Background:Immunoassays are used to measure a range of analytes in clinical laboratories. Rheumatoid factor (RF) and other patient antibodies, such as heterophilic antibodies, can bind animal antibodies used in immunoassays and cause erroneous results, which may lead to misdiagnosis and incorrect treatment of patients.1Objectives:To assess RF reactivity to animal antibodies and to test if selected commercial immunoassays are vulnerable to interference from RF-positive sera.Methods:Samples from 124 patients with RF-positive rheumatoid arthritis (RA) included in the Norwegian Very Early Arthritis Clinic (NOR-VEAC)-cohort2were included in the study. Samples from patients with seronegative RA (n=51) and psoriatic arthritis (n=15) from the same cohort were included as controls. Reactivity to mouse IgG1, mouse IgG2a, rabbit IgG, bovine IgG, sheep/goat IgG and human IgG was analysed using in-house interference assays detecting antibodies able to cross-link the animal or human antibodies. RF-positive sera with strong reactivity to mouse IgG1 were selected for testing in three commercial immunoassays previously shown to be susceptible to interference from heterophilic antibodies; Abbott Architect Total β-hCG assay, BioRad 27-plex cytokine assays and Roche Elecsys Soluble Transferrin Receptor (sTfR).3Samples were tested before and after addition of blocking aggregated murine IgG1 (interference protection). Interference was defined as a discrepancy between the unblocked and blocked samples likely to influence clinical interpretation of the results and exceeding the reported assay imprecision with a considerable margin.Results:We found considerably stronger reactivity toward animal antibodies, particularly mouse IgG1 and rabbit IgG, in sera from RF-positive RA-patients compared to the control group (Fig. 1a-b). In the Abbott β-hCG assay, interference was shown in 6 out of the 30 tested sera (Fig. 2a). In the 27-plex cytokine assays, interference was demonstrated in 7 out of 10 tested sera (for 3-14 analytes). Furthermore, 17 out of the 27 cytokine assays were found to be susceptible to interference (Fig. 2b). Interference was shown in 2 out of 33 samples in the sTfR assay. In unblocked samples, sTfR values were 8.1 and 8.2 mg/L, vs. 4.2 mg/L and 6.0 mg/L in blocked samples, respectively. Additionally, 3 sera had >25% relative difference, but the results were within the reference range.Figure. 1(a-b)Figure. 2(a-b)Conclusion:Reactivity to animal antibodies used in immunoassays is common in sera from RF-positive RA patients and are associated with falsely elevated results in commercial immunoassays. In our cohort, interference was demonstrated in a considerable proportion of samples in the Abbott hCG and 27-plex cytokine assays. Physicians as well as researchers, laboratories and assay manufacturers must be alert to the risk of falsely elevated test results in RF positive RA patients, particularly when results are unexpected or discordant with clinical findings. Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by relative or absolute deficiency of insulin, resulting in glucose intolerance.Objectives: The present study was planned to see the associations of serum uric acid with positive Rheumatoid factor in type 2 male diabetes mellitus patients. Methodology: This case control study was carried out at the department of Biochemistry at Ibrahim Medical College, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The duration of the study was from June 2015 to June 2016 for a period of one year. In this present study, male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were taken as case group and age and sex matched healthy male were taken as control group. Rheumatoid factor was measured from the blood of all case and control group respondents. Others blood para meters were also measured for the correlation with the diabetes mellitus patients.Results: In this present study, 110 male patients presented with type 2 diabetes mellitus were recruited as case and age and sex matched healthy male were recruited as control. More rheumatoid factor positive in type 2 DM male patients with the uric acid range between 6.5 to 9.5 mg/dL. The number of patients was 5 out of total 9 rheumatoid factor positive cases. In this study serum uric acid was significantly correlated with rheumatoid factor in type 2 male diabetic patients. Rheumatoid factor positive cases were taking insulin among 9 and it was statistically significantly associated (p<0.001). Conclusion: In this study serum uric acid is significantly associated with positive rheumatoid factor in type 2 male diabetic patients.Journal of Current and Advance Medical Research 2017;4(2):58-62

The research on the sterlet roe artificial insemination using cryopreserved sperm was carried out in the research base of the RAS Southern Scientific Centre (the Rostov region). Reproductive cells (including cryopreserved cells), larvae, sterlet fry ( Acipenser ruthenus Linnaeus, 1758) were taken as an object of research. A half of the roe (1.7 kg) taken from female starlet was inseminated by native sperm (control group); another half was inseminated by defrosted sperm of two males, which was stored in liquid nitrogen at -196ºC during 3 years (pilot group). Incubation lasted 5 days at water temperature 14.5-18.2ºC, with daily fluctuations of temperature 1.9ºC. Roe insemination in the control group made 90%, in the pilot group - 70%. Roe embryonic growth in the control group was faster, but embryogenesis duration in the pilot group met the standard time limits. Hatching prolarvae in the control group started one hour earlier, than in the pilot group; it made 75% and 60% of all incubated roe, correspondingly. Waste during the period of larvae maturing before they pass to mixed feeding was negligible - 2% in the control group and 3.4% in the pilot group. According to the test results, "open field" of reactivity of the central nervous system in the pilot group fry didn’t change from the control group fry, but more active response to stimuli was noted in the pilot group, which is very important for fry adaptation to the conditions in natural water basins. It was established that sterlet offspring obtained with use of defrosted sexual cells does not differ from the offspring obtained using native sperm and has higher morphometric characteristics. The test results prove the possibility and practicability of using sexual cells stored in liquid nitrogen for artificial restoration and formation of sturgeon fish broodstocks.

This study examines the generalization of instruction in foreign language learning. A group of Japanese learners of English served as participants and received special instruction in the structure of genitive relative clauses. The participants were given a pre-test on combining two sentences into one containing a genitive relative clause wherein the relativized noun phrase following the genitive marker "whose" is either the subject, direct object, or object of preposition. Based on the TOEFL and the pre-test results, four equal groups were formed; three of these served as experimental groups, and one as the control group. Each experimental group was given instruction on the formation of only one type of genitive relative clause. The participants were then given two post-tests. The results indicated that the generalization of learning begins from structures that are typologically more marked genitive relative clauses to those structures that are typologically less marked, and not vice versa.

AbstractIn Bell’s palsy, electrodiagnosis by electroneurography (ENoG) is widely used to predict a patient’s prognosis. The therapeutic options for patients with poor prognostic results remain controversial. Here, we investigated whether early intervention with intratympanic steroid therapy (ITST) is an effective treatment for Bell’s palsy patients with poor electrodiagnostic test results (≤ 10% electroneurography value). Patients in the concurrent ITST group (n = 8) received the standard systemic dose of prednisolone (410 mg total) and intratympanic dexamethasone (16.5 mg total) and those in the control group (n = 21) received systemic prednisolone at the standard dose or higher (average dose, 605 ± 27 mg). A year after onset, the recovery rate was higher in the ITST group than in the control group (88% vs 43%, P = 0.044). The average House-Brackmann grade was better in the concurrent ITST group (1.13 ± 0.13 vs 1.71 ± 0.16, P = 0.035). Concurrent ITST improves the facial nerve outcome in patients with poor electroneurography test results, regardless of whether equivalent or lower glucocorticoid doses were administered. This may be ascribed to a neuroprotective effect of ITST due to a higher dose of steroid reaching the lesion due to dexamethasone transfer in the facial nerve.

INTRODUCTION: The finishing and polishing phases are essential to improve smoothness and shining on the surface of acrylic resins used to make removable orthodontic appliances. A good surface finishing reduces roughness, which facilitates hygiene, prevents staining and provides greater comfort to the patients. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper was to analyze the changes on surface morphology of acrylic resins during finishing and polishing phases. METHODS: Thirty discs (10 mm in diameter and 5 mm in length) were made with acrylic resin and randomly divided into ten groups. The control group did not receive any treatment while the other groups received gradual finishing and polishing. The last group received the entire finishing and polishing procedures. Surface morphology was qualitatively analyzed through scanning electron microscopy and quantitatively analyzed through a laser profilometer test. RESULTS: The acrylic resin surfaces without treatment showed bubbles which were not observed in the subsequent phases. Wearing out with multilaminated burs, finishing with wood sandpaper and finishing with water sandpaper resulted in surfaces with decreasing irregularities. The surfaces that were polished with pumice and with low abrasive liquids showed high superficial smoothness. CONCLUSION: Highly smooth acrylic resin surfaces can be obtained after mechanical finishing and polishing performed with multilaminated burs, wood sandpaper, water sandpaper, pumice and low abrasive liquids.

Intravesical prostaglandin E2 is effective in the recovery of spontaneous voiding after transvaginal reconstruction of the pubocervical fascia and short arm sling according to Lahodny. The aim of the study was to compare the effects of intravesical prostaglandin E2 in the prevention of urinary retention after transvaginal reconstruction of the pubocervical fascia and short arm sling according to Lahodny. STUDY DESIGN: From November 1996 to June 1999 fifty women underwent the Lahodny procedure for moderate/severe cystocele and stress urinary incontinence. Women were randomly assigned to 1 of the 2 study groups: intravesical prostaglandin E2 versus controls. Data obtained were analyzed with the Student t test and the Fisher exact test. RESULTS: Two patients of the treatment group had to be excluded from the study, one because of the wrong measurement of the post-voidal residual volume and another due to a fastidious burning sensation which appeared immediately after prostaglandin instillation and required the suspension of the treatment. No other side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or hyperthermia were observed. Patients who underwent the prostaglandin E2 treatment showed a recovery of spontaneous voiding after 7.9&plusmn;6.7 days, whereas this interval was significantly longer in the control group, being 12.9&plusmn;9.7 days (p=0.04, Two tailed Unpaired Student's T test). CONCLUSION: The effectiveness and the low associated morbidity mark the treatment with intravesical prostaglandin E2 useful in the recovery of normal voiding after transvaginal pubocervical fascia reconstruction and short arm sling with the procedure according to Lahodny.

AbstractA total of 104 children aged between 41 and 47 months were selected to study the relationship between language and false belief understanding. Participants were assigned to four different training conditions: discourse, labelling, control (all with deceptive objects), and sentential complements (involving non-deceptive objects). Post-test results showed an improvement in children’s false belief understanding in the discourse and the labelling conditions, but not in the sentential complements with non-deceptive objects or the control group. Furthermore, the most remarkable improvement in false belief understanding occurred in the labelling group. These results suggest that some types of linguistic experience promote the development of false belief understanding, provided that differing perspectives are confronted.

This research aims to determine the effect of mind mapping learning methods on the basic laws of chemistry toward learning outcomes of students of class X MIPA in SMA Negeri 2 Langowan. The sample used in this study were all students of class X MIPA of SMA Negeri 2 Langowan. This research uses an experimental method, with the research method used is Quasi Experiment  with Nonequivalent Control Group Design design. The research data were obtained from post-test results. Obtained the average value of student learning outcomes Experiment class is 85. The results showed the value of tcount = 15.7> ttable = 2.21, so H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. Based on the results of the research it can be concluded that there is an influence on student learning outcomes on the basic laws of chemistry using mind mapping learning methods.

   This study is planned to find relationship between interleukin-33 (IL-33) with its receptor interleukin-1 receptor 4 (IL-1R4), and assurance IL-33/IL-1R4 proportion as biomarker to atherosclerosisin rheumatoid arthritis (RA) Iraqi females patients with and without dyslipidemia. This study was attempted at Baghdad Teaching Hospital included 60 females patients with RA that were isolated into: 30 patients with dyslipidemia(G2), 30 patients without dyslipidemia(G3) and 30 individual as control group (G1) .Patients were experiencing treatment by methortexiene medication, analyzed by rheumatoid factor(RF) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate( ESR) tests. All patients and control groups age ranged from (30-55) years. The results show an increase in ESR, RF, IL-33, and IL-1R4 levels. In addition to decrease in IL-33/IL-1R4 ratio in the two patients groups when contrasted and control group. The momentum examine inferred that the level of ESR, and  IL-33 in RA Iraqi females  patients with dyslipidemia were higher than that in RA Iraqi females patients without dyslipidemia, while the level of IL-33/IL-1R4 ratio in RA Iraqi females patients with dyslipidemia was lower than that in RA Iraqi females patients without dyslipidemia patients; in this manner the IL-33/IL-1R4 ratio may be used as a biomarker in diagnostic early porn to atherosclerosis in RA females patients with dyslipidemia
