arousal contribute to emotional feeling states and behaviors. This chapter details the influence of interoceptive processing on emotion and describes how deficits in interoceptive ability may underpin aberrant emotional processes characteristic of clinical conditions. The representation and control of bodily physiology (e.g. heart rate and blood pressure) and the encoding of emotional experience and behavior share neural substrates within forebrain regions coupled to ascending neuromodulatory systems. This functional architecture provides a basis for dynamic embodiment of emotion. This chapter will approach the relationship between interoception and emotion within the interoceptive predictive processing framework and describe how emotional states could be the product of interoceptive prediction error minimization.

The article presents the results of a theoretical and empirical research aimed at studying the individual psychological characteristics of emotional intelligence of future teachers with different levels of personal anxiety. In the given publication еmotional intelligence is understood as a personality’s ability to realize its own emotions, to understand their causes, to control them, as well as to understand the emotional sphere of other people, to control their emotions. Anxiety in our study is interpreted as a negative emotional experience associated with a premonition of danger. The study involved students from different faculties of the State Institution “South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University named after K.D. Ushynsky” (52 persons). Correlation analysis has shown that the relationships between emotional intelligence and anxiety parameters have only a negative character. Qualitative analysis allowed to study the individual-typical features of emotional intelligence of future teachers with different levels of personal anxiety. Two groups of subjects – "low-anxiety" persons and "high-anxiety" persons has been established to conduct this analysis (with the help of the "aces" method). Determination of statistically significant differences by Student's t-test showed the advantage of "low-anxiety" persons for most parameters of emotional intelligence (p<​​​​​​​0.005 and 0.01). It turned out that they have a better ability to understand and verbally describe their emotions, recognize them, understand their causes, control them. They are better able to cause and maintain the desired emotions, control unwanted, control the external manifestations of emotions. "Low-anxiety" persons better understand other people's emotions and manage them more successfully, analyze the emotional states of other people by external manifestations (facial expressions, gestures, sound of the voice). They are more sensitive to the internal states of others, are able to evoke certain emotions in them, reduce the intensity of unwanted emotions and may be prone to manipulating people. The obtained results can be used to create emotional intelligence training, as well as in the process of professional selection of teachers. ​

The spectacle of suffering, so much present in the asylum, does not refer here to the field of the visual but to a different form of representation by means of which an emotional experience could be turned into a story. By looking at the way in which madness was given the form of a social drama, I intend to suggest a new way to look at the history of the passions that focuses on the preconditions rather than on the results. The pathologization of passions in general, and of ambition in particular, required a new observational and visual regimen in which certain passionate states could be regarded as vehement or delirious. I would argue that the transformation of emotional symptoms into clinical signs required the mobilization of many elements, including the attentive observation of the inmates, their gestures and, of course, their expressions. In many cases, the configuration of the clinical record acquires the form of a short novella. In some others, in which those who are mad are quoted directly, we are tempted to believe that we may hear their inner voices. In both cases, there is little doubt that the cultural and medical configuration of madness requires not just actors and directors but also a plot, a stage, costumes, props, scenography and, of course, an audience. To explore these theatrical forms, I examine in detail one of the clinical cases reported by Leuret, chief physician for the mentally ill at the prison of Bicêtre. This gives me the opportunity to look at the elements of theatricality included in the clinical reports, but also at the performative nature of emotional states. I claim that the interplay between emotions and clinical conditions was at the core of the pathologization of passions that took place in the early nineteenth century.

The energy efficiency requirements of most energy-consuming sectors have increased recently in response to climate change. For buildings, this means targeting both facility managers and building users with the aim of identifying potential energy savings and encouraging more energy-responsible behaviors. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platform developed in Horizon 2020 FEEdBACk project intends to fulfill these goals by enabling the optimization of energy consumption, generation, and storage and control of flexible devices without compromising comfort levels and indoor air quality parameters. This work aims to demonstrate the real-world implementation and functionality of the ICT platform composed of Load Disaggregation, Net Load Forecast, Occupancy Forecast, Automation Manager, and Behavior Predictor applications. Particularly, the results obtained by individual applications during the test phase are presented alongside the specific metrics used to evaluate their performance.

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a promising strategy in the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The clinical effects of this practice are still largely unknown and unpredictable. In this study, two children affected by mild and moderate ulcerative colitis (UC), were pre- and post-FMT monitored for clinical conditions and gut bacterial ecology. Microbiota profiling relied on receipts’ time-point profiles, donors and control cohorts’ baseline descriptions. After FMT, the improvement of clinical conditions was recorded for both patients. After 12 months, the mild UC patient was in clinical remission, while the moderate UC patient, after 12 weeks, had a clinical worsening. Ecological analyses highlighted an increase in microbiota richness and phylogenetic distance after FMT. This increase was mainly due to Collinsella aerofaciens and Eubacterium biforme, inherited by respective donors. Moreover, a decrease of Proteus and Blautia producta, and the increment of Parabacteroides, Mogibacteriaceae, Bacteroides eggerthi, Bacteroides plebeius, Ruminococcus bromii, and BBacteroidesovatus were associated with remission of the patient’s condition. FMT results in a long-term response in mild UC, while in the moderate form there is probably need for multiple FMT administrations. FMT leads to a decrease in potential pathogens and an increase in microorganisms correlated to remission status.

IntroductionModern clinical narcology searches for anti-craving programs to overcome psychoactive substances (PAS) pathological addiction with bio-adaptive regulation of systems (BARS).Aims and objectivesTo develop computer modified biofeedback program integrated with Luscher test.MethodTwenty-two PAS addicts who were undergoing biofeedback modified psycho-training were examined. Computer rheoencephalogram (REG) was used as an external monitoring module.ResultsTechnologically novel biofeedback computer modification was developed with preceding Luscher computer testing for determination of the individual preference colour and the colour producing individual unpleasant associations in respondents. Consequently, biofeedback program was corrected differentially by changing standard colour templates for those personified on monitor. Cerebral hemodynamics condition transferred to individually designed for a particular respondent colour registers is used as a homeostatic parameter reflecting alcohol craving presence/absence: in case of the disordered REG parameters the signal reflects the respondent's unpleasant (negative) colour, and with no craving the screen is filled with positive, pleasant, favourite colour. During BARS auto-training the respondents’ skills to mediate present subjective clinical PAS craving manifestations with unpleasant colour and the experimental auto-training method have been mastered, and those psycho emotional states which displace PAS craving symbolic colour from the screen are selected, and it is substituted with favourite colour (symbol of healthy mode of life motivations).ConclusionsUsage of combined BARS biofeedback improved effectiveness of the training and allowed to objectivize and control the condition of the patient getting reliable visual and digital information about either regress or activation of PAS craving and potential relapse of addictive behaviour.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Background: Due to factors such as silk sequence, purification, degradation, morphology and functionalization, each silk variant should be individually tested for potential toxicity. Aim:   In vivo toxicological evaluation of the previously characterized bioengineered H2.1MS1 spider silk particles that can deliver chemotherapeutics to human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive breast cancer. Materials & methods: Silk nanoparticles (H2.1MS1 and control MS1) were administered intravenously to mice, and then the organismal response was assessed. Several parameters of acute and subchronic toxicity were analyzed, including animal mortality and behavior, nanosphere biodistribution, and histopathological analysis of internal organs. Also, the complete blood count, as well as the concentration of biochemical parameters and cytokines in the serum, were examined. Results & conclusion: No toxicity of the systemically administrated silk nanosphere was observed, indicating their potential application in biomedicine.

ABSTRACT Objective: To compare the general clinical conditions and oral alterations, and also evaluate the prosthesis, in subjects diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease (AD) or Parkinson's disease (PD), attended at two geriatric centers in the city of Fortaleza - Ceará. Methods: 70 patients were analyzed (between 57 to 91 years) with AD and PD, through evaluation of neurological medical records and oral clinical examination. Variables as sex, age, race, comorbidities, oral manifestations and prosthetic conditions were observed. A total of 20 elderly patients without neurological disease consisted the control group (CG). Fisher's exact test and Kruskal-Wallis were used as statistical analysis. Results: In both groups, blood hypertension was the most frequent comorbidity. As for the oral examination in the group with AD, it was observed that 54.2% had periodontal disease, 34.2% caries. Similar results were found in PD patients (31.4%; 22.8% - respectively). However, no difference was observed between the groups, as the systemic and oral manifestations in both geriatric centers (p> 0.05). Was identified more than half of the subjects (57.7%) using dentures, and 86.5% of these had become maladaptive, with some kind of defect. There was statistical difference in the presence of associated oral pathology, denture stomatitis, between dementia and control group (p = 0.0213). Conclusion: Elderly patients with AD and PD have poor oral health, as well as those without neurodegenerative diseases. However, have more defects and disorders associated with the use of removable dentures.

Mental imagery refers to the experience of perception in the absence of external sensory input. Deficits in the ability to generate mental imagery or to distinguish it from actual sensory perception are linked to neurocognitive conditions such as dementia and schizophrenia, respectively. However, the importance of mental imagery to psychiatry extends beyond neurocognitive impairment. Mental imagery has a stronger link to emotion than verbal-linguistic cognition, serving to maintain and amplify emotional states, with downstream impacts on motivation and behavior. As a result, anomalies in the occurrence of emotion-laden mental imagery has transdiagnostic significance for emotion, motivation, and behavioral dysfunction across mental disorders. This review aims to demonstrate the conceptual and clinical significance of mental imagery in psychiatry through examples of mood and anxiety disorders, self-harm and suicidality, and addiction. We contend that focusing on mental imagery assessment in research and clinical practice can increase our understanding of the cognitive basis of psychopathology in mental disorders, with the potential to drive the development of algorithms to aid treatment decision-making and inform transdiagnostic treatment innovation.

Overthe last two decades historians of early modern Europe have adopted the paradigm of confessionalization to describe the religious, political, and cultural changes that occurred in the two centuries following the Reformation.1As an explanatory model confessionalization has often been portrayed as the religious and ecclesiastical parallel to the secular and political process of social discipline, as formulated by Gerhard Oestreich.2In its simplest form, the process of confessional and social discipline is depicted as hierarchical and unidirectional: the impulse to discipline and control came from the secular and ecclesiastical authorities, and the laity, particularly the peasants at the bottom of the hierarchy, had little possibility of exerting counterpressures on those seeking to shape their beliefs and behavior. The inevitable result of the disciplinary process was the gradual suppression of popular culture and the imposition of new standards of belief and behavior on the subjects of the territorial state.
