This study aims to determine the physical quality and digestibility of green pellet concentrate based on I. zollingeriana. The composition of green pellet concentrate feed contains I. zollingeriana and C. calothyrsus in the following combinations: 1) I. zollingeriana /C. calothyrsus (90/0; R0), 2) I. zollingeriana/C. calothyrsus (75/15; R1), 3) I. zollingeriana/C. calothyrsus (60/30; R2) and 4) I. zollingeriana / C. calothyrsus (45/45; R3). The physical quality study of green pellet concentrate was performed using a completely randomized design with four types of green concentrate as treatments of three replications. Green pellet concentrate studies conducted in vitro rumen fermentation were performed using in a randomized block design with four treatments and three sources of liquid rumen as a block. The results of the experiments conducted with pellet criteria containing I. zollingeriana/C. calothyrsus composition (60/30; R2) have the best physical character (water activity = 0.58; particles size = 12.69 mm; degree value angles = 21.01o; collision endurance = 99.78%; endurance friction = 90.42 %; bulk density = 590 kg/m3) compared to the other treatments. The quality of diet based on digestibility in vitro, dry matter and organic material having a pattern equal to R0 is higher (P<0.05) compared with other treatments, while the rough digestibility of In Vitro protein is seen R0, R1, and R2 (P>0.05), but (P<0.05) was higher than the treatment of R3. There was no difference of pH and total bacteria on green pellet concentrate type. The treatment of R3 has the lowest NH3, VFA and total gas concentration (P<0.5) compared with R2, R1 and R0. It was concluded that concentrate green pellet of I. zollingeriana composition (60%) and C.calothyrsus (30%) had better physical and nutritional quality.

Tomato is one of the most consumed vegetables in the world. This work aimed to evaluate post-harvest quality of Italian Saladete tomatoes grown in a protected environment, with different ways of calcium application, in the Middle São Francisco Valley. Consisting of five Italian tomato hybrids (Anjico, Gabrielle, Liberty, Ty 2006 and Shanty), and three different ways of calcium application (T0 without application of calcium; T1 application of calcium in the opening flower, and T2 weekly application of calcium in the fruit). Poductivity, average fruit mass, incidence of apical rot, fruit firmness, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (AT), and pH, were analized. The experimental design used was a completely randomized block design in a factorial scheme (five cultivars x three ways of calcium application), with three repetition and using two central plants as useful plot for analysis, except for fruit firmness that was carried out in a completely randomized design, using tree fruits per analysis. According to the results obtained, hybrids of Italian saladete tomatoes behaved in a satisfactory manner, therefore it is recommended to cultivate hybrids of Italian saladete tomatoes in the Middle São Francisco Valley, mainly hybrid Anjico. Calcium application way did not interfere with post-harvest attributes.

Abstract. Pazla R, Jamarun N, Zain M, Yanti G, Chandra RH. 2021. Quality evaluation of tithonia (Tithonia diversifolia) with fermentation using Lactobacillus plantarum and Aspergillus ficuum at different incubation times. Biodiversitas 22: 3936-3942. This research aimed to evaluate the nutritional quality of tithonia (Tithonia diversifolia) fermented using Lactobacillus plantarum and Aspergillus ficuum with different incubation times on nutritional content, digestibility, phytase enzyme activity, and characteristics of rumen fluid. The research used an experimental method with a factorial completely randomized design to evaluate the nutritional content and phytase enzyme activity after fermentation (stage 1). A randomized block design was used to evaluate in vitro digestibility and rumen fluid characteristics (stage 2). For factorial completely randomized design, factor A is the type of microbe (L. plantarum and A. ficuum), then factor B is the incubation time (3,5,7 days). Parameters observed were the nutritional content of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), crude fiber (CF), and phytase enzyme activity. For the Randomized Block Design, the research treatments were A = A. ficuum + 5 days of incubation, B = A. ficuum + 7 days of incubation, C = L. plantarum + 3 days of incubation, D = L. plantarum + 5 days of incubation. Parameters measured were the digestibility of dry matter(DMD), organic matter (OMD), crude protein (CPD), crude fiber (CFD), rumen pH, VFA production, and NH3 rumen fluid. The results showed that there was an interaction between the type of microbe and incubation time. The treatment had a significantly different effect (P<0.05) on the content of OM, CP, CF and phytase enzyme activity, but no interaction with the content of DM treatment. In the digestibility, the results showed that the effect was not significantly different (P>0.05) on DMD, OMD, CPD but had a significant effect (P<0.05) on CFD. The treatments also had no significant effect (P>0.05) on VFA but were significantly different (P<0.05) on NH3. From this study, it can be concluded that fermented tithonia using A. ficuum with an incubation period of 7 days could improve the quality of tithonia. It can be seen from the content of CP (31.02%), CF (16.52%), phytase enzyme activity (37.36 U/ml), DMD (66.86%), OMD (67.36%), CFD (81.01%), CPD (70.37%), VFA production 135 mM and NH3 concentration 14.31 mg/100 ml, and pH value 6.72 which is suitable for rumen microbial growth.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the effects of using different types and levels of preservatives on chemical composition and in vitro gas production (IVGP) of cassava peel silage. The following treatments were applied: T0: cassava peel without preservative; T1: T0 + molasses 2%; T2: T0 + molasses 4%; T3: T0 + rice bran 2%; T4: T0 + rice bran 4%; T5: T0 + cassava meal 2% and T6:T0 + cassava meal 4% with 3 replications arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) for the chemical composition variable and randomized block design (RBD) for IVGP variable. The results showed that treatments significantly affected (P<0.01) DM, OM, and EE contents, significantly affected (P<0,05) IVGP but did not significantly affect CP, CF contents, potential, and rate of gas production (P>0.05). Treatment T5 seems to have higher values of IVGP and ME (159.1±7.19 ml/500 mgDM; 11.1±0.36MJ/kg DM, respectively) compared to the other treatments that might have related to a higher OM available for in vitro fermentation process. It can be concluded that the use of cassava meal at 2% level can be considered as the most ideal preservative to use to produce a high-quality cassava peel silage.

Abstract The availability of nitrogen and sulfur in the rumen should be synchronized to generate microbial protein synthesis. This study aimed to evaluate rumen degradable protein and sulfur supplementation on in vitro digestibility and ruminal fermentation. The experimental design was a 4 x 3 factorial randomized block design. Factor 1 was RDP levels (%CP) (R1= 60%; R2= 55%; R3= 50%; R4= 45%), and factor 2 was sulfur supplementation (S1= 0%; S2= 0.1%; S3= 0.2%). Data were analyzed with ANOVA followed by the Duncan test. The result showed that sulfur supplementation improved DMD and OMD without changes in rumen pH. NH3 concentration was influenced by RDP levels. Treatment R1 had the highest NH3 concentration (7.03 mM). There was an interaction of two factors on total VFA concentration. The combination of R1 and S2 resulted in the highest total VFA concentration than others. The total bacteria population increased with increasing RDP levels. Protozoa population was affected by RDP levels and sulfur supplementation. This study concluded that a combination of 60% RDP and 0.2% sulfur supplementation resulted in the best ration to improve ruminal fermentation and digestibility.

ABSTRACT

Fusaric acid produced by Fusarium spp. played a major role in potato dry rot development. Using fusaric acid as a selection agent may be useful to identify resistant clones. The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the morphological responses of 10 potato clones (Granola, Atlantic, Cipanas, DTO 28, DTO 33, Russet Burbank, IPB 1, CIP 801040, CIP 801045, dan CIP 801050) and their resistance level to fusaric acid and Fusarium solani. The research was conducted in Plant Breeding Laboratory and Tissue Culture Laboratory 3, Departement of Agronomy and Horticulture from April 2014-February 2015. The in vitro experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with 4 fusaric acid concentrations and 4 replications, while the F. solani infection experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with 5 replications. The result showed that fusaric acid inhibits growth, reduce microtubers production, and caused planlets death. Correlation analysis between in vitro resistance to fusaric acid and F. solani infection on tuber showed positive and notable result. Accordingly, fusaric acid can be used to identify any clones resistant to F. solani.

Keywords: Fusarium solani, phytotoxin, selection

Banana is a tropical fruit plant that popular in people. The availability of Raja Bulu banana seedling insufficient to cover the needs. Problems in commercial banana cultivation is the least availability of clonal superior seeds. Multiplication in tissue culture technique can potentially overcome all limitations of Raja Bulu conventional seedling. So that, the objective of this research was to multiplicate an amount of Raja Bulu banana shoot using plant growth regulator in MS medium to initially produce shoot organs. The multiplication was done by Completely Randomized Design with 2 factor of IAA (0; 0,5; 1 ppm) and BAP (0, 2, 4 ppm). The data were analyzed by ANOVA and the mean compared using Duncan’s pairwise comparisons at p = 0,05. The acclimatization was design by Completely Randomized Block Design with 3 different media of palm fiber, bagasse, and banana pseudo stem then analyzed by ANCOV. The results showed there was interaction of IAA and BAP on variables at the appearance of shoots and the leaf appearance in multiplication. The medium without IAA and contained BAP 2 ppm showed the highest mean number of shoot but it was not cost effective with other treatment in this multiplication. Giving IAA 0,5 ppm with BAP 4 ppm accelerated when the shoots appear and when the leaves appear on multiplication Raja Bulu banana. There was no significant interaction or influence of IAA and BAP on plant height, leaf number, and pseudo stem diameter as acclimatization variable with 3 medium used. The percentage of acclimatization success is 76,5%.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the productivity and the chemical quality of hydroponic corn forage grown on different substrates. The experiment was conducted at the Federal Institute of Science and Technology of Roraima – Campus Novo Paraíso, in the municipality of Caracaraí, Roraima, Brazil. The experiment was carried out in a randomized block design, with five sowing rates (treatments) and four replications. Hybrid corn seeds 2022 were used, sown on a double-sided canvas. When germination started, fertigation with nutrient solution was carried out. The evaluation occurred on the 10th day after sowing and included determination of plant height (cm) and roughage productivity (kg m² and t ha-¹) and bromatological analyses (% N, PB, FDA, NDF and NDT). For bromatological analyses, corn plants were collected, dried in an oven at 65 ºC and then crushed. The productivity of natural forage (k m² and t ha-¹), plant height and the neutral fiber content (NDF) of hydroponic corn were higher at the sowing rate of 2.5 kg m². These variables were influenced by the sowing rate and type of substrate, but resulted in a lower crude protein content. The results show that sugarcane bagasse was a suitable substrate for hydroponic corn, which is justified by the fact that it presents fewer moisture losses, avoiding the loss of nutrients in the nutrient solution. At a sowing rate of 1.0 kg m², the forage produced had a higher content of nitrogen, crude protein and total digestible nutrients, which are important for animal nutrition.
