This paper attempts to explain the phenomenon of hadith studies during the Ṣiffīn war. In the history of Islamic civilization, conflict is always there, one factor that raises conflict is political associated with leadership issue. Even the first conflict occurred in Islam had it after the Prophet Muhammad died. This factor influenced relatively to the study of hadith. Islamic history has experienced "bitter notes" since many wars deployed many companions of the Prophet (ṣaḥābah). They, who are considered fair in the Hadith narration, seemed to have desire to rule, and for the sake of power, they were willing to fight each other. Despite various reasons of religious importance and doctrines, this historical accident has affected to even our recent study of the source. This was renewed after the occurrence of the al-fitnah kubrā, which culminated in the battle of Ṣiffīn between 'Alī bin Abū Ṭālib and Mu'āwiyah ibn Abū Sufyān in 37 AH. Atleast after this war, the study of hadith experienced quite rapid development with the emergence of various kinds of the sect, group or current flow in Islam.

The main focus of Orientalist thought is nothing but to reconstruct and influence Islamic civilization. Their enthusiasm to activate orientalism is increasingly challenged by the presence of Islam as a religion that has followers of most of the world's population. One of the actions of orientalism towards the Islamic world is to start a research movement on the Qur'an and al-Hadith which are the basis of the law and guidelines of Muslims. Not far from the critics of the Qur'an and al-Hadith, they also deconstructed aspects of the development of science, Islamic law, and even the originality of Islamic history. Some famous orientalism figures, one of them is Reinhart Dozy, a famous orientelism from the Netherlands with the concept of literacy in the history of Islamic civilization in Spain. Even though he received a lot of criticism and appreciation from both orientalists and Muslim thinkers, his literary work has had a great influence on Islamic civilization. The discussion steps of this study are entirely carried out using qualitative research that is library research. To be more useful and function properly, this paper is equipped with an explanation using the method of description, interpretation and analysis of data in each discussion. This is done, none other than to focus the discussion to produce a consistent and comprehensive understanding.

This study describes Marshall G. Hodgson's thinking about the study of Islamic history studies in his work entitled The Venture of Islam. The research used in this study is analytical descriptive, which is a study that examines Marshall G.S Hodgson's thinking about Islamic history studies then parses and identifies the patterns of thought. According to Marshall G. S. Hodgson the history of Islam is the result of the ever-changing setting shaped by the Islamic tradition. In addition, it is also the result of a process of accomodation or acculturation from other pre-existing cultural traditions. Based on this view, and in the context of conversations about Islamic civilization, Marshall G. S. Hodgson emphasized the importance of seeing cultural continuity occurring at the level of religion, expressed by Muslims. Marshall G.S. Hudgson in seeing the reality of Islam in the world classifies in three forms of Islamic phenomena as the object of study. First, the phenomenon of Islam as a doctrine (Islamic), second, the phenomenon when the doctrine enters and processes in a cultural society (Islamicate) and manifests itself in a particular social and historical context. And thirdly, when Islam became a phenomenon of the political "world" in state institutions (Islamdom).

The study of Islamic history today may not have been regulated through literature, either in foreign languages or using Indonesian (translations or works of the nation's children). Many books have studied the history of Islam that we can get to fill our information, but no one book is so complete, one literature with another can complement each other to form knowledge of Islamic history. From the thought that no single work is perfect and on the contrary will complement each other, the author of this book aims to present the book Sejarah Peradaban Islam to be a reference and teaching material for the history of Islamic civilization course. The author hopes that this work will not only serve as a reference for students majoring in history at various universities, but has also become a public reading as an important contribution to reinventing Islamic civilization in the past, present, and future.Previously, this book entitled Sejarah Islam was only published in a limited edition (30 copies) by Rayhan Intermedia six years ago for student reading. After undergoing revisions in several parts as well as adjusting the curriculum and lecture materials, a book with the title Sejarah Peradaban Islam was presented. This book is intended for everyone, from all walks of life. Although it focuses on Islam, it can be read by anyone who wants to gain additional knowledge about Islamic history. The flow of study in the book does not follow the periodization of Islamic history as written by Harun Nasution, which is divided into the classical period (650-1250 AD), the middle period (1250-1800 AD), and the modern period (1800 AD). His presentation in the book is more based on the growth and development of Islamic civilization in various regions and the reign of a certain caliph or king, however, it does not ignore the characteristics of the times and the character of the period in which Islam grew and developed. In certain parts of the book, it also reviews the roots and implications of the social revolution, the glorious achievements of the rulers, and the peaks of the development of Islamic civilization in various parts of the world. The book of Sejarah Peradaban Islam from Ahmadin needs to be reviewed to know what is in the book, considering some of the previous things. In addition, also to find out what weaknesses and strengths are contained in the book, it is possible to recommend the book as additional reading for others.

India is important in the study of Islamic history and civilization research as it was one of the earliest territories that received Islamic preaching and was the site for various Islamic kingdoms until the year 1857. The achievements of Islamic civilization in India, particularly during the Mughal era, added sparkle to the glory of Islamic history. For this reason, the facts relating the Mughal Kingdom in India have been discussed in writings on Islamic history and civilization, including the book, Sejarah Umat Islam, by Hamka. The purpose of this article is to study Hamkas work on the history of the Mughal Kingdom in India and analyse the narration and discussion he submitted. This research adopts a qualitative approach using historial study and content analysis to gather and analyse data. Research results find that Hamka had the interest and knowledge in writing Islamic history by describing Muslim societies and Islamic states from their inception to their end, including the Mughal Kingdom in India. In his narrative of Mughal history, Hamka inserted the element of teaching or ibrah (lesson), particularly when discussing the time of Mughal decline. The narrative approach is consistent with the philosophy of Islamic history that stresses on the ibrah concept, which was meaningful to Hamkas own personality as a missionary. Hence, his work, SejarahUmatIslam, proved Hamkas ability to discuss Islamic history, and simultaneously resonated with readers interested in issues of Islamic history.

The second edition of The Encyclopaedia of Islam (EI/2), published since 1954 by E.J. Brill in Leiden, is well known as an unparalleled scholarly reference for the history and culture of the Islamic lands. By late summer 1994, the Encyclopaedia had reached the entry Riḍā Shāh in the middle of the eighth volume. The volumes, each approximately 1000 pages long, are lodes of information about the people, places, events and ideas of Islamic history and thought; but simply by handling the volumes, a reader would never realize that the visual arts were an important component of Islamic culture. There are very few illustrations, none of them in color. Even to the most unsophisticated eye, EI/2 is a dense, ponderous, and user-antagonistic reference tool. Nevertheless, it is a useful resource for the history of art and architecture in the Islamic lands, particularly to those who already know something about Islamic civilization, although the reader must be an experienced miner to discover the ore-bearing strata.

Reviewing the development of science in human civilization should include a discussion of two aspects of development which are the history of Islamic civilization and Western civilization. Islam provides the most important synthesis in the history of human civilization. The rapid development of Islamic civilization has proven to be a worthy rival to other well known and ancient civilization. This is the result of inner strength that was anchored by two sources of dogmatism, namely al-Quran and al-Sunnah, which gave birth to the Islamic intellectual and creative dynamic. The identity of Islamic science can be explained through the analysis of epistemology which can directly provide an overview and goals of the position of science in Islam. Similarly, the critical analysis of the methodology that affect the application and adaptation of science can explain and clarify Islamic Science’s own image in comparison to Western science. Islamic science and technology can build sophisticated machinery to address the problems in life, but the harmonious integration with the environment causes the invention to be more ethical and perfect. The reality is that a clear distinction exists between Islam and Western approaches to the development and progress of the study of science. The comparison of Islamic and Western science shows significant differences in context, epistemology and methodology of science education in the science of civilization. Generally, the difference of philosophy of science or belief system has given the biggest implication to the existence of differences in terms of the development of the study of science .
