To date, the traffic accident number on hairpin curve is still quite high. This is exacerbated by speeding driving behaviour of some road users. This research aims to identify the factors that cause traffic accidents and drivers’ behaviour at the curve; to review curve geometric design; and to develop a relationship among speed, curve geometric condition and the accident at the curve. This study simply reviewed three hairpin curves that were prone to be blackspots in Batang. The dominant factors that cause accidents were human error and road condition. The driver’s speeding behaviour was indicated by the speed that was lessen when entering and increase when leaving the curve. There were speed variations among vehicles in research location that could increase the number of accident. The results of the geometric review showed that the radius of all curves evaluated did not meet the standard, i.e. less than the minimum radius. Another result of this study was relationships among speed, geometric condition and accident number, as shown by the following formula: Speed = 0.095 Radius + 42.889, No. of accident = - 0.785 Radius + 0.008 Speed - 284.301, and EAN = 0.028 Speed  - 1108.689.

Recently, accidents involving ground transportations are getting worse and more serious. Indonesian State Police (Korlantas POLRI) recorded the number of accidents in 2018 as many as 109,215 accidents. The number has incresed 4.69 percent compared to 2017 as many as 104,327 events. Road traffic accidents are caused by human error, the driver in this case. The driver's mistake is influenced by several factors, one of them is they cannot expect the road condition when they drive a vehicle at high speed. To solve this problem, drivers need information that can show road conditions. So, we present a new approach for detecting damaged roads by applying augmented reality technology. This research produces a road condition information system to help drivers get information about road conditions via smartphone. This system uses augmented reality technology with a markerless GPS Based Tracking method. The development of this system requires several stages such as collecting the data, data conversion, data classification, and views road condition. The researchers gathered the road condition data from the Public Work Department Semarang. This department itself undertakes a task to control the road condition in Semarang The trial of this system includes all drivers in Semarang city. Based on the results of the questionnaire responded to by 93 respondents, this test obtained an average value of 68%. So this system gets a pretty good response from the driver. Through this system, all drivers can avoid the damaged road condition which can cause traffic-congested and accident.

Traffic accidents have become one of the main causes of death in Indonesia. The biggest contributor to traffic accidents are motorcyclists. According to police records, human error plays a major role in the occurrence of accidents. The aim of this study is to analyze the potential types of human error that contribute to traffic accidents, as well as the psychological factors that underlie traffic accidents experienced by car drivers and motorcyclists. Data was collected by interviewing five car drivers and five motorcyclists. Results show that the car drivers tend to perform a type of human error which is classified as lapses, while the motorcyclists tend to do an error of slips. For psychological factors that underlie traffic accident, results show that both car drivers and motorcyclists made recognition errors, i.e. did not estimate distance, time, and speed. They also made decision errors, i.e. did not avoid the situation immediately, and performance errors, i.e. a motorcyclist stepped on the gas pedal by mistake. Other errors done by the car drivers were being sleepy and drunk, whereas other errors done by motorcyclists were not having a riding license and feeling tired. The implication of this study is to make the drivers/riders aware of the importance of cognitive aspects in driving.

A traffic accident is a tragedy or accident that occurs on the road involving a motorized or heavy vehicle with other road users or without a vehicle. This incident caused the victim to suffer physical, health and material losses. Traffic accidents occur due to several factors such as human error or inadequate road conditions. Even traffic jams can also lead to traffic accidents. The problem of driving and road safety needs to be considered to reduce the number of traffic accidents that occur. This study was conducted to determine the factors that cause accidents, especially those caused by road conditions and traffic performance. The method used in the field observation research and using data on the number of accidents in 2018–2020 located on Jalan Raya Ngaliyan which was taken from the accident data of the West Semarang Police Traffic Unit. The level of road performance on Jalan Tanjakan Silayur Semarang City, at peak hours in the morning and non-peak hours during the day category C and at peak hours in the afternoon category E. Damage to the flexible pavement surface on Jalan Tanjakan Silayur is dominated by the type of damage cracks, grooves, and bleeding. One of the factors that caused the accident was because the traffic signs were not optimal on the Jalan Tanjakan Silayur section.

In the process of the traffic accidents confirmation, the identification of vehicle speed when accident occurred is often an important basis for accident confirmation. The paper firstly discusses the models of mechanics and solving method for the vehicle front face, rear end, sides face ,slanted side collision based on the theory of collision mechanics ,it describes how to identify the vehicle rate and collision angle based on the model simplification, the theoretical analysis for dealing with the complicated accidents. The common and formulas are studied based on the classical collision mechanics method. The application range, parameters involved in selection and influence of the formulas are analyzed in detail. Finally the program based on C# is developed according to the identified calculation process for vehicle speed of traffic accident. The vehicle speed is obtained by selecting the collision type, entering the relevant accident pattern, inputting the parameters and clicking the command button .The application can store, modify and display results conveniently , improve efficiency on vehicle speed identification effectively and reduce the processing cycle of traffic accident availably.

Heavy fog weather can increase traffic accidents and lead to freeway closures which result in delays. This paper aims at exploring traffic accident and emission characteristics in heavy fog, as well as freeway intermittent release measures for heavy fog weather. A driving simulator experiment is conducted for obtaining driving behaviors in heavy fog. By proposing a multi-cell cellular automaton (CA) model based on the experimental data, the role of intermittent release measures on the reduction of traffic accidents and CO emissions is studied. The results show that, affected by heavy fog, when cellular occupancy [Formula: see text], the probability of traffic accidents is much higher; and CO emissions increase significantly when [Formula: see text]. After an intermittent release measure is applied, the probability of traffic accidents and level of CO emissions become reasonable. Obviously, the measure can enhance traffic safety and reduce emissions.

The groups of participants of the pedestrian and automobile flows, whose actions cause the greatest danger to the occurrence of conflict situations in the zone of unregulated transition, are identified. The factors determining the likelihood of a traffic accident at an unregulated transition are systematized, for which probability estimates of the occurrence of road traffic accidents are calculated. As an estimated parameter, the hazard coefficient of a conflict point of an unregulated transition is proposed, which is determined by the ratio of the probability of a traffic accident in the real-time hourly interval to the average annual probability of a traffic accident reduced to the hourly interval. The dependences of the hazard ratio of an unregulated transition are established on the most significant factors: the speed mode of transport in the area before the transition and the state of the road surface.

This paper presents estimation of the traffic accident costs in Serbia, based on original dominant costs model. Dominant costs model uses human capital approach and this model is developed for simple and quick calculation of the traffic accidents costs, because other simple methods as 1 million rules, are not suitable for estimation of the traffic accident costs in the countries with a low GDP per capita. Knowing the costs of traffic accidents is of crucial importance for establishing traffic safety to the level defined by the size of costs made as a consequence of unsafely. So, politicians, decision makers and stakeholders in the field of traffic safety often need quick estimation of the traffic accident costs and economic effects of the particular measures which are applied for decreasing the number and severity of traffic accidents. The estimation of the level of the traffic accidents costs in Serbia, based on the official data (from the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia) about traffic accidents in Serbia for 2008 is shown in this paper and the comparison between predicted and calculated value of the traffic accident costs for 2009 is also presented.
