Although e-commerce and related technologies are regarded as tourism business' natural partners, opportunities emanating from their use may not be fully realized unless users are equipped with required information and communication technologies (ICT) knowledge. A need for capacity building is thus critical to providing developing countries with opportunities to capitalize on the opportunities offered by ICT. This study was carried in Zanzibar and Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania to investigate ICT training level and current ICT training needs among the micro-small and medium tourism enterprises (MSMTEs). Using snowballing non-probability sampling technique, data was collected from willing 69 MSMTEs. While quantitative data was analyzed using statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS), descriptive answers were contently summarized. Activities identified include tour operating, souvenirs, Tingatinga drawings, Maasi carvings, boutique selling, hotel operation, animal zoos, backpacking and information services provision. Areas that revealed importance and urgency for training include internet usage, purchasing and selling products via the Internet, basic web designing and maintenance and troubleshooting. Others are basic software applications such as Microsoft word, spreadsheet, report processing and presentation. Need for government support in laying out infrastructure, supportive policies that favor sponsored trainings and subsidized investments in ICT was exposed as important ingredients for tourism competitive advantages.

Green ICT can be considered as the adoption of eco-friendly processes by an organization in its practice of Information and Communication Technologies. The last decade, in particular, has seen profound awareness on the part of individuals as well as organizations in adopting such processes that are environmentally friendly. While automation and related computing activities continue to lead to exponential use of energy quotient, Green ICT continues to chip away at the ‘resigned‘ views of the decision makers to their environmental responsibilities. It is vital today to understand the increasing importance and the context provided by ICT in helping prove the green credentials of an organization. ICT operates at systems and applications level; at the end-user level through the desktops and printers; and at the enterprise level through its data centers, servers and other infrastructure. Green ICT is all about optimization and improvement of the organization’s operational processes without hindering its progress in use of technology. This chapter discusses the context provided by ICT in helping an organization to prove its green credentials. The issues discussed in this chapter include hardware and software implementations, infrastructures, attitudes and policies of decision makers, and how they influence global warming. Therefore, it includes carbon emissions, and the use of software applications in measuring and reporting carbon emissions.

The aim of this chapter is to (1) present a review of some innovative communication technologies in higher education and how these are implemented for organizational, marketing, and learning processes, (2) illustrate how information and communication technologies (ICTs) may drive the introduction and use of inventive activities in education. Financial cutbacks and limited government support for institutions of higher education led to (1) either a withering effect for them that made them shrink or merge in order to survive, or (2) they had to find innovative ways to survive and attract new students and audiences as potential users while making connections with the community and firms. Current trends in higher education institutions (HEIs) are associated with supplying the student with those learning methods that can lead to skills and contribute to his/her creative and individual thought. At the same time, teaching instructors need to be aware of the know-how in the communication and information technology sectors that can be further employed.

This chapter aims to analyze the role that information and communication technologies (ICTs) have played in the processes of adaptation, learning, and tourist reactivation in rural areas, in the context of the pandemic caused by the spread of the zoonotic virus SARS-Cov-2. For this, a case study of the rural tourism offer was developed that includes the experiences of nine community tourism enterprises, settled in indigenous territories of the Central Mexican Highlands. The research approach was qualitative, and it was proposed to systematize the experiences that the enterprises have accumulated throughout the pandemic and during the process of social isolation. It is concluded that the use and exploitation of ICTs in rural areas is still incipient, in terms of their potential as tools for the promotion, marketing, and positioning of rural tourist destinations. It is necessary to overcome the technological gap in the context of the new socioeconomic characteristics that rural tourism will face, many of which will remain in force in the medium and long terms.

Purpose This study aims to investigate the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) on student’s learning primarily concentrating on the following factors: including availability, accessibility and user-ability of using ICT resources. This investigation will highlight the role of ICT in the pedagogical activities of students, especially in their learning. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire was designed to comprehend the questions related to the objectives and a sample of 275 students through convenience sampling technique was selected that was enrolled in various degree programs of the University of the Punjab, Pakistan. Primarily the descriptive analysis was made and data were presented in tabulated form. However, for inferential analysis, the Pearson correlation test was applied to determine the relationship among the dependent and independent variables including (availability, accessibility user-ability and student’s learning) and to test the hypotheses of the study. Findings The findings disclose that students at the University of the Punjab have access to various kinds of ICT applications and resources. Moreover, they have an adequate number of ICT equipment available for their use and they are familiar with various kinds of ICT applications and resources which they use in various educational tasks during their studies. A strong positive linear correlation exists between availability, accessibility and user-ability of using ICT resources and the student’s educational learning. This confirms that ICT plays a significant role in the student’s educational accomplishments. It helps students in searching, retrieving and consulting various types of information sources. It also helps them in completing their educational tasks in a quick manner. Students at all levels also see it as a matter of great importance to acquire ICT-related skills as this can help them to be more productive in their educational accomplishments. Originality/value This study concludes that availability, accessibility, adequacy and user ability to use the ICT resources positively impact students learning. Therefore, it is highly recommended for students to learn ICT-related skills and to make the best use of the different communication technologies in their pedagogical activities. Moreover, if academic institutions in Pakistan give more emphasis on developing ICT-based infrastructure and ICT skilled manpower then this can also bring fruitful results in the learning process of student’s educational endeavors.

The purpose of this article is to approach the educational policies that from the Ministry of Education of the Basque Government support the proposal to promote the development of an inclusive school. Our focus is on the path of these policies over the past ten years. Through the identification and selection of documents of the Ministry of Education, public access, we focus the analysis on the role that is designated in them to Information and Communication Technologies, in a clear commitment to work the social integration of students most vulnerable in the Primary Education Stage. Two experiences help us to value the role that digital technologies can play in the integration of the most disadvantaged groups. It is possible to advance that the result is paradoxical, when the lack of links between information and communication technologies is found, with the majority of these social integration initiatives, although their value is institutionally recognized in many other institutional documents.

Abstract Educational video tutorials are currently modern teaching resources. They are primarily used as a guide when working with various software applications. The tutorials can be produced in high definition, including narration and subtitles. However, creating such a video tutorial is not easy. Students at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies are learning to create these video tutorials. The basis of a tutorial is the creation of a script. The next step is a high quality screen capture, sound recording and subtitle creation. The tutorial can be accompanied by several different audio tracks and subtitles in different languages. Such video tutorial can be then used by foreign students or hearing-impaired students. The tutorial is then exported into a modern format that ensures high image quality and can be played on most devices for video playback. At the Department of Information and Communication Technologies the tutorials are being created mainly for Informatics courses where students work in different and often special software applications.
