The algorithm of cross language fuzzy search based on hash vectors for automatic matching of personal names is proposed. In the response mode for an input request, names in Latin spelling and a given value for the similarity measure, the algorithm determines the set of output Cyrillic names contained in the database of the information search system. The principal feature of the proposed algorithm is the rejection of the direct translation of personal names. Instead, the hashing mechanism of personal names is used, followed by mapping them into the same hidden vector space where the computational procedures of the decision-making system are built. In the process of research, it was solved a number of actual intermediate tasks. Thus, the decomposition algorithms of the explored database, the generation and clustering of the dictionary of basic morphemes are an instrument that is of independent value in solving the problem of automatically translating names from a foreign language, the translation rules of which are unknown – the socalled generalized transcription. After mapping names into a vector space, the matching operation is reduced to assessing the similarity between vectors. As a measure of similarity, several quantities were considered in the study. The most convenient measure of similarity is the cosine similarity, the critical value of which was obtained by plotting the FMR (False Match Rate) and FNMR (False Non-Match Rate) graphs. The developed algorithm is universal with respect to the languages used, that is, it does not depend on a specific alphabet. In the practical implementation of the developed algorithm, a series of experimental studies was carried out using a database containing more than 2.5 million names.

New technical solutions improving the process of thermal sterilization of canned products through the use of multilevel high-temperature modes and heat recovery have been considered and proposed. The essence of the developed method lies in the fact that the heat released by cooling cans with the product that has undergone thermal sterilization is used to heat other cans with the product queued for sterilization. In this mode of heat treatment, except in the last stage, the heat emitted by cooled cans that have already undergone heat treatment is used to heat up the canned food. Hence, the use of the principle of heat recovery by cooling canned products in the baths where others are simultaneously heated provides a significant saving of heat energy and water. Depending on the temperature parameters at different stages of the heat treatment, the heat recovery rate can reach up to 90%. The method also provides savings on cooling water. For the practical implementation of the developed method, the design of the device for multilevel high-temperature thermal sterilization of canned food with heat recovery has been developed. On the basis of experimental studies, new, multilevel high-temperature modes of apple compote sterilization have been developed.

The objective of this study is to determine whether sources of information consulted and the extent of information search differ between experiential and material purchases. For this purpose two experimental studies were conducted. It is demonstrated that moving along the experiential-material purchase continuum; consumers’ reliance on personal sources, especially personal independent sources intensifies towards experiential purchase pole and decreases towards material purchase pole. In addition, for material purchases; direct observation is preferred more compared to personal sources of information. Finally, it is revealed that the total amount of search is greater for experiential purchases than material purchases. The results suggest that experiential and material purchases require different types of search conduct due to their distinct natures.

The necessity of developing a new method for measuring the refractive index of a liquid in a turbulent mode of its flow in a pipeline is substantiated. A new method for measuring the refractive index of a medium n is presented. For its practical implementation, a new design of a flow-through refractometer has been developed, which makes it possible to measure n in both laminar and turbulent fluid flow. A new design of the optical part of the refractometer is considered. A new way of placing it on the vertical section of the pipeline for measuring n is proposed. All this makes it possible to make insignificant the influence on the measurement result of n flowing liquid of errors associated with multiple reflections of laser radiation from optical elements, with the formation of voids or vortex flows in the pipeline and with temperature fluctuations. In the design of a refractometer with a new method for measuring n, there are no restrictions on determining the value of n of a flowing liquid, in contrast to the used industrial flow-through refractometers, the principle of which is based on the phenomenon of total internal reflection of laser radiation at the interface of two media. The results of experimental studies of various media are presented.

Abstract Background Health dialog systems have seen increased adoption by patients, hospitals, and universities due to the confluence of advancements in machine learning and the ubiquity of high-performance hardware that supports real-time speech recognition, high-fidelity text-to-speech, and semantic understanding of natural language. Objectives This review seeks to enumerate opportunities to apply dialog systems toward the improvement of health outcomes while identifying both gaps in the current literature that may impede their implementation and recommendations that may improve their success in medical practice. Methods A search over PubMed and the ACM Digital Library was conducted on September 12, 2017 to collect all articles related to dialog systems within the domain of health care. These results were screened for eligibility with the main criteria being a peer-reviewed study of a system that includes both a natural language interface and either end-user testing or practical implementation. Results Forty-six studies met the inclusion criteria including 24 quasi-experimental studies, 16 randomized control trials, 2 case–control studies, 2 prospective cohort studies, 1 system description, and 1 human–computer conversation analysis. These studies evaluated dialog systems in five application domains: medical education (n = 20), clinical processes (n = 14), mental health (n = 5), personal health agents (n = 5), and patient education (n = 2). Conclusion We found that dialog systems have been widely applied to health care; however, most studies are not reproducible making direct comparison between systems and independent confirmation of findings difficult. Widespread adoption will also require the adoption of standard evaluation and reporting methods for health dialog systems to demonstrate clinical significance.

Cross-lingual embeddings are vector space representations where word translations tend to be co-located. These representations enable learning transfer across languages, thus bridging the gap between data-rich languages such as English and others. In this paper, we present and evaluate a suite of cross-lingual embeddings for the English–Welsh language pair. To train the bilingual embeddings, a Welsh corpus of approximately 145 M words was combined with an English Wikipedia corpus. We used a bilingual dictionary to frame the problem of learning bilingual mappings as a supervised machine learning task, where a word vector space is first learned independently on a monolingual corpus, after which a linear alignment strategy is applied to map the monolingual embeddings to a common bilingual vector space. Two approaches were used to learn monolingual embeddings, including word2vec and fastText. Three cross-language alignment strategies were explored, including cosine similarity, inverted softmax and cross-domain similarity local scaling (CSLS). We evaluated different combinations of these approaches using two tasks, bilingual dictionary induction, and cross-lingual sentiment analysis. The best results were achieved using monolingual fastText embeddings and the CSLS metric. We also demonstrated that by including a few automatically translated training documents, the performance of a cross-lingual text classifier for Welsh can increase by approximately 20 percent points.

A batch mixer is considered. The feasibility of developing a new type of mixers is presented. A literary review of domestic and foreign authors on this subject is made. The author's kinematic scheme of the mixer is presented. It describes the effect on the material mixed in the mixing chamber with respect to two mutually perpendicular horizontal axes. Movement features of material in the mixer suggest the presence of elements of the gyroscopic effect. Rotation of the mixing chamber is carried out by means of belt, chain and conical transmission. The resulting complex spatial motion of the material particles can be controlled by a frequency converter and the selection of appropriate gears. An algorithm for modeling the conical transmission for a mixer with a bi-directional rotational effect on the material is presented. Bevel gear is set on the carrier. Preliminary experimental studies have been conducted. A three-dimensional model of the bevel gear is presented. Adjustment of the installation dimensions is shown. A three-dimensional model of a bevel gear transmission, using the NX software product, is supplemented with a table for its calculation and an initial stocking model. The practical implementation of bevel gears in metal is shown. conclusions on modeling are made.

Well-designed and executed experiments prove cause-and-effect relationships. The ability to draw causal conclusions is critical to knowledge development in any field of research. In this article, we discuss the benefits of experimental designs over alternative research approaches for the social sciences, discuss advantages and disadvantages of different types of experiments, review existing experimental studies specific to tourism and hospitality, and offer guidance to researchers who wish to conduct such studies. Properly executed experiments using actual behaviour of real stakeholders as a dependent variable lead to conclusions with high external validity. Our discussion of practical implementation issues culminates in a checklist for researchers. The article launches the Annals of Tourism Research Curated Collection on experimental research in tourism.
