Athletes, like all people, have special nutritional needs based on their age, lifestyle, health status, level of physical activity, physical conditioning, and type of sport. The diets of many athletes are inadequate due to overly restrictive eating habits, nutrition misinformation, dietary fads, and/or obsession with weight and food. There is a growing need for sports nutrition counseling and education to help athletes improve their eating habits. However, before attempting to develop intervention strategies, sports nutritionists should assess the metabolic changes that take place during exercise and how these changes affect nutrition status. In addition, it is important to consider how psychosocial factors may influence an athlete's eating habits and his/her ability to make positive changes. A two-pronged model is introduced that can be used as a guide for the practitioner in interpreting relevant data and integrating physiological and psychological considerations for the design of individualized nutrition care plans for athletes.

Abstract Objectives The study was conducted to evaluate patient satisfaction and view quality of care and completed nutrition care services they received before and after bariatric surgery. Methods A survey was conducted using a self-completed questionnaire and was administered to bariatric patients. Survey assessed patients’ decision-making for bariatric surgery, patients’ view of their experience of the received nutrition care and the empowerment to follow the prescribed plan. Results Thirty-five patients (30 female and 4 males) completed the questionnaire. The majority of patients were Saudi national (88.6%, n = 31). More patients were holding a university degree (65.7%, n = 23). Bariatric surgery preferences was mostly selected by patients (88.6%, n = 31) with no shared decision-making with surgeons or family members. The decision to undergo bariatric surgery was more likely to be related to health risks issues (65.7%, n = 23) and not for beauty purposes. Patients (34.3%, n = 12) never be seen by a dietitian either before or after surgery, 20%, n = 7 were only seen before surgery or after surgery (17%, n = 6). Nutritional care plans were well explained by a dietitian (RD) to 77.8% of patients (n = 21),13% (n = 3) reported that RDs’ answers to their queries were confusing. Patients 85% (n = 23) find Rds as very cooperative and interactive when manage and plan their nutritional needs. Delivered information are clear and understandable by 87% of patients and all responded patients felt that they were treated with respect by dietitians. Nearly 61% (n = 17) reported that RDs’ involvement in their nutrition care was excellent and 57.1% had excellent overall experience. Twelve patients reported seeing a dietitian throughout their treatment. However, 6 of them saw the dietitian once every month and the rest used to see the dietitian once every 3 months. Conclusions The decision makers including and all Rds will benefit from the results of this study to improve the outcome measures of dietetics services in the scope of bariatric surgery. Background: Underweight is a public health problem caused by many factors. The prevalence of underweight in East Java in 2016 was 17.3%, wich was higher than the program’s targetted (12.9%). Breast milk is the best food to support the growth and development of the baby. Coverage of Exclusive Breast Milk in East Java in 2015 decreased (68.8%), compared to 2014 (72.89%). Early supplementary feeding in infants under 6 months may affect nutritional status. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship of Exclusive Breast milk with the incidence of underweight in infants aged 0-23 months in East Java Province in 2016. Method: This study is a secondary data analysis of Nutrition Status Monitoring in East Java Province. The study population was all babies in East Java. Total sample is 4738. The data were analyzed using Chi-square test and Logistic Regression, with 95% CI (α = 0.05). Results: The results showed there was a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding only from birth until before the last 24 hours in infants aged 0-23 months with the incidence of underweight, with (p=0.000010;OR=1.654;95%CI=1.319–2.052), there was a significant  relationship of first to provide a food other than breast milk in infants aged 0-23 months  with the occurrence of underweight, (p = 0.000;OR=0.272; 95%CI=0.217–0.341).Conclusion: In conclusion, breastfeeding only in infants from birth until before the last 24 hours and first provide food other than breast milk in infants aged 0-23 months associated with underweight. Because breast milk is sufficient nutritional needs of infants aged 0-6 months.ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Masalah gizi kurang merupakan masalah kesehatan masyarakat yang disebabkan oleh banyak faktor. ASI merupakan makanan terbaik untuk mendukung pertumbuhan dan perkembangan bayi. Cakupan ASI Eksklusif di Jawa Timur tahun 2015 menurun (68,8%), dibandingkan tahun 2014 (72,89%). This study investigated whether university students following a vegetarian diet differed from non-vegetarian students in nutrient intake, biochemical, hematological and blood mineral profile of nutritionally relevant elements. In total, 107 students from a university, following either a non-vegetarian or a vegetarian diet for at least 1 year prior to the study, were recruited in two stages, setting up two experiments. Nutrient intake (experiment 1, n = 58), and biochemical and hematological parameters (experiment 2, n = 49) were evaluated. TXRF spectroscopy was used for determination of trace elements in whole blood. Vegetarians showed differences in nutrient intake, mainly higher consumption of unsaturated fatty acids and fiber. No significant differences in the biochemical and hematological parameters were found. The prevalence of abnormal parameters in a considerable number of vegetarians and non-vegetarians were found, mainly regarding high density lipoprotein (HDL-c) and total cholesterol (TC). TXRF spectroscopy proved to be a simple tool for determining nutrition-relevant elements (K, Fe, Cu and Zn) in blood samples. The high incidence of abnormal parameters, regardless of the dietary pattern, raises concern about the high prevalence of bad eating habits among young university students. Particularly for the vegetarian students, these results may partly counteract the beneficial lifestyle of a vegetarian diet evidenced by previous studies. It is important for students to be aware of its potential nutritional limitations. In this context, food and nutrition education programs in the academic context could contribute to set up autonomous and healthy subjects, regardless of the diet chosen.

ABSTRACT Objective Aimed at analysing the symbolic dimension of prenatal nutritional care in diabetes. Methods Participants were 17 puerperal adults diagnosed with previous or gestational diabetes. Participant observation and semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data. The data were interpreted according to an adaptation of Bardin’s Thematic Content Analysis. Results The main meaning of diabetes was the need for changing eating habits. Nutritional care based on the Traditional Method or the Carbohydrate Counting Method was understood as an opportunity for dietary re-education. Weight loss was considered desirable by some participants, albeit against the advice of nutritionists. Pregnant women adopted the standard meal plan, rarely used the food substitution list, and reported occasional dietary transgressions, self-allowed in small portions. Foods containing sucrose were perceived as less harmful to health than added sugars. Conclusion Each pregnant woman experienced prenatal nutritional care in diabetes not as a dietary method, but as part of her lifestyle.

Mastitis is an infection of the breast that generally occurs in conjunction with lactation which often occurs in nursing mothers. Blockage of the milk ducts and infection can cause mastitis. Mastitis will result in an increase in the nutritional needs of nursing mothers and disruption of the breastfeeding process so that it has an impact on the nutritional status of the baby. The purpose of writing is to provide a comprehensive description of nutritional care for mastitis mothers using the literature review method. From the study, it is known the importance of proper nutritional care for mothers with mastitis in the form of assessment, nutritional diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation as a continuous cycle to overcome mastitis problems in collaboration with the nutrition care team. The conclusion is that collaboration with other health professionals has started since the nutritional assessment was carried out, so that the management of mastitis cases can be more optimal. Abstrak Mastitis adalah infeksi pada payudara yang umumnya terjadi bersamaan dengan laktasi. Penyumbatan pada saluran ASI dan adanya infeksi dapat menimbulkan mastitis. Mastitis akan mengakibatkan meningkatkan kebutuhan gizi pada ibu menyusui dan terganggunya proses menyusui sehingga berdampak pada status gizi bayi. Asuhan gizi yang tepat pada ibu dengan mastitis dalam bentuk  pengkajian, diagnosis gizi, intervensi, monitoring dan evaluasi sebagai siklus yang terus menerus dapat mengatasi masalah mastitis dengan kolaborasi bersama tim asuhan gizi. Kolaborasi dengan profesi kesehatan lainnya telah dimulai sejak pengkajian gizi dilakukan, sehingga penatalaksanaan kasus mastitis dapat lebih komprehensif.

Abstract Background The rapid changes in eating habits and lifestyles in Kenya have resulted to the overweight/obesity transition. Students are likely to make poor food choices which may affect their nutrition status during the beginning of college and this may continue throughout their life. This study aimed to establish the dietary practices, assess nutrition status based on body mass index and the relationship between dietary diversity and nutrition status of female undergraduate students at Kenyatta University, Kenya.Method s: The study adopted a cross-sectional analytical design involving sample of 422 female undergraduate students randomly selected from Kenyatta University. Minimum Dietary Diversity – Women and Food Frequency Questionnaire were used to assess the dietary practices of the female students. Weight and height were measured to assess the nutrition status of the female students.Results The results showed that 64.0% of the participants had consumed ≥ 5 food groups while 36% had consumed <5 food groups over a period of 24 hours. In terms of nutrition status, 68.4% of the participants had normal Body Mass Index while 23.9% were overweight, 5.55% were underweight and 2.3% were obese. Minimum Dietary Diversity – Women was significantly associated with nutrition status (p=0.044).Conclusion The results illustrated unhealthy eating habits and sub-optimal nutrition status among a significant number of the female students. Policy makers should scale up interventions that would help improve dietary practices of women of reproductive age particularly university students.

Anemia umumnya dijumpai pada golongan rawan gizi yaitu ibu hamil, ibu menyusui, anak balita serta anak sekolah. Anemia atau gizi yang buruk pada ibu menyusui akan menyebabkan gangguan nutrisi dan produksi air susu ibu (ASI) menjadi kurang sehingga menimbulkan gangguan pertumbuhan bayi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui korelasi antara status gizi ibu menyusui dengan kecukupan ASI. Status gizi diukur dengan 3 indikator: IMB, LILA, dan Hb. Sedang kecukupan ASI diukur dengan indikator: tanda kecukupan ASI, BB bayi sebelum dan sesudah menyusu serta peningkatan BB bayi setelah 1 bulan. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan longitudinal (cohort). Hasil uji analisis statistik dengan mann whitney u test didapatkan tingkat signifikansi 95% (p = 0,009). Hasil uji analisis ditemukan tidak ada korelasi antara status gizi ibu menyusui (IMB dan LILA) dengan kecukupan ASI. Tetapi terdapat korelasi antara kadar Hb dengan kecukupan ASI. Kesimpulannya bahwa ibu menyusui dengan gizi buruk akan mempengaruhi kecukupan ASI karena tubuh membutuhkan zat gizi yang cukup untuk memproduksi ASI, tetapi tubuh tidak dapat memenuhi sehingga zat gizi tersebut diambil dari tubuh ibu dan berakibat makin lama ibu akan mengalami gizi yang bertambah buruk.Kata kunci: status nutrisi, ibu menyusui, kecukupan ASIABSTRACTProblem of gizi in Indonesia and developing countries in general still predominated by problem less energi protein, iron anaemia, trouble effect of iodine insuffiency, lacking of vitamin of A and problem of obesitas especially in metropolis. Anaemia at mother suckle will cause trouble of nutrisi production and irrigate mother milk become less. this clear generate growth trouble for baby which in giving irrigate mother milk. At mother with ugly gizi generally produce slimmer irrigate mother milk in number, while the qualities of depend on food which is eating. Generally there are degradation of fat rate, vitamin and carbohydrate. This study aims to know the relationship between the status of breastfeeding mothers with the adequacy of breastfeeding. This research is analytical research with longitudinal design up (cohort). Based on the results of test statistics with the mann whitney u test on the 95% level of confidence between the nutritional status of breastfeeding mothers with the adequacy of breastfeeding showed a significant relationship (p = 0,009). This explains that breastfeeding mothers who have poor nutrition affect the adequacy milk product. With the results of the research above, it is expected that the health through the village midwifes for more attention on the status of maternal nutrition on the nutritional needs of breastfeeding so that breastfeeding mothers can be improved by providing more counseling related to maternal nutrition and breastfeeding, such as the provision of vitamin tablets to the blood.Keywords: nutritional status, mother suckle, breastfeeding

We propose a Healthy Eating Habits Support System (HEHSS) which considers user taste preferences and nutritional balance. The proposed system comprises a Nutritional Management System (NMS) and a Kansei Retrieval System (KRS). The NMS generates nutritionally balanced menus using the tabu search method. The KRS learns user taste preferences through interaction with a user, and then uses this information to recommend appropriate menus for that user from those generated by the NMS. Consequently, the HEHSS recommends menus that consider nutritional balance and match the user’s taste preferences. Simulation results demonstrate that the HEHSS recommended menus that satisfied nutritional needs and learned a user’s taste preferences with greater than 80% accuracy when we focused on liked and disliked tastes after continuous use for a long period (approximately 2 months).
