Group Discussion is a modern method of assessing students personality. The objectives of the study are (1) to find out the students’ writing ability through group discussion and without group discussion, (2) to know if there is any significant difference of the students’ writing ability between using group discussion and without group discussion technique. The type of this research was experimental research. The sample were selected two classes by using cluster random sampling. Each class consisted of 30 students as experimental group and control group. Data were collected by using test and treatment. The instrument of this research was written test. The mean of post-test in control group is 71.83 and the mean of post-test in experiment group is 74.00. Then the t-test score obtained is 5.565 with degree of freedom (df) is 58. From the result of significant t- value is higher than t-table (5.565 > 1.671), it can be concluded that Ho (negative hyphothesis) is rejected. It means that Ha (positive hyphothesis) can be accepted. The conclusion is that using group discussion to teach writing spoof text for the students has significant effect for the improvement of students’ ability in writing spoof text.

Abstract Using a case–control design, we assessed the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of growth and differentiation factor 5 (GDF5)/rs143383 gene and interaction with environments and knee osteoarthritis (KOA). We recruited 288 KOA patients from the First Clinical College, Henan University of Chinese Medicine between June 2017 and May 2018. There was significant difference in genotype distribution between case group and control group (χ2 = 22.661, P=0.000). The minor C allele was significantly higher in the case group than that in the control group (20.5 vs 8.1%, P=0.000, odds ratio (OR) = 1.62, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.29–2.03). Significant differences were also observed in other gene models. For age, all models show significant differences (P<0.05) for those whose age was more than 60 years, and no significant difference was observed for those under 60 years. For non-smoking group, there were significant differences between case group and control group, and for smoker, significance level was found in TT compared with CC and allele gene models. Patients with drinking and Bbody mass index (MI )≥ 24 also showed significant relationship between rs143383 and osteoarthritis (OA) under the following models: TT vs CC (P=0.000, P=0.018), TT/CT vs CC (P=0.043), TT vs CT/CC (P=0.000, P=0.009), and T vs C (P=0.024, P=0.000). Other gene models indicated no significance (P>0.05). Our results revealed a possible genetic association between GDF5 and KOA, and the TT genotype of rs143383 increased the risk of KOA in Chinese Han population. The interaction between GDF5 gene and drinking, smoking, and obesity further increased the risk of KOA.

Introduction: The role of virgin coconut oil in the treatment of allergic rhinitis is controversial. Thus, the aim of the present study is to determine the effects of virgin coconut oil ingestion, in addition to standard medications, on allergic rhinitis. We also studied the side effects of consumption of virgin coconut oil. Methods: Fifty two subjects were equally divided into test and control groups. All subjects received a daily dose of 10mg of loratadine for 28 days. The test group was given 10ml of virgin coconut oil three times a day in addition to loratadine. The symptoms of allergic rhinitis were scored at the beginning and end of the study. Results:, the symptom score were divided into nasal and non-nasal symptom scores. Sneezing score showed a significant difference, however the score was more in control group than test group, indicating that improvement in symptom was more in control group. The rest of the nasal symptom and non-nasal symptom score showed no significant difference between test and control groups. Approximately 58% of the test subjects developed side effects from consumption of virgin coconut oil, mainly gastrointestinal side effects. Conclusion: In the present study, ingestion of virgin coconut oil does not improve the overall and individual symptoms of allergic rhinitis, furthermore it has side effects.

AbstractThe present study investigated possible effects of dietary malic acid on the expression of immunity, antioxidant and growth related genes expression as well as skin mucus immune parameters in common carp. Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) fingerlings were fed diets supplemented with different levels (0 [control], 0.5%, 1%, 2%) of malic acid (MA) for 60 days. The results revealed highest expression levels of immune-related genes (tnf-alpha, il1b, il8 and lyz) in skin of common carp fed 2% MA (P < 0.05). Regarding 1% MA treatment comparison with control group, significant difference was noticed just in case of lyz (P < 0.05). Evaluation of growth related genes expression revealed no significant difference between treatments (P > 0.05). The study of antioxidant related genes (gsta and gpx) in common carp skin fed with MA, showed significant difference between treated groups and control (P < 0.05). Carps fed with 2% MA had highest alkaline phosphatase activity in skin mucus compared other treated groups and control (P < 0.05). There were no significant difference between 0.5% and 1% and control (P > 0.05). The study of total protein and total immunoglobulin (Ig) in common carp skin musus revealed no alteration following MA treatment (P > 0.05). The present data demonstrated that feeding with MA altered immune and antioxidant genes expression in skin mucus of common carp.

Background: Pain control is considered as the key issue in modern midwifery. Along with medical painkillers, reflexology is viewed as a non-medical and noninvasive method. Hence, we aimed to investigate the effect of reflexology on the intensity of pain and length of labor. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial, participants included 240 Iranian primiparous women with term and singleton pregnancy. Having a 3-4 cm cervical dilatation once they visited the hospital. Through a convenient sampling method, they were selected and then randomly divided into two groups. In the intervention group, reflexology was performed, and the intensity of pain during the active phase of labor along with the length of labor in the active phase was measured by visual analog scale (VAS) and compared with the control group. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and Mann-Whitney U-test. Result: Data analysis showed a statistically significant difference between the intensity of pain in the 5-7 and 8-10 cm dilatation in the two groups (P=0.01). Moreover, the labor length in the active phase was found to be significantly shorter in the intervention group (P<0.001). Conclusion: It appears that reflexology can lead to a reduction in the pain and length of labor. Therefore, through instructing this technique, a goal of midwifery, which is reducing labor pain and its length can be achieved. Keywords: Reflexology, Labor Pain, Labor Length, Primiparous Women
