<p class="keywords">This paper presents a case study of the Air France-KLM, Delta Air Lines, and Virgin Atlantic transatlantic joint venture, one of the world’s largest strategic passenger joint ventures. The study used a qualitative research approach. The data gathered for the study was examined by document analysis. The strategic analysis of the joint venture was based on the use of Porter’s Five Forces Model. The study found that the joint venture has evolved over time through the addition of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Alitalia, and Virgin Atlantic Airways to the original joint venture between Air France and Delta Air Lines. The joint venture has provided significant synergistic benefits to the partners and has allowed the partners to access new markets and to participate in the evolution of the transatlantic air travel market, one of the world’s major air travel markets. The joint venture has also enabled the venture partners to enhance their competitive position through strengthened service offerings, a comprehensive route network that offers customers a high level of connectivity, and greater flight frequencies within their own route networks, all of which creates value for the partners. A limitation of the study was that the annual revenue, revenue passenger kilometres performed, or passenger load factors data was not available. It was, therefore, not possible to analyze the business performance of the joint venture.</p>

<p class="keywords">This paper presents a case study of the ANA Cargo and Lufthansa Cargo strategic joint venture, the global air cargo industry’s first strategic joint venture between two of the world’s major air cargo-carrying airlines. The data gathered for the study was examined by document analysis. The strategic analysis of the joint venture was underpinned by the use of Porter’s Five Forces Model. The study found that the joint venture has provided synergistic benefits to both partners and has allowed the partners to access new markets and to participate in the evolution of the air cargo industry. The joint venture has also enabled both joint venture partners to enhance their competitive position in the Europe to Japan and Japan to Europe air cargo markets through strengthened service offerings and has provided the partners with increased cargo capacities, a larger route network, and greater frequencies within their own route networks. A limitation of the study was that ANA Cargo and Lufthansa Cargo revenues, or freight traffic data was not available. It was, therefore, not possible to analyse the business performance of the joint venture.</p>

Universities of technology in Zimbabwe enrol students with various background educational qualifications for Textile, Clothing and Design programmes. The students are combined and learn in same class resulting in high students’ failure rate, drop outs, late completion of degree programmes, and poor performance of graduates. Thus researchers sought to examine curriculum adaptation procedures used to cater for the students. Post-positivism paradigm in mixed method research approach was adopted for the study. Interviews with TCD management, document analysis, and questionnaire with lecturers yielded qualitative and quantitative data. Findings revealed that lecturers employed various uncoordinated methods to adapt the curriculum content to cater for the students

Organizations rely on various types of information systems (IS) to manage day-to-day business and make decisions such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) and supply chain management (SCM) systems. Organizations rely on ERP systems to replace their legacy systems, integrate core business processes and to help adding value and increasing visibility. Additionally, SCM systems help organizations to enhance relationships with supply chain members. It is essential for organizations to measure their business performance by taking into consideration intra-organizational and inter-organizational indicators. Therefore, the integration between ERP and SCM systems is a key to enable more business performance; that were otherwise hidden. Accordingly, the motive for this paper is to study the influence of ERP-SCM integration on enabling more business performance measures. For this reason, a business performance measures framework was constructed and then tested on two organizations using multi-case study qualitative research approach. Analysis results indicated that integrating ERP and SCM systems would render more performance measures and hence enable better and wider-scope evaluation. Consequently, managers are more informed and accordingly are able to make high quality decisions.

<p><em>The aims of the study are to ascertain (1) translation techniques applied in Kumpulan Abstrak Hasil Penelitian 1990-1991 Sekolah Tinggi Seni Indonesia (STSI) Surakarta; (2) the character of translation techniques applied in the translation of Kumpulan Abstrak Hasil Penelitian 1990-1991 Sekolah Tinggi Seni Indonesia (STSI) Surakarta ; and (3) levels of translation accuracy and acceptability and their relationships with the techniques as well as character of translation techniques. This is a descriptive qualitative research with an embedded-case study in translation which uses purposive sampling technique. The sources of data for this research method comprise of a document of Kumpulan Abstrak Hasil Penelitian 1990-1991 Sekolah Tinggi Seni Indonesia (STSI) Surakarta and informants. The research data consists of words, phrases, and clauses in Kumpulan Abstrak Hasil Penelitian (KAHP) 1990-1991 Sekolah Tinggi Seni Indonesia (STSI) Surakarta and its translation in English and the raters’ statements about the accuracy and acceptability levels of translation. The research data were collected with document analysis, questionnaires, and interview. Findings of the research show the following. First, there are 13 techniques used in the translation. 5 of them are included in mandatory techniques while the optional techniques include 12 techniques. It can be seen from the findings that 4 techniques belong to mandatory as well as optional techniques. Based on the quality analysis, it can be found that there are 9 techniques positively influence the translation accuracy and 11 techniques positively influence the translation acceptability. Thus, it can be concluded that, generally, the accuracy and acceptability of the translation are included in high level.</em></p>

Tourism based on astrofiqh or Islamic astrotourism is generally a recently developing sector in the whole world. Malaysia is no exception in advancing this sector to help generate national revenue. However, astrotourism is considered difficult to develop as Malaysia is said to be not quite ready to go toward that direction due to limited ability and resources. Thus, this research aims to identify the role of the State Mufti Department in developing the astrotourism sector in Malaysia. This research discusses astrotourism attraction available in Malaysia. The research approach is qualitative with case study design using document analysis and observation. Research results find that the State Mufti Department plays its role in developing the astrotourism sector through its own tourist attraction, involving a number of places in the respective States with historical, archaeological and astronomical elements, such as observatory, planetarium and dark sky area, besides organised programs on astronomy all year round. All these can be further developed and advanced to increase public awareness of astrofiqh, at once helping to increase national revenue through the programs and services provided.

The objective of this research was to examine Cargolux Airlines International’s, one of the world’s major dedicated all-cargo airlines, strategic position in the global air cargo supply chain. To achieve this objective, a qualitative research approach was used. The data gathered for the study was examined by document analysis. The strategic analysis of Cargolux Airlines International was underpinned using Porter’s Five Forces Model. The study found that Cargolux has developed an extensive portfolio of products that satisfy discrete air cargo market segments’ requirements. The airline has also entered strategic partnership agreements with Emirates SkyCargo, Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA), and Oman Air, which has enabled the partners to expand their route networks and to better optimize their available air cargo capacities. Cargolux has also established Milan-based Cargo Italia, which focuses on serving the important Italian air cargo market. The airline has also developed a successful two hub strategy in conjunction with one of its major shareholders, Henan Civil Aviation and Investment Company (HNCA). In 2017, Cargolux commenced a journey of transformation with the introduction of the “Cargolux 2025 Strategy”. A limitation of the study was that Cargolux’s annual revenues were not available. It was, therefore, not possible to analyze the airline’s revenue performance.

This chapter describes how in today's competitive world, the survival of businesses is highly dependent on satisfying the customers and responding to their demands. The furniture industry is one of the markets that consists high level of competition and customers in different groups. The industry has a rapid growth by improving the economic conditions and quality of life in the world. However, the capability and competitiveness of suppliers and retailers for domestic and imported products are a big challenge. This brings the importance of the strategic analysis approach to the industry. The aim of this article is to implement strategic group maps to understand the dynamics of the furniture market in a selected case study. The used method is the first in the furniture industry and the market analysis is based on the both suppliers/retailers and customers' viewpoints. The outputs show the furniture industry can be categorized in the five groups with specific required demand and strategy in each group.

The study examines the role of Enashma traditional conflict resolution mechanism in handling conflict to maintain peace and stability. To realize the intended objectives, the study utilized case-study research approach with qualitative research method and the data were collected using observation, interview, focused-group discussion and document analysis. The data collected were analyzed and interpreted through word description and narration. According to the data obtained from the interview and focus group discussion, Enashma traditional conflict resolution mechanism has several advantages over the state law. Some of the advantages are restorative capacity, accessibility, revealing crime committed without witness and its acceptability. Paradoxically, the exclusion of women in the system, no standardized mechanism to fix payment of compensation for different conflicts, lack of supportive and strengthening measures from the government and lack of office for local elders are the major weakness of the institution as the information obtained from key informants. Therefore, the study recommended that all the stakeholders should be responsible tosolve the weakness of Enashma traditional conflict resolution mechanism in the study area.

PurposeEnsuring collaboration between partners involved in a collaborative innovation project is a challenge for project managers. This paper aims to highlight how taking a high-level learning approach can represent a managerial lever. In addition, it analyzes the impact of learning tensions in a partnership context.Design/methodology/approachThe paper focuses on an explorative, longitudinal and in-depth analysis of the Innovative Solutions in Urban Systems project via a qualitative single-case study. The research is inductive and based on data from the field rather than a deductive application of theory.FindingsCollaborative innovation projects represent a high-level learning case. Activity theory is suited to studying the dynamics of learning in collaborative innovation projects. Tensions can fertilize the front-end of collaborative innovation projects.Research limitations/implicationsBecause of the chosen research approach, the research results may be difficult to generalize. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the conceptual framework further.Practical implicationsThis article provides a framework for managing tensions in collaborative innovation projects. The results provide also a process to implement all criteria of sustainable development in these projects.Social implicationsThis article highlights to what extent collaborative relations can be developed between participants through a questionnaire with social responsibility attributes. The questionnaire allows to foster participants’ trust.Originality/valueThis approach is original because the authors consider that situations exist that, by definition, belong to “higher-order learning”. Through a case study, they propose a framework to manage this situation.

New United Motors Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI) is a GM-Toyota joint venture that has been lauded by some for achieving performance based on high employee involvement, and criticized by others for intensifying work and harming workers. In 1993, OSHA cited NUMMI for paying insufficient attention to ergonomic issues during the introduction of a new car model. The authors analyze the origins of NUMMI's ergonomic problems and the responses of the company, union, and regulators. They also discuss a more ergonomically successful model introduction two years later. This case suggests that although employee involvement does not eliminate all divergence of interests between management and workers, it can change the terms of that divergence. When management reliance on employee involvement is complemented by strong employee voice and strong regulators, managers may find it in their interest to improve safety as a means of maintaining high employee commitment and thereby improving business performance.
