Social scientists have increasingly shown how qualitative research can be an emotional experience for researchers. Literature on this subject has tended to focus on the emotionally upsetting impact of data collection, often framing this as a form of emotional labour which can be managed by researchers adopting confessional style narratives throughout the research process. But what about the potentially life-affirming impacts of emotions in research? And what happens when confessional style narratives create, rather than dilute, emotional trauma? We use our experiences of conducting qualitative research on two very emotive topics – baby loss and sibling bereavement – to explore the role of emotions in research. We go beyond the predominant focus on doing research to shed light on emotions in the wider research process (from recruitment to impact). We will highlight the dual-edged nature of emotions in research, emphasising some of the more beneficial impacts. Drawing on the Weberian concept of Verstehen which focuses on the importance of understanding, we will also develop a more nuanced form of emotion management in this context. In doing so, we offer an original contribution to methodological discussions in this field, as well as to more conceptual debates on emotional labour.

This paper is a commentary on Herzog et al.’s vignette drawn from their experience of conducting ethically challenging qualitative research. They describe an encounter with a family in which an older child has acted as a sibling donor to a sick younger sibling. It is evident that the process has taken its toll on the well-being of the older child and has created tensions within the family. What then are the ethical boundaries and responsibilities of researchers who enter the private domain of the family? This commentary responds with a model of “ethical reflexivity” which shows how a reflexive researcher can incorporate moral reflection at the different stages of the research process. Reflexivity works differently at different points, upstream it allows for anticipation and planning, incorporating ethical strategies into the methodology. Midstream reflexivity allows for evaluation, reflection and strategic response as the research unfolds and downstream it allows for a critical evaluation of how the research played out. Although it is a vital resource for any society to allow a wide degree of freedom for social scientists to research the social life, this freedom also brings responsibilities. Participation in research both creates and reveals the vulnerabilities of participants and since the researcher is entangled in these complexities they must also be prepared to respond and act. At times it may be necessary to step out of the role of researcher in order to offer support or take more decisive action especially when the well-being of vulnerable participants is at stake.

Memes are a prominent feature of global life in the 21st century. The author asserts that memes are significant to current and future qualitative research. In particular, the text establishes memes as: (a) part of everyday communication, expression, and explanation, thus useful in qualitative research; (b) valuable cultural units and symbols; (c) forms of rapport building and cultivating relational research; (d) approaches that bolster and sustain remote data collection; (e) methods that infuse agency, humor, and creativity into the research process. The author then showcases distinctive ways memes can be effectively incorporated in qualitative research pursuits and publications. The article concludes with the necessity of data collection and representation approaches that advance the meaningfulness and cultural-relevance of qualitative inquiry.

One of the solutions proposed by Badan Amil Zakat Nasional is to form Lembaga Pemberdayaan Ekonomi Mustahik which has the task of improving the quality of life of mustahik through its programs. So, the purpose of this study is to find out how the role of Lembaga Pemberdayaan Ekonomi Mustahik Badan Amil Zakat Nasional in improving the economic welfare of mustahik. This study uses qualitative research methods that produce descriptive data. Where this research is based on observations made by the author and then explained according to what the author observed in the field. The data collection that the researchers did was using the method of observation, documentary interviews, and other data. When the data has been collected, the researcher conducts an analysis and then draws conclusions from the analysis. The results of this study are Lembaga Pemberdayaan Ekonomi Mustahik BAZNAS plays a role in the development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and focuses on potential creative businesses, empowers by providing business development capital assistance, in accordance with the budget draft proposed by mustahik, and approved by LPEM BAZNAS. This article discusses ethical decisions in the qualitative research of homes, with particular focus on a situation, in which a researcher studies his/her own migrant community. While exploring more common topics, such as negotiating access and receiving permission to photograph within participants’ homes, this article will also highlight issues that occur specifically within community-based ethnographic studies among Russian migrants. Using examples from the study of Russian immigrants’ homes in the UK, this article raises important questions of social positioning and power distribution within studied community. It will demonstrate the complexities of ethical decision making at different stages of the research process, which reflects the constantly changing relationship(s) between the cultural and social backgrounds and identities of researchers and participants. The insider and outsider role of the researcher is relative and the constant need to balance it, while simultaneously creating difficult ethical dilemmas, often reveals rich data and moves the whole research process forward.

Abstract Abdul Hay Kurban Ali’s arrival in Japan in 1924 has a huge impact on the development of Islam and towards the Muslim community in Tokyo Japan. The migration of the Turkic Tatar Muslim to Japan resulting from the Russian Revolution un 1917 has cause several Islamic Associations to emerge in Japan. Abdul Hay Kurban Ali was the leader of one of this Islamic Association for the Muslim community representing the Turkic-Tatar Muslim in Japan under the name Mahalla Islamiya. With this, Abdul Hay Kurban Ali has carried the interests from each of the Islamic Association from the Muslim community in Japan to build education institution and mosque in Tokyo, Japan. As such, Abdul Hay Kurban Ali cooperate with Syeikh Abdul Rashid Ibrahim in creating good relationship between Turkey and Japan to ease the construction of education institution and mosque in Tokyo, Japan. This research is a qualitative research using the historical history design. This research used the documentation method through data collection that focus on sources under four themes which is historical background of Abdul Hay Kurban Ali, the arrival of Islam in Japan, the role of Da’wah by Abdul Hay Kurban Ali and his contributions in Tokyo, Japan. Meanwhile, the researcher use descriptive and historical methods in analysing the data and sources under the prescribed themes. The finding from the research showed that the four thematic analyses has given a clear and organized information. The role of Abdul Hay Kurban towards the development of Islam in Tokyo, Japan is very significant for the Da’wah aspect towards the Japanese community, the Islamic Association of the Muslim community and the construction of education institution and mosque. Menerusi hal ini, Abdul Hay Kurban Ali telah membawa hasrat daripada setiap persatuan-persatuan komuniti Muslim di Jepun untuk membina institusi pendidikan dan masjid di Tokyo, Jepun. Oleh itu, Abdul Hay Kurban Ali bekerjasama dengan Syeikh Abdul Rashid Ibrahim untuk mengadakan hubungan baik bersama kerajaan Turki dan Jepun bagi memudahkan pembinaan institusi pendidikan dan masjid di Tokyo, Jepun. Kajian Ini merupakan kajian berbentuk kualitatif dengan menggunakan reka bentuk kajian sejarah. Kajian ini menggunakan metode dokumentasi melalui pengumpulan data dengan menfokuskan pada sumber-sumber yang berkaitan empat tema iaitu, sejarah latar belakang Abdul Hay Kurban Ali, kedatangan Islam di Jepun, peranan dakwah Abdul Hay Kurban Ali dan sumbangan beliau di Tokyo, Jepun. Manakala pengkaji menggunakan metode deskriptif dan metode sejarah untuk menganalisis data-data dan sumber-sumber menerusi tema yang ditetapkan. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa sumber-sumber menerusi empat tematik yang dikaji oleh pengkaji telah memberikan maklumat yang tersusun dan jelas. Peranan Abdul Hay Kurban Ali terhadap perkembangan Islam di Tokyo, Jepun amat besar jasanya dari aspek dakwah kepada komuniti Jepun, penyatuan persatuan-persatuan komuniti Muslim dan pembinaan institusi pendidikan dan masjid. The didactics is configured as a broad field of investigation and has as object of study the teaching process. It encompasses several actions on pedagogical practice, but also involves the conception of education that the teacher possesses, since to human and integral formation it is necessary to consider the political, social, cultural and economic scenario in which the subjects are inserted. In the light of the above, the objective of this article is to analyze from the productions in the field, specifically the Working Group on Didactics (GT04) of the National Association of Postgraduate and Research in Education (ANPED), which reveal about the role of didactics in teacher training. It is based on the qualitative research, of the bibliographic type; the data collection took place in the ANPED database between 2007-2017 and data analysis was performed from a descriptiveanalytical perspective. The results reveal mainly the research focus in the researched area.

This type of research is a type of qualitative research. This research was conducted at SD N Suryodiningrata 1 Yogyakarta. The subjects in this study were to schools, class teachers, and students. Data collection techniques use observation, interview, and observation techniques. Based on the results of the study show that the forms of student bullying behavior that occur are that students make fun of and mock friends, find out friends and ask for pocket money to their friends. The way the class teacher handles student bullying behavior is by conducting classical and individual guidance. The role of the class in addressing the behavior of bullying students, be a mediator when the bullying occurred in class, and give advice as well as motivations to students.

Non-formal education is practical education or training for the community that is still carried out by the community to increase knowledge and increase interest in talent in themselves. The purpose of this study is to find out about Muhammadiyah non-formal education, the goals and benefits of non-formal education, the characteristics of Muhammadiyah non-formal education and forms of non-formal education of Muhammadiyah. The data collection techniques were interviews and observations, interviews with resource persons Mrs. Sumjiana (managers) and observations and research at the Muhammadiyah branch of the Muhammadiyah College in Gedangan District. This study uses descriptive qualitative research methods. A qualitative approach is a research process to understand social or human problems by analyzing words to create a complex and comprehensive picture, as well as reporting detailed information views obtained from information sources in the natural environment. Muhammadiyah non-formal education during the COVID-19 pandemic took various forms. Muhammadiyah non-formal education such as TK Aisyah 1 Gedangan and TPQ Tunas Jasmine in Gedangan District.

Mindfulness is a whole state of being that is not usually linked with academic research in information systems. However if we take Denzin and Lincoln’s (2000; 2003), first qualitative research phase, which is the consideration of the key role of the researcher in socially-situated research, it soon becomes evident that a mindful researcher (Fielden, 2005) is more likely to conduct quality research than one who is not. In this discussion paper the qualities of mindfulness (Fielden, 2005) are explored; Denzin and Lincoln’s (2003) 5-stage qualitative research process is then mapped onto these multiple characteristics of mindfulness; and also onto a timeline for a typical qualitative research process in information systems. The paper concludes with suggestions on how to include mindful practices in research methods and supervision training in information systems, which is a contribution to the literature in this area.

The purpose of this paper is to ascertain the contemporary role of mobile phones in value co-creation through social media marketing. How mobile phones, in particular, smartphones with the help of numerous social media generate value co-creation, is the key objective of this study. A random sampling method was used to conduct a survey in different universities in China to identify the role of mobile phones in value co-creation. Findings from primary data collection indicated that mobile phones play a vital role in value co-creation because of the extensive use of social media. If value co-creation through social media marketing develops with the help of producers, suppliers and other intermediaries with the necessary technology and trust, the society, as well as customers, may enjoy a unique way of shopping. Future studies with mixed methodology and respondents who use different social media as a tool to generate value co-creation may shed light on the undiscovered phenomenon of social media marketing in the context of the mobile phone.
