Motion capture is a cross-cutting application field developed in recent years, which comprises electronics, communications, control, computer graphics, ergonomics, navigation, and other disciplines. The accurate application of basketball technical movements in the basketball game is very important. Therefore, it is of great significance to capture and standardize athletes’ movements and improve their training. Unfortunately, there are numerous issues in traditional classroom teaching that largely helps to train the athletes. To solve the issues of traditional basketball classroom teaching, a virtual simulation system for students’ sports training is designed in this paper. Firstly, the information of basketball dribbling movement is captured and simulated in three dimensions. Secondly, we compare it with the standard database to judge the irregularities of athletes’ movements, and carry out digital processing on athletes’ movements and skill improvements statistics in combination with system functions. Thirdly, we set up a gradual training cycle. Finally, the Kinect-based capture technology is adopted to obtain the activity information of different joints of the human body. Through processing the motion data, relevant motion analysis data are fed to the established motion model, to realize the comparative analysis of motion pictures. In our experiments, we observed better training of the physical education.

Motion capture technique is motion data processed by a motion sensor and optical equipment tracker record computer. Three-dimensional information is to restore the moving object technology. Application of motion capture technology in sports training, the training into the scientific digital stage update the motion capture technology make it cheaper. The paper studied the technology of Kinect based motion capture, and its application in basketball training. This method has the advantages of simple data processing, high real-time performance and low price etc..

Abstract The growing number of foreign applicants looking forward to getting education in Ukrainian medical universities makes us find the ways how to improve and make effective the pre-professional training system of foreign medical applicants for further education. The article deals with the issues of the history of formation and development of the preprofessional training system of foreign medical applicants in Ukraine. On the ground of the electronic databases of the official websites of higher educational establishments, the data on years of opening first offices of the dean, departments and preparatory faculties for foreign medical applicants in Ukrainian medical universities are analyzed and systematized. Also the data on the setting up preparatory faculties at other universities who carry out licensed training of foreign students of the medical profile are presented. The data on the operating and management of such institutions in the system of the University administration are generalized. It’s revealed that during the years of its functioning the pre-professional training has changed, in particular the system was commercialized and the institutions involved in training foreign applicants have been reorganized. The modern trends in teaching foreign medical students at the preparatory faculties of the Ukrainian medical universities are displayed. Based on the analysis of the data it is concluded that the system of the pre-professional training of foreign medical applicants was set up in the 50s-60s years of the twentieth century. During this time, some positive experience in the preparation of future international medical specialists has been gained. The system of the pre-professional training of foreign medical applicants has been comprehensively improved and an effective system of managing foreign medical applicants has been created.

AbstractThe surgical education environment has been changing significantly due to restricted work hours, limited resources, and increasing public concern for safety and quality, leading to the evolution of simulation-based training in surgery. Of the various simulators, low-fidelity simulators are widely used to practice surgical skills such as sutures because they are portable, inexpensive, and easy to use without requiring complicated settings. However, since low-fidelity simulators do not offer any teaching information, trainees do self-practice with them, referring to textbooks or videos, which are insufficient to learn open surgical procedures. This study aimed to develop a new suture training system for open surgery that provides trainees with the three-dimensional information of exemplary procedures performed by experts and allows them to observe and imitate the procedures during self-practice. The proposed system consists of a motion capture system of surgical instruments and a three-dimensional replication system of captured procedures on the surgical field. Motion capture of surgical instruments was achieved inexpensively by using cylindrical augmented reality (AR) markers, and replication of captured procedures was realized by visualizing them three-dimensionally at the same position and orientation as captured, using an AR device. For subcuticular interrupted suture, it was confirmed that the proposed system enabled users to observe experts’ procedures from any angle and imitate them by manipulating the actual surgical instruments during self-practice. We expect that this training system will contribute to developing a novel surgical training method that enables trainees to learn surgical skills by themselves in the absence of experts.

Dynamic human movements such as dance are difficult to capture without using external markers due to the high complexity of a dancer’s body. This article introduces a marker-free motion capture and composition system for dance motion that uses multiple RGB and depth sensors. Our motion capture system utilizes a set of high-speed RGB and depth sensors to generate skeletal motion data from an expert dancer. During the motion acquisition process, a skeleton tracking method based on a particle filter is provided to estimate the motion parameters for each frame from a sequence of color images and depth features retrieved from the sensors. The expert motion data become archived in a database. The authoring methods in our composition system automate most of the motion editing processes for general users by providing an online motion search with an input posture and then performing motion synthesis on an arbitrary motion path. Using the proposed system, we demonstrate that various dance performances can be composed in an intuitive and efficient way on client devices such as tablets and kiosk PCs.

A bad start and what then? The work situation of self-employed entrepreneurs with negative and positive start motives This article assesses the extent to which the quality of labor varies between solo self-employed who set up a business for negative reasons and those who started for positive reasons. A negative reason is, for example, not being able to find a suitable job as an employee; an example of a positive reason is wanting to be self-employed from the very beginning. Quality of labor is measured according to the person's financial situation, security of employment, quality of the working environment and work satisfaction. In the analysis, data are used from the Self-employment Survey conducted by Statistics Netherlands and TNO. Compared to self-employed persons with a positive motivation, those who were negatively motivated show lower performance in terms of their business's financial situation, income position, work-related mental fatigue (burn-out), self-perceived health status, concern about the business's future and the level of satisfaction. However, in absolute terms, the vast majority appear to be satisfied with their work situation, enthusiastic and not intending to quit self-employment.

Optical motion capture is a mature contemporary technique for the acquisition of motion data; alas, it is non-error-free. Due to technical limitations and occlusions of markers, gaps might occur in such recordings. The article reviews various neural network architectures applied to the gap-filling problem in motion capture sequences within the FBM framework providing a representation of body kinematic structure. The results are compared with interpolation and matrix completion methods. We found out that, for longer sequences, simple linear feedforward neural networks can outperform the other, sophisticated architectures, but these outcomes might be affected by the small amount of data availabe for training. We were also able to identify that the acceleration and monotonicity of input sequence are the parameters that have a notable impact on the obtained results.

The world of research requires researchers, students to share knowledge. With the invention of social media, knowledge sharing process has been more effective and easier. This study examined the usage of social media for knowledge sharing among students of the Polytechnic Ibadan, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted, while stratified random sampling technique was adopted to select the students. Four hundred and thirty four copies of questionnaire were administered, while 301 were retrieved and 271 copies found useful for data analysis. Data was analysed using frequencies and percentage distribution, Spearman’s rank correlation, Kruskal Wallis test, and Chi-Square. Findings reveal that Facebook and Whatsapp are the widely used social media tools for knowledge sharing by the students. The study found significant relationship between social influence and attitude towards using social media for knowledge sharing, as well as significant relationship between attitude and use of social media for knowledge sharing.The study recommends that institutions should exploit the proliferation of social media and its use to set up off-class student-student and student-lecturer discussion groups, which could help encourage and promote knowledge sharing, and thereby help students in achieving good academic outcomes.
