AbstractChild care prices are expected to reflect the quality of provision. However, in contexts where there are high information asymmetries between the users of the services and providers, we may expect this link between quality and prices to be weaker. Turkey is selected for the study as it has a highly regulated child care sector where the costs of accreditation and initial setup are high. However, there is very little on-going supervision and no information provided to users on the quality or ranking of these services. This paper investigates the role of quality in determining private child care prices using a unique provider-level data set collected in five provinces of Turkey. Regression results show that prices are mainly driven by infrastructure quality while human resources and curriculum and materials quality scores that are more likely to have a strong bearing on child development do not have a significant impact on prices.

Abstract This article investigates the role of mass media in times of conflict and state-sponsored mass violence against civilians. We use a unique village-level data set from the Rwandan genocide to estimate the impact of a popular radio station that encouraged violence against the Tutsi minority population. The results show that the broadcasts had a significant effect on participation in killings by both militia groups and ordinary civilians. An estimated 51,000 perpetrators, or approximately 10% of the overall violence, can be attributed to the station. The broadcasts increased militia violence not only directly by influencing behavior in villages with radio reception but also indirectly by increasing participation in neighboring villages. In fact, spillovers are estimated to have caused more militia violence than the direct effects. Thus, the article provides evidence that mass media can affect participation in violence directly due to exposure and indirectly due to social interactions.

We have known that MEA aims to increase the economic stability in the ASEAN region and forming a strong economic area  inter-ASEAN countries. By implementing MEA in the late of 2015, the member country of ASEAN will sell goods and services easily to the other countries throughout Southeast Asia so that this can effect to the very intensive competition. In this matter, the significant thing which should be done by the Indonesian government especially city government of Lhokseumawe in facing the MEA is by preparing the quality human resources to be compete in the regional and international level. For increasing the quality of human resources is through the educational instituion at least by increasing the role of school supervisor to oversee and control toward the educational process.
