This paper describes the use of a simulator to analyze heavy vehicle impacts on capacity and level of service of rural unsignalized intersections. The impact on capacity is measured d by the do termination of equivalence factors and the level of service a assessment is based on average delay crossing times. The results indicate that the two vehicle classes responsible for the greatest intact are articulated trucks (due to their length) and medium-sized trucks, because of their poor power-to-weight ratio. The equivalence factors obtained are greater than those shown in the 1994 HCM, demonstrating the need for development of an unsignalized intersection analysis method more adequate to the Brazilian operational and vehicle conditions.</p>

At unsignalized intersections, both on the major street and on the minor street, there may be short turning lanes alongside the through lanes following downstream from one single lane. This combined system is termed a shared-short lane (SSL). Up to now it has only been possible to calculate the capacity of these lanes at the stop line and the capacity of the diverging point, where the turning lane diverges from the through lane. For the total average delay of the involved individual movements, there is no applicable estimation procedure. As a special case, the shared lane (SL), which is used by several movements without a separate turning lane, must also be reconsidered. This paper presents a new model for the estimation of average delays of SSL with SL as a special case at unsignalized intersections. The model is based on the analogy to standard queuing systems. The results depend on the length of the short lane. The model is validated by simulation. The results demonstrate that the outcome of the models in current highway capacity manuals may be misleading, with the risk of inaccurately classifying the level of service of an intersection. Therefore, there is an urgent need to complete the relevant procedures in highway capacity manuals by more realistic estimation procedures for the total delay at an SSL or an SL. The methods in this paper—even if they are rather complex—are recommended to be incorporated into future versions of highway capacity manuals using some simplifications.

This paper deals with traffic impact assessment (TIA) of a proposed commercial development in the neighbourhoods of Skudai Town in the Johor Bahru region. We used three regimes: Trip Rate Analysis, Cross-Classification Analysis, and Regression Analysis to assess the future traffic expected to be caused by a development – a proposed Tesco hypermarket (TH) in Skudai. The obtained mean trip rates were critically examined for forecasting traffic. The results indicated no significant variances from the estimated mean entry trip rates as mentioned in the Trip Generation Manual, Highway Planning Unit (HPU) of Malaysia. The estimated mean trip rates were used to measure the performance of a critical intersection in the immediate vicinity the development. The critical Intersection was analyzed using SIDRA software to estimate the delay – a criterion for determining the level-of-service (LOS) provided to motorists. Traffic projections made for horizon year 2025 depicted a LOS ‘F’ with 2716.9s of average delay. Traffic improvements were also proposed to mitigate the impact of future development and traffic conditions. The study provided a framework for the estimation of trip rates for Malaysian conditions along with some guidelines for their adoption. These insights to TIA can assist developers or local authorities in decision making.

Abstract: This research aims to analyze the impact of Janti Flyover Construction toward the growth of layout at Janti Urban Area, including structured space, open space, and linkage. Method used for data collecting are observation, air photograph monitoring, and interview, whereas the analysis method is qualitative description, which is the superimposed method of two layers, that are the layout condition before and after flyover construction. The result shows that the impact of Janti Flyover construction can be seen on building mass (solid), the increasing number of open spaces, including the road network, parking place, and park, whereas the relation between spaces, visually and structurally, can be seen on the growth of buildings which have new shapes and styles, therefore the performance of the overall building does not have a proportional shape. Considering Janti Street at the collective relation, its role is getting stronger as the main frame road network. Keywords: Flyover construction, layout changing, Janti AreaAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pembangunan Jalan Layang Janti terhadap perkembangan tata ruang Kawasan Janti, meliputi ruang terbangun, ruang terbuka, serta hubungan antar ruang (“linkage”).

By the year 2030, Malaysian population will experience the after effects of the rapid growth of ageing society. This paper investigates the impact of seamless integration of horticultural activity in the new residential typology of retirement community. It is believed that horticultural therapy is not only beneficial for physical and psychological but also promotes socialisation opportunities among the elderly. Comparative analysis method on selected precedent studies has been carried out and analysed in accordance with Malaysian context. Initial findings indicate that a retirement community with horticultural activity gives therapy for healthier well-being. This therapeutic activity can be apositive change in elderly lifestyle and essential towards the establishment of retirement community in Malaysia.

Graphene is a good candidate for protective material owing to its extremely high stiffness and high strength-to-weight ratio. However, the impact performance of twisted bilayer graphene is still obscure. Herein we have investigated the ballistic resistance capacity of twisted bilayer graphene compared to that of AA-stacked bilayer graphene using molecular dynamic simulations. The energy propagation processes are identical, while the ballistic resistance capacity of the twisted bilayer graphene is almost two times larger than the AA-bilayer graphene. The enhanced capacity of the twisted bilayer graphene is assumed to be caused by the mismatch between the two sheets of graphene, which results in earlier fracture of the first graphene layer and reduces the possibility of penetration.

Energy saving and environmental protection are topics of growing interest. In the light of these aspects alternative refrigeration principles become increasingly important. Shape memory alloys (SMA), especially NiTi alloys, generate a large amount of latent heat during solid state phase transformations, which can lead to a significant cooling effect in the material. These materials do not only provide the potential for an energy-efficient cooling process, they also minimize the impact on the environment by reducing the need for conventional ozone-depleting refrigerants. Our paper, presenting first results obtained in a project within the DFG Priority Program SPP 1599 “Ferroic Cooling”, focuses on the thermodynamic analysis of a NiTi-based cooling system. We first introduce a suitable cooling process and subsequently illustrate the underlying mechanisms of the process in comparison with the conventional compression refrigeration system. We further introduce a graphical solution to calculate the energy efficiency ratio of the system. This thermodynamic analysis method shows the necessary work input and the heat absorption of the SMA in stress/strain- or temperature/entropy-diagrams, respectively. The results of the calculations underline the high potential of this solid-state cooling methodology.

Chitosans represent a group of multifunctional drug excipients. Here, we aimed to estimate the impact of high-molecular weight chitosan on the physicochemical properties of clotrimazole–chitosan solid mixtures (CL–CH), prepared by grinding and kneading methods. We characterised these formulas by infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and powder X-ray diffractometry, and performed in vitro clotrimazole dissolution tests. Additionally, we examined the antifungal activity of clotrimazole–chitosan mixtures against clinical Candida isolates under neutral and acid conditions. The synergistic effect of clotrimazole and chitosan S combinations was observed in tests carried out at pH 4 on Candida glabrata strains. The inhibition of C. glabrata growth reached at least 90%, regardless of the drug/excipient weight ratio, and even at half of the minimal inhibitory concentrations of clotrimazole. Our results demonstrate that clotrimazole and high-molecular weight chitosan could be an effective combination in a topical antifungal formulation, as chitosan acts synergistically with clotrimazole against non-albicans candida strains.

Introduction: Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure. Genome wide association studies have recently identified single nucleotide polymorphisms in ATP2B1 , the gene encoding the calcium extrusion pump, plasma membrane calcium ATPase (PMCA1), as having a strong association with hypertension risk. Hypothesis: PMCA1 plays an important role in regulation of blood pressure and protection against hypertension and cardiac hypertrophy. Aims: We aim to examine whether there is a functional link between PMCA1 and blood pressure regulation, and the development of hypertension. And to determine the impact this link may have on cardiac structure and function. Methods and Results: To study the role of PMCA1 we generated a global PMCA1 heterozygous knockout mouse (PMCA1 Ht ). PMCA1 Ht mice had 46% to 52% reduction in PMCA1 protein expression compared to the WT, in aorta, heart, kidney and brain. To study the mice under hypertensive stress conditions, 3 month old PMCA1 Ht and wild type (WT) mice were infused via minipump with angiotensin II (1mg/Kg/daily) or water as a control. Upon angiotensin treatment, PMCA1 Ht mice showed a significantly greater increase in systolic (62.24±3.05 mmHg) and diastolic pressure (52.68±4.67 mmHg), in comparison to the WT (33.37±2.91 mmHg and 23.94±4.56 mmHg, respectively), P<0.001, n=12. Moreover, PMCA1 Ht mice showed a significantly greater hypertrophic response as indicated by a greater heart weight to tibia length ratio, cardiomyocyte cell size (410±18.7 μm 2 ), compared to WT mice (340.4±9.8 μm 2 ), and increased expression of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), 2.36 ± 0.25 fold change, n =5-6, P< 0.01. Echocardiography showed no significant changes between PMCA1 Ht and WT mice, in heart rate, and in cardiac function, as indicated by fractional shortening and ejection fraction. In addition, PMCA1 Ht mice showed no sign of lung congestion as indicated by lung weight to body weight ratio. Conclusion: ATP2B1 deletion leads to increased blood pressure and cardiac hypertrophy. This provides functional evidence that PMCA1 is involved in blood pressure regulation and protects against the development of hypertension and cardiac hypertrophy.

Changes in the structure of the planting industry are an important indicator of the level of agricultural development. This paper applies the shift-share analysis method to analyse the growth of Uzbekistan’s planting industry from 2011 to 2018 into three parts: the national share, the industry mix and the regional shift component. The study found that the growth of Uzbekistan’s national planting industry has driven the growth of the planting industry in each state. Although the output of grain and cotton is still the main output of the planting industry, the scale of grain and cotton is relatively shrinking, and the output of vegetables, melons, fruits and berries, and grapes is on the rise. Because of the obvious differences in the impact of the planting industry structure and competitiveness on yield growth in Uzbekistan states, each state should formulate corresponding industrial policies according to the advantages and characteristics of planting industry.

The pandemic crisis and the linked infodemic are extraordinary cases to test the EU capability to manage the disinformation disorder, especially towards young people. This paper aims to analyse the impact of the EU communicative actions regarding disinformation about Covid-19, on trust and sense of belonging in young Italian and Spanish university students. The research presents an exploratory and quantitative study that uses a second-generation multivariate analysis method. The results show that trust can be very well the resource on which EU communicative actions may positively impact. Nevertheless, our study reveals that the EU in-stitutions measures have not increased sense of belonging in EU integration.
