Background: Several authors have focused on the aesthetics of nursing care from diverse perspectives; however, there are few studies about the sublime and the beautiful in nursing. Aim: To identify beautiful and sublime moments in the context of the aesthetics of nursing care. Methods: A theoretical reflection has been contemplated about sublime and beautiful values in the context of the aesthetics of nursing care from the cultural history perspective. For that purpose, a revision of this issue has been completed. The terms ‘beautiful’ and ‘sublime’ have been analysed to identify the characteristics of both in the context of nursing care. Ethical consideration: We have followed all ethical requirements regarding the sources, conducting research and authorship. There is no conflict of interest in this paper. Results: With aesthetic knowledge, the nurse expresses the artistic nature of nursing care by appreciating the act of caring for individuals. The sublime is a complex phenomenon, since apparently contrary feelings are interwoven. Nursing care is an art with an anthropological object-subject on which the ‘artist’ applies their prior knowledge and skills. Feelings and emotions that develop during the clinical nursing practice – especially at times sublime and beautiful, aesthetic – constitute experiences which are professionally significant.

In recent years, additional expressions such as ‘sensation of breathing discomfort’ and ‘discomfort of dyspnea’ are being used in daily nursing care in Japan. To better understand the current status of the use of these terms by nurses, and to ascertain what the term ‘dyspnea’ may not express, we designed an original questionnaire and conducted a study with all nurses at our hospital. The questionnaire included questions to determine if nurses used these terms, and in what context. Of the 279 nurses in our hospital, 225 (80.6%) responded. Three-quarters of nurses indicated that they use these terms in clinical nursing practice. There was no difference in the usage of these terms between nurses who had or had not worked in a respiratory outpatients/ward. However, the percentage of nurses using these terms was higher amongst those with 10 years or less nursing experience compared with those with more than 10 years’ experience. Open-ended questions revealed that these terms were used to communicate information between nurses and between nurses and patients’ families. Our observations need to be verified in large-scale studies to determine if these terms are meaningful for nursing practice in that they describe something not expressed with ‘dyspnea’. There is the possibility of confusion due to the use of inappropriate terms and a lack of education on the subject. Many nurses used these terms, and there may be things that the term ‘dyspnea’ could not express. The results of this study can be used to identify something that is lacking in communication about dyspnea between nurses, nurses and patients, and nurses and patients’ families.

Holistic nursing care is widely advocated and is espoused in the philosophy of the South African Nursing Council. This concept is unclear, variously interpreted and poorly understood in paediatric nursing. This study was undertaken to examine the meaning of holistic nursing care and to develop a framework for holistic nursing care, which can be utilised in nurse education settings and in clinical nursing practice in the context of paediatric nursing. A qualitative, interpretive, explorative and contextual research design was used. An evolutionary concept analysis was undertaken to clarify the concept “holistic nursing care” in paediatric nursing in three Johannesburg hospitals. Rodgers’ (1989, 2000) evolutionary method was utilised to analyse the concept.

Abstract OBJECTIVE To develop a subset of nursing diagnoses for the elderly followed in primary health care based on the bank of terms for clinical nursing practice with the elderly, in the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP(r)) version 2013, and on the Model of Nursing Care. METHOD Descriptive study developed in sequential steps of construction and validation of the bank of terms, elaboration of the nursing diagnoses based on the guidelines of the International Council of Nurses and the bank of terms, and categorization of diagnostics according to the Care Model. RESULTS The total of 127 nursing diagnoses were elaborated from 359 validated terms, distributed according to the basic human needs. CONCLUSION It is expected that these diagnoses will form the basis for the planning of nursing care and use of a unified language for documentation of clinical nursing practice with the elderly in primary care.

Values and principles of nursing 4 Fundamentals of general nursing practice 6 Differences between medicine and nursing 8 Scope of practice 10 Evidence-based nursing practice 11 Standards of clinical nursing 12 Nursing has traditionally focused on providing a compassionate service to patients. The purpose of nursing as defined by Florence Nightingale in 1882 is to put the patient in the best condition for nature to act upon them. Nightingale emphasized that the nurse’s role is to anticipate the patient’s needs and to do things for patients even before they recognize their own needs. This type of anticipatory care forms the basis of nursing care in all clinical situations and is often regarded as the cornerstone of essential nursing care....

Nurses are an important and strategic component in the implementation of health services. In performing its duties, a nurse is required to understand the process and standards of nursing practice consisting of the stage of assessment, problem identification (nursing diagnosis), planning, implementation, and evaluation. The purpose of this research is to know the factors related to the compliance of the nurses in applying the standard of nursing care of inpatient at Bakti Mulia Hospital Muncar Banyuwangi. The research design used was cross sectional. The study population was all nurses in the hospital ward of Bakti Mulia Hospital Muncar as many as 48 people and a large sample 48 people. The sampling technique uses saturated sampling. Data collection using questioner then analyzed using logistic regression. The results showed that there was no effect of long time to work on nurse compliance in the application of nursing care standard (p = 0,425; OR = 0,495), no influence of education to nurse compliance in applying nursing care standard (p = 0,151; OR = 2,189) the effect of motivation on nurse compliance in applying nursing care standard (p = 0,008; OR = 0,084). While the most dominant factors that influence the compliance of nurses in the application of nursing care standards in Bakti Mulia Hospital Muncar Banyuwangi regency (p = 0.011; OR = 0.7200). Based on the research, it is necessary to improve the ability (knowledge and skills) to apply nursing care following the workshop of applying the nursing care so that the responsibility for the task can be improved.

This article aims to present and describe the developing process of the slow nursing concept. To date a universal definition of the concept slow nursing for the nursing and healthcare settings is missing from published healthcare research. Based on the literature search and the purpose of the concept derivation strategy, a definition of the concept slow nursing has been suggested. Slow nursing may provide new approaches to assessment or tool development for use in further research, theory development and clinical nursing practice. Slow nursing as a concept for use in clinical work may be innovative, positively influencing nursing care.

Nursing is a respect for dignity and treating every person equally. Qualifying competent and ethical nurses requires the incorporation of a professional code of ethics with clinical nursing practice. However, no study was conducted on the relationship between professional ethics and clinical nursing practice. Therefore this study aimed to determine correlation between professional ethics and pediatrics clinical practice from an achievement perspective. Accordingly, cross-sectional study design was conducted at Mizan-Tepi University using nursing students’ academic achievements at professional ethics and pediatric practice. Collected data were entered into Epi info 7. SPSS version 21.0 was used to calculate spearman’s rho correlation ( rs) and coefficient of determination ( R2) at P  < .05. A total of 316 study participants comprising of 209 (66.14%) male and 107 (33.86%) female nursing students included in the current study. Nursing students’ academic achievements at professional ethics was significantly and positively associated with achievements at pediatrics clinical practice ( rs  = 0.4-0.6), P < .001. Linear regression results revealed 25% to 26.7% coefficient determination for regular students and 18% to 22.9% for summer nursing students. To sum up, there was a significant positive association between achievements of students at professional ethics and pediatrics clinical practice. Therefore increasing students’ academic achievement in professional ethics can further improve their achievements at pediatrics clinical practice. However, academic achievement in professional ethics explained 22.35% of the variability in achievements at pediatric clinical practice. 77.65% of the variability in pediatrics clinical practice was due to other factors that deserve another study.
