Past research has found that a perceived meaning in life can act as a protective factor against adverse mental health symptomology, while also providing coping resources to buffer against the impact of negative life events. The current research investigated how the impact of self-perceived meaning in life as well as its predictors interact with stressors and worry related to the COVID-19 pandemic. We collected survey based data (n = 260) from Australian participants during the pandemic, measuring their meaning in life, orientation to differing life goals and COVID-19 related stressors via the impact of events scale. We found that meaning in life predicted less stress and worry associated with COVID-19. We also found that intrinsic based aspirations related positively to meaning in life within this context whereas extrinsic based goals related negatively to it, although these aspirations were not significant in reducing the stressors associated with COVID-19. These results reinforce past findings that meaning in life can effectively buffer against the impact of negative life events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. They also suggest that intrinsic based aspirations centred on relationships and self-acceptance may be an important mechanism in how people choose to pursue life meaning during uncertain life events.

The study investigated the impact of mandatory work from home due COVID-19 on personal and professional lives of people with different demographics. Statistical analysis of an online survey data (N=237) reveals that the impact on personal life dimensions—healthy lifestyle, family bonding, and physical stress—does not differ across people within different demographics. However, impact on emotional well-being is sensitive to gender and industry groups. Family size is also an important demographic factor impacted upon personal life dimensions. Professional dimensions related to work productivity and adopting new ways of working does not differ across demographics except for occupational role. Dimensions related to new skill development and change in professional attitude does differ across occupational roles. The study concludes by stating future research directions for mandatory work from home situation, and prescription to post-COVID-19 strategies for organizations.

Abstract: This study analyzes factors that may influence the expectations of practicing future sports. Among these factors, the motivation and resistance towards the practice of physical activity and sports from 300 students of the Central University of Ecuador are analysed. The metaphorical constructions of the students are also interpreted in relation to the impact that the physical activity and sports -PAS has in their personal lives. The metaphorical constructions of the students, in relation to the meaning that the PAS represents in their personal life are also considered and the students’ perception of their Physical activity and Sports teachers also is requested. Finally, the expectations of PAS practice that they express are taken into account. The methodology is qualitative with an interpretative approach. The data collection technique is an interview that allows you to understand the problem from the perspective of its protagonists. In the data processing, the Aquad 6 computer program is used, which allows the analysis of the narratives through categories and codes. The results show that motivation exceeds resistance, and that the lack of time is its great difficulty to practice. In the study of metaphors, the level of satisfaction indicated, coincides with the metaphors of the value of PAS in personal life as a source of well-being and health. The findings show high expectations which could be correlated with the positive satisfactions in practice, the image of the teaching staff and the vital relevance they attach to the PAS.Resumen: Esta investigación analiza factores que pueden influir en las expectativas de práctica deportiva futura. Específicamente, se analizan las motivaciones y resistencias hacia la práctica de actividad física y deportiva de 300 estudiantes de la Universidad Central del Ecuador. Asimismo, se analizan las construcciones metafóricas de los estudiantes en relación al sentido que la actividad física y el deporte- AFD representa en su vida personal. Estos resultados se relacionan con la percepción que los estudiantes tienen de su profesorado de Actividad Física y Deportiva y con la representación metafórica de la imagen del profesor de AFD que se les solicita. Finalmente, se analizan las expectativas de práctica de AFD que manifiestan. La metodología es cualitativa con un enfoque interpretativo. La recogida de datos se registra mediante una entrevista que permite comprender la problemática desde la perspectiva de sus protagonistas. En el procesamiento de datos se utiliza el programa informático Aquad 6, que posibilita el análisis de las narrativas a través de categorías y códigos. Los resultados evidencian que la afección supera a la resistencia, que la falta de tiempo es su mayor dificultad para la práctica. En el estudio de metáforas, las satisfacciones señaladas, la salud y la satisfacción en la práctica, coinciden con las imágenes del valor de la AFD en su vida personal como fuente de bienestar y salud. La opinión sobre el profesorado es positiva y la imagen metafórica muestra una visión idealizada del profesor en el que quieren convertirse. Los hallazgos muestran altas expectativas lo que podría correlacionarse con las positivas satisfacciones en la práctica, la imagen del profesorado y la vital relevancia que conceden a la AFD.

ABSTRACTBackground:To estimate the impact of comorbid diabetes on caregiver stress in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients from the Impact of Cholinergic Treatment Use (ICTUS) study.Methods:Using the Data from the ICTUS study, diabetes mellitus (DM) was recorded at baseline and caregiver burden was assessed twice per year using the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) scale. The three-factorial model of ZBI (the effect on the social and personal life of caregivers, the psychological burden and the feelings of guilt) was adopted. Linear mixed models were used to examine the relation between DM and the scores of ZBI.Results:The present analyses were conducted on 1,264 AD subjects. A total of 156 patients (12.3%) had DM with taking antidiabetic medication and/or self-report of a history. At baseline, the caregivers of patients with or without DM had similar ZBI global scores and similar scores of three different factors of ZBI. Unadjusted and adjusted models both indicated that ZBI global score increased over a 24-month follow-up without significant effect of DM. Similarly, unadjusted model showed that DM was not determining any significant difference in the score of any factor. However, adjusted model indicated that in diabetic patients, the scores of the social and personal life of caregivers and the psychological burden increased more slowly than those in non-diabetic patients (p = 0.04 and 0.01, respectively).Conclusions:DM may affect the caregivers’ daily social and personal life and psychological burden in AD patients. It is necessary for further research.

Background: Depression is common in stoke survivors and their caregivers. Given the interdependent relationship among the members of dyads in post-stroke management, improving depression in dyads may depend on their partner’s characteristics. Self-esteem, optimism, and perceived control, all known to be associated with depression in an individual, may also contribute to their partner’s depression. The purpose of this study was to examine whether an individual’s self-esteem, optimism and perceived control predict their own, as well as their partner’s depression. Methods: A total of 112 ischemic stroke survivor-spouse dyads completed surveys in which depression, self-esteem, optimism, and perceived control were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire, the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale, the Revised Life Orientation Test, and the Sense of Control Scale. Multilevel modeling, actor-partner interdependence model (APIM) regression with distinguishable dyad was used to determine influences on depression within the dyad. In APIM, actor effect is the impact of a person’s factors on their own depression and partner effect is the impact of a person’s factors on their partner’s depression. Results: As shown in Figure1, individuals with lower self-esteem, optimism, and perceived control had higher level of depression. Spouses who had stroke survivors with low self-esteem had higher levels of depression. Stroke survivors who had spouses with lower self-esteem and optimism had higher levels of depression. Conclusion: Stroke survivor self-esteem and spouse self-esteem and optimism influenced their partner’s depression. These findings suggest that dyadic intervention is needed to improve depression for the dyads and that depressed stroke survivors may benefit from interventions that improve spousal self-esteem and optimism.

Background: Healthcare staff in modern metropolitan settings face higher rates of burnout characterized by emotional stress and difficulty coping with not only building work pressure but also balancing personal life stress. The aim of this pilot study was to see the impact of a yogic lifestyle, incorporating diet, exercise and mindfulness activities based on tantra yoga. Materials & methods: Fifteen participants were recruited and completed three or more of the interventions. Results: The 4-week pilot study showed increased self-compassion and decreased stress among the participants.

"We are all going through a difficult period, called into question by so many questions: the COVID 19 pandemic. Without a doubt, this pandemic has had and still has many implications both in the personal life of each of us and in our professional life. In addition to the fact that this virus affects our health, professional life has also been put to the test. The education system was not bypassed by challenges, therefore this period proved to be extremely demanding, with many implications on the instructive-educational activity. Preschool education has not been exempted from the impact of the changes that have occurred as a result of the outbreak of the pandemic. Teachers in the preschool education system have faced many difficulties in terms of teaching in the group. The instructive-educational process suffered in the context of the pandemic, being many variables to consider: the age peculiarities of preschoolers, the ways in which the teaching activities can be carried out through the platforms, the quality of the educational act through them, the lack of training of the teachers in this respect, the availability of parents to be able to supervise the preschooler during the synchronous online activities, etc. The present study presents the results of the application of a questionnaire addressed to teachers in preschool education, on the territory of Romania, which highlights the implications of the pandemic on the instructive-educational process in kindergarten. This study explores the impact of 3-weeks intervention based on resilience as a psychosocial skill to enhance the levels of optimism, self-esteem, and resilience as well as the correlation between these variables. Participants were selected randomly from the Law College studying in Undergraduate Program. The intact group received 3 two-hours weekly sessions. Measures of Life Orientation Test (Revised), resilience scale and self-esteem scale were administered to gauge pre-post intervention. Data analysis indicated a significantly higher resilience score, moderately high score on the self-esteem score and significant high-rise on levels of optimism providing a reasonable positive impact. The findings of the study clearly show that resilience intervention is effective to boost self-esteem, resilience and positive life orientation.
