This research is a translation study on politeness strategies in ordering speech act of novel Christ the Lord out of Egypt and its translation in Indonesian, Kristus Tuhan Meninggalkan Mesir. The purpose of this research is to describe how politeness strategies exist in ordering speech and how politeness strategies impacted the translation qualites. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The data source of the research is the document in the form of the novels namely original novel and translation novel. The data are focused on the sentences that accommodate politeness strategy in ordering speech act. Politeness strategies are known through translation techniques that are used in the novel translation. By analyzing data, it showed that the politeness strategies used in ordering speech act are bald on record, positive politeness, negative politeness, and off record. Based on the data, translation qualities of ordering speech sentences in the novel translation have shifted because of the use of politeness strategies. Furthermore bald on record is more shifted than other because it is shifting into positive politeness. So it can be concluded that the politeness strategies have changed the meaning of ordering speech on source language in English as asking speech on target language in Indonesian.

This study is entitled "Analysis of Translation Methods and Techniques in the Novel Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancey. Study: Translation ". The data source used is a novel titled the Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancey. The objectives of this research are to (1) identify the translation method used in the translation of the novel The Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancey. (2) identify the types of translation techniques used in the translation of Rick Yancey's novel The Curse of the Wendigo. (3) identify the relationship between the translation methods and techniques used in the translation of Rick Yancey's novel The Curse of the Wendigo. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive approach. The theoretical basis of this research is the theory of the Newmark translation method (1988) and the Molina & Albir (2002) translation techniques. The results of this study indicate that there are: (1) seven translation methods used, namely literal (3.2%), faithful (3.2%), semantic (45.2%), adaptation (3.2%) ), idiomatic (3.2%), free (9.7%), and communicative (32.3%). (2) 17 translation techniques used are adaptation (1.2%), amplification (2.4%), borrowing (3.5%), calculating (2.4%), compensation (1.2%), description (2.4%), prevalent equivalent (3.5%), generalization (2.4%), linguistic amplification (9.4%), linguistic compression (17.6%), literal (20%), modulation ( 7.1%), particularization (2.4%), reduction (1.2%), substitution (1.2%), variation (3.5%), and transposition (18.8%). (3) six of the seven translation methods related to the translation technique used.

<em>This article is of specialized translation study. It discusses a translation activity conducted by a visually impaired translator. The study focuses on the translation techniques, methods, and ideology which are carried out by the translator. Using qualitative descriptive method, the authors are able to identify that the translator uses five translation techniques. Four (addition, reduction, adaptation, and generalization) are target-language-oriented techniques and one technique is source-language-oriented one (borrowing). In translating TVKU news text, the subject of the study applies four translation steps. To conclude, the translator’s cognitive concept affects his decision to translate the text.</em>

In the translation of cultural words, Domestication and Foreignization strategy is a kind of translation strategy that is widely applied by translators. The tendency to use one of these strategies in a translation work can be identified through the analysis of translation techniques. This article discusses the translation strategy of cultural words in Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk which had translated into Japanese, Parukku Mura no Odoriko. Through the identification and analysis of translation techniques, it is known that the cultural words in Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk is translated into Japanese using several techniques: (1) borrowing, (2) paraphrase, (3) using cultural words which equivalence in target language, (4) using generic words, (5) using neutral words . From the results of calculating the amount of usage of each technique, it is known that the borrowing and paraphrase is the most widely used techniques, so it can be concluded that in this translation used the strategy of foreignization. Foreignization is the strategy that focuses on the source text, as an interpreter attempt to maintain the concept of culture As well as the socio-cultural values of Javanese society as in the original novel. The fact raises the assumption that Parukku Mura no Odoriko lacks the tastes of readers in Japan because of the many foreign cultural concepts in the novel thus making the distance between the reader and the translation product itself.

Giving advice is a common speech act but potentially problematic as it may threaten the face of the hearer. The speaker will use politeness strategies to mitigate face threatening act in giving advice. Politeness strategies as mitigation are not only appeared in real conversation but also in fiction. Thus it raises a question how translators deal with politeness marker in giving advice in intercultural context. This paper aims at exploring the translation of politeness markers in giving advice used by the main characters in the novel Deception Point written by Dan Brown (2001). Data were the utterance of advices made by main characters in the novel Deception Point and its two Indonesian translation version. Data were taken by document analysis and focus group discussion in classifying the translation techniques. The result show that 1) there are only two main characters who give advice due to the felicity conditions of advice, 2) positive and negative politeness strategies are employed by the main characters in giving advice, 3) there is a change in the translation caused by the implementation of translation techniques to the politeness markers.

This study discusses the directive acts of the novel Bumi Cinta by Habiburrahman El Shirazy and the directive acts of the directive acts of the novel Cinta Cinta by Habiburrahman El Shirazy. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. The theory used is the theory of Harun Joko Prayitno. The data source of this research is a speech in the novel Bumi Cinta by Habiburrahman El Shirazy. The research data consisted of utterances cited by directive speech acts which included directive speech acts and directive speech acts in the novel Bumi Cinta by Habiburrahman El Shirazy. Data were obtained by referring to the competent free engage listening technique obtained by note taking. The validity of the data in this study uses theory triangulation. Research results in the novel Bumi Cinta found six forms of directive speech acts, on request, request, invitation, approval, criticism and prohibition. When viewed, the directive speech function of the novel Bumi Cinta has a variety of functions. The form of directive speech acts requires the functions of ordering, commanding, asking, activating and letting. The form of directive speech acts requests, requests, hopes and offers. The form of speech act directive invitation has the function of inviting, persuading, supporting and asking. The form of directive speech acts to support the functions of advising, asking, asking and reminding. The form of directive speech acts of criticism has the function of reprimanding and winning. The form of directive speech acts have a ban function.

This research discusses about the types of responding of requesting speech act used in the novel the Heroes of Olympus Series, describes the translation techniques usage and assess the translation quality in terms of acceptability. This research can be classified as a descriptive qualitative research which focuses on a single case. The source data of this research are the documents and persons, i.e. the novel The Heroes of Olympus series and those called raters who have competencies in assessing translation quality. The methods to collect and analyze the data of responding of requesting speech act were applied content analysis and Forum Group Discussion. The result of this research shows the discovery of 11 types of responding of requesting speech act such as agreeing, commenting, informing, explaining, committing, etc. Based on the techniques that are proposed by Molina Albir (2002), there are 17 translation techniques found in this research, which is, from the analysis of 89 data of responding of requesting speech act in source text and target text, found 564 times the use of its translation techniques. And, in general, the resulting of translation quality in the form of acceptability assessment in this study tends to be good because the average is 2.86, with the majority of applying Establish equivalent technique that gives a positive impact on the translation quality.

This research article discusses one of the translation strategies namely paraphrase. The method used is a mixed method of descriptive-comparative method with both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. The data source is the translation of a novel, Tarian Bumi written in Indonesian language as the source language text and ‘Earth Dance’ in English as the target language text. The data used for this research are taken from the first part of the novel. The background of this research is the phenomenon showing that from all the sentences in the first part of the novel, more than 50% are being paraphrased. To identify what linguistic units are paraphrased, what kinds of paraphrase involved and which paraphrase is used more than others are the objectives of this research. The results show that the paraphrases involve all linguistic units ranging from word, phrase, clause, to sentence. The paraphrase can be used individually or in a combination consisting of two paraphrases and among the four kinds of paraphrase, the explicative paraphrase is used more than others either it is used individually or in combination.

Sarcasm is a harsher style of satire in hurtful jokes with a specific purpose. Sarcasm is the dominant language style used in Mark Manson's The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck. This study aims to identify sentence forms of sarcasm and analyze the translation quality of sarcastic expressions. This translation study employs a qualitative descriptive design. The research data takes the form of sentences containing sarcasm and its translation. The data is collected through document analysis, interviews, and focus group discussions. The results showed four types of sarcasm in the book The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck, including ridicule, satire, proximity, and humor. Besides, the translation quality of the book The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck has a high level of accuracy, acceptability, and readability, evidenced by the proper use of eleven translation techniques applied by the translator to 145 data. The frequent techniques contributing to the quality of translation are compensation, adaptation, transposition, and modulation techniques.

Abstrak: Penelitian ini berujudul Hegemoni Kekuasaan Dalam Novel Hujan Karya Tere Liye dan Relevansinya Dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMA. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mndeskripsikan formasi ideologi, bentuk hegemoni kekuasaan, dan relevansi penelitian dengan pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMA. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah novel Hujan karya Tere Liye. Data penelitian berupa kata, frasa, atau kalimat yang memuat formasi ideologi dan bentuk hegemoni dalam novel Hujan karya Tere Liye, serta relevansinya dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMA. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan baca dan catat. Teknik analisis data menggunakan content analysis. Validitas dan reliabilitas menggunakan validitas semantik dan intrarater. Hasil penelitian ini antara lain: 1) Pertama, Formasi ideologi dalam novel Hujan karya Tere Liye. Formasi ideologi yang ditemukan dalam novel Hujan karya Tere Liye yaitu otoritarisme, feodalisme, kapitalisme, liberalisme, sosialisme, serta vandalisme. Otoritarisme merupakan formasi ideologi yang paling banyak muncul dalam novel. 2) Kedua, bentuk hegemoni kekuasaan terjadi dalam masyarakat sipil dan masyarakat politik. 3) Ketiga, Relevansi penelitian dengan pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMA. Penelitian ini relevan dengan KD. 3.8 Mengidentifikasi nilai-nilai kehidupan yang terkandung dalam kumpulan cerpen yang dibaca. Melalui novel Hujan karya Tere Liye, siswa dapat mengapresiasi karya sastra sehingga menambah pengalaman, pengetahuan, dan wawasan yang dapat digunakan sebagai media untuk membentuk kepribadian diri. Kata kunci: formasi ideologi, hegemoni, relevansi pembelajaran, novel Abstract: This research entitle “The Hegemony of Power in Novel Hujan by Tere Liye and Its Relevance in Indonesia learning at High School” has aims to describe the ideology formation, term of hegemony power, and the research relevance with Indonesia learning at high school. This research is a qualitative descriptive with data source is Npvel Hujan by Tere Liye. Research data are words, phrases pr sentences which has ideology formation and hegemony term and also the relevance with Indonesia learning at high school. Read and write were used to collect the data. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. Semantics and intrarater were used to test the validity and reliability. The reserach findings were : 1) the ideology formations were authoritarian, feudalism, capitalism, liberalism, socialism, and vandalism. Authoritarian was dominant in the novel, 2) the term of hegemony happened both in civil society and political society, 3) the relevance of this research with Indonesia learning at high school. This research was relevant with basic competence 3.8 (identify the life values in a short story. Novel hujan brught student to appreciate the literatures to enrich their experience, knowledge and insight to create the personality.  Keywords : Ideology formation, hegemony, learning relevance, novel.

This study aims to: (i) analyze the tree diagram structure of sentence patterns found in the data source, (ii) analyze the types of translation shifts of sentence patterns in the translation process from source language into target language. The novel entitled “Buddha” is a non-fiction book by Karen Armstrong. It tells about an examination of the life, times, and lasting influence of Siddharta Gautama with core tenets of Buddhism introduced throughout history. This research focuses on The Syntax Analysis and Its Translation Found on Sentence Patterns in the Novel entitled “Buddha”. This study aims at analyzing the tree diagram structure and the types of translation shifts found in the novel entitled “Buddha”. The analysis uses the theory of sentence patterns from Quirk and Greenbaum and the theory of translations shift proposed by Catford. The process of collecting data was started by reading the entire data source to understand the story in the novel entitled “Buddha” and observe the data of sentence patterns that can be taken from the story entitled “Buddha”. In the method of collecting data, the data source was read to find out complex sentences and simple sentence found in the story. The finding of the research is that there are seven sentence patterns that are translated by applying unit shift. The researcher uses the theories to support this research. Those are syntax, types of sentences, sentence pattern, tree diagram, and relevant previous studies. Syntax is stated as one of the branches that focus on the sentence structure. This research study uses theory of translation shift proposed by Catford
