The significance and meaning of cultural pluralism, or of multiculturalism as it is more commonly referred to in Australia, continue to excite much debate, as well as conceptual confusion. In this paper three possible types of multiculturalism in ethnically plural societies are analysed, namely those of ‘transitional‘, ‘residual’, and ‘stable’ or enduring multiculturalism. The latter orientation is carefully distinguished from separatism, while the transitional and residual types of multiculturalism are related to assimilationist solutions to pluralism. Throughout the paper the emphasis is placed on the paramount significance of culture in social life and on the need to distinguish between viable cultures that can be transmitted and modified by future generations, and cultures that have been reduced to residues through the loss of their core values. Such a concept of ethnic cultures, each with its distinct core, is discussed within the framework of values that are supra-ethnic, or shared by all sections of Australian society. From this vantage, the role of the school appears to be that of cultivating such shared values, and of transmitting the cores of all groups, within a social matrix that is dynamic and capable of change. This type of viable and developing pluralism is only possible if it is related to the personal cultural worlds of all Australians, since plurality remains a sterile notion unless it is seen to permeate the lives of individuals from all groups in society. The focus of the paper is on Australia, but examples from other ethnically plural societies are introduced, in order to highlight those developments that bear upon the Australian scene, and to explicate certain conceptual distinctions that are best understood in an international context.

The omnipresence of workplace gossip makes understanding gossip processes imperative to grasp social life in organizations. Although gossip research has recently experienced an upsurge across the social sciences, findings regarding the consequences of gossip are conflicting. A potential reason is that gossip is conceptualized in myriad different manners in the scientific literature, causing conceptual confusion and rendering theoretical integration impossible. In order to resolve this, we systematically reviewed 6114 scientific articles on gossip and identified 324 papers that define gossip. From the definitions we extracted two essential characteristics of gossip on which there seems to be good agreement within the literature, namely (1) that gossip is communication between humans involving a sender, receiver, and target, and (2) that the target is absent or unaware of the communicated content. These formed the basis of a broad, integrative definition of gossip: a sender communicating to a receiver about a target who is absent or unaware of the content. Furthermore, our review revealed that some definitions discuss characteristics on which there is less agreement: gossip valence (from negative to neutral to positive) and formality (from informal to intermediate to formal). We propose incorporating these characteristics in a multidimensional scaling framework that can guide future research. Our broad, integrative definition of gossip and the multidimensional scaling framework provide the building blocks for a systematic, integrated knowledge base on the role of gossip in human social life, which can foster future theory development and hypothesis testing, and thereby ultimately help organizations to manage gossip.

Education has been hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, with school closures affecting 87.6% of the world's total enrolled students. Drop-out rates are likely to increase worldwide as a result of this massive disruption to education access. Within this context, coronavirus-related disruption has given educators time to rethink education. Technology has come to the fore and will continue to play a key role in educating future generations. In a world where knowledge is a mouse-click away, the role of the educator has changed too. The present study is aimed to draw from theoretical and pragmatic lessons learned with school closures in response to COVID-19 to address paradigms of education. Within this context, the present study was performed to reveal educational policy actions by the Ministry of National Education in the times of COVID-19 in Turkey and make suggestions for future applications.

Ecolinguistic is a branch linguistics who studies the role of linguistics in problem ecology and environment. Ecolinguistics is an interdisciplinary study that looks at the link between ecosystems and linguistics. This study involves sociology, anthropology, psychology and political science. The socio-ecological aspects greatly affect the balance, preservation and inheritance of the environment for current and future generations. Falewuo's lexicon, for example Niru, still remains in the memory of the older generation, but the entity has become extinct. The purpose of this research is to maintain local ecological wisdoms that need to be included in the discourse of a healthy and green environment (greenspeak), bearing in mind that the soul (ideological, philosophical, socio-ecological concepts) of the community is imbued with these local wisdoms. There are changes due to the emergence of practical tools made of plastic, aluminum and iron. Of course, some that have been used can damage the environment and lose the vocabulary of bamboo in the Nias language because it is rarely used. This study used qualitative methods. The qualitative method is a research method based on existing facts or phenomena that empirically live in the speakers (Sudaryanto, 2015). The theory used is Mbete's ecolinguistic theory. From the research results, it was found that the changes in the lifestyle of the Nias people had changed considerably and did not pay attention to nature as a provider and life. The conclusion of this study is that the pattern of social life has also begun to shift towards individual traits. Environment and language are closely related because every flora and fauna that exists must have the meaning of the wealth of the language-speaking community.

The purpose of this study was to find the role of Pkn subjects in building the character of elementary school children in their social life. And this research is based on researchers' anxiety about the character of the nation's next generation, especially in elementary school children who are starting to deteriorate and deviate from social norms. The number of cases of this deviation is caused by the low character of the nation's successor. There are several factors that cause social deviation, among others, namely; themselves, the role of the family in educating children, and the environment. This shows that the existence of Civics plays an important role in shaping the personality of the nation's future generations. Our lessons are always verbal and only oriented to mastering the content of Civics subjects. The results of observations of daily learning practices show that learning is focused so that students can master the information contained on the topic, then assess the level of mastery of these students. The relationship between teaching materials and everyday life and how to use them to solve problems in life received less attention. Learning seems to be separate from everyday life, so that students do not understand the benefits of what they have learned.

A small but growing area of public administration scholarship appreciates the influence of religious values on various aspects of government. This appreciation parallels a growing interest in comparative public administration and indigenized forms of government which recognizes the role of culture in different approaches to government. This article is at the crossroads of these two trends while also considering a very salient region, the Islamic world. The Islamic world is uniquely religious, which makes this discussion even more relevant, as the nations that represent them strive towards legitimacy and stability. The history and core values of Islam need to be considered as they pertain to systems of government that are widely accepted by the people. In essence, this is being done in many countries across the Islamic world, providing fertile grounds for public administration research from a comparative perspective. This paper explores these possibilities for future research on this topic.

Research on social and environmental accounting (SEA) has mainly concentrated on disclosure of SEA by corporate bodies, where investigations on ones attitude towards SEA are rarely discussed. SEA is a medium that develops relationships between business and society, community and nature. In addition, SEA involves a concept of sustain ability; where natural resources need to be sustained for the needs of future generations (Alhabshi et al., 2003). SEA also tries to recognise the role of accounting in sustainable development and the use of environmental resources. There are arguments that the young generations today are not fully aware of preserving these natural resources as well as handling social and environmental issues wisely. This perhaps link closely to their belief and cultural background. Hence, this paper examines the influence of gender and belief factors on the undergraduate students’ attitude towards SEA. Four dimensions of belief (fixed ability, quick learning, simple knowledge and certain knowledge) proposed by Schommer (2005) were adapted to analyse how belief factors have influence on their attitude towards SEA. An independent sample t-test was used to examine the relationship between gender and students’ attitude towards SEA. Spearmen’s correlation was employed to show the relationship between belief and attitude towards SEA. The results revealed that gender differences did not show influences on their attitude towards SEA. It was found that there is a significant relationship between belief and students’ attitude towards SEA. Students who believe on the importance of SEA tend to report positive attitude towards SEA. Perhaps findings of this study may provide some information on the SEA education and further be incorporated in the syllabus.

Subject. The article discusses how management transforms as artificial intelligence gets more important in governance, production and social life. Objectives. We identify and substantiate trends in management transformation as artificial intelligence evolves and gets more important in governance, production and social life. The article also provides our suggestions for management and training of managers dealing with artificial intelligence. Methods. The study employs methods of logic research, analysis and synthesis through the systems and creative approach, methodology of technological waves. Results. We analyzed the scope of management as is and found that threats and global challenges escalate due to the advent of artificial intelligence. We provide the rationale for recognizing the strategic culture as the self-organizing system of business process integration. We suggest and substantiate the concept of soft power with reference to strategic culture, which should be raised, inter alia, through the scientific school of conflict studies. We give our recommendations on how management and training of managers should be improved in dealing with artificial intelligence as it evolves. The novelty hereof is that we trace trends in management transformation as the role of artificial intelligence evolves and growth in governance, production and social life. Conclusions and Relevance. Generic solutions are not very effective for the Russian management practice during the transition to the sixth and seventh waves of innovation. Any programming product represents artificial intelligence, which simulates a personality very well, though unable to substitute a manager in motivating, governing and interacting with people.
