Semarang city has golden triangle corridor as a commercial corridor in the present day. But, in the past, the city had three corridors (bigger than now). There were Bodjong street (now known as Pemuda street, part of Groote Postweg 1809-1811),  Mataram  street (now Mt. Haryono road - the road that connects the old Semarang port to the Mataram kingdom in inland Java) and Veteran road (the road linking the western side of the city to the street Mataram, to avoid the downtown area which was a swamp area). There were traditional markets in each part of the node of triangle corridors (Johar, Randu Sari and Peterongan ) that still exist until now. This study aims to reveal the organization of city structure at that time. By using the historical method and a naturalistic approach were found that the formation of triangle corridor has a function as economic lingkage and economics place, connecting and attracting each other. In the city development,  these markets become magnet and strategic node as  a place for economic activity. It was formed by the existence of  markets, functioning as the magnet for circulations dan be a place for the community. The existence of traditional villages along the corridors which have toponyms based on community economic activity at that time, became evident that the economic linkage has been formed in the past. This phenomenon has become a new knowledge that can be applied to the government for creating the concept of a city walk/ shopping belt corridor based on local wisdom of the urban planning in the past. Recommendations of this study is to preserve and develop the urban design in the past, so it can be utilized in the present situation.

The structures and the functions of a city, its morphology, numerous elements of created places have an identity recognisable in the past, present and future. This identity is visible and noticeable. It is remembered and its represents the picture of a city at any chosen time and space. It is present and repeatable both in real time and space and in our imagined world. It represents a sum of chosen pictures of space in a certain time. The subjective experience of the city (place) is thus equalled with the discontinuity of processes and flows of the city development and what a city is and what it should be. Spatially – time continuity of the development of the city is much more complicated and complex picture that, unfortunately, is not visible and memorised enough unless based on deeper analytical procedure and supported by technical – technological systems of contemporary simulation and modelling of space and time. The city is a continuous creation where only the part of its reality and our experience is visible. The other part consists of invisible processes that maintain this continuity and that need not be clearly visible and familiar. They are obtained by mentioned analyses of integrated space and time (space-time) and represent a sort of balance to the visible state of a city structure. The architects and urbanists, but also other participants in the creation and maintenance of city content need that balance in the process of giving thought out procedures and guidelines for planning and design where the knowledge on the relation of causes and consequences is inevitable.

This study explains and describes one of the Artificial Terms Network methods, namely Backpropagation, where this method can predict what will happen in the future using data and information in the past. This study aims to predict the birth rate in the city of Batam to help the government with the family planning program. The data used is the annual data on the number of births in the city of Batam in 2016-2020 at The Civil Registry Office. To facilitate the analysis of research data, the data were tested using Matlab R2015b. In this study, the training process was carried out using 3 network architectures, namely 4-10-1, 5-18-1, and 4-43-1. Of these 3 architectures, the best is the 4-43-1 architecture with an accuracy rate of 91% and an MSE value of 0.0012205. The Backpropagation method can predict the amount of population growth in the city of Batam based on existing data in the past.           Keywords: artificial neural network; backpropagation; prediction   Abstrak: Pertumbuhan jumlah penduduk diindonesia yang setiap tahun meningkat dengan pesat, maka untuk membantu pemerintah mengendalikan jumlah pertumbuhan penduduk melalui program keluarga berencana khususnya dikota Batam. Abstract. ICT is one of the technological enablers of a smart city which facilitates the developments in various sectors of the community such as in governance, transportation, education, safety, tourism, and communication. Development of smartphone applications have directly contributed to areas of smart living, smart people, smart governance, and smart mobility as it provides several features catering digital services in the city and flexible utilization of the city services. However, smart city development is not merely the creation of digital services for the citizens but instead involves a two-way communication between the government and citizen’s collaborative processes and digital participation. The purpose of this paper is to provide a framework for a mobile tool wherein people can easily access the most essential everyday city services and in the same manner provide the city authorities to gather relevant information from the application through review of literature and other relevant documents.

Smart city is a major discussion in metropolitan planning and governance as it involves using technology to create livable spaces for the present and the future; it also considers issues of mobility, governance, economy and energy production. The innovation of smart city initiative can be beneficial to urban planning and policies for house provision. The housing challenge is a prominent issue in Lagos, the economic capital of Nigeria with more than 20 million inhabitants. Despite the attempts by the Lagos state government to create low-cost housing for citizens living and working in the city, there are still enormously high housing deficits because of the city’s overpopulation and limited resources. The city still lacks adequate infrastructures for mobility, networking and affordable housing as some people come from other states to work in the state; this has increased the urban carbon emissions. Yet, emerging discourses on housing infrastructure have rarely engaged the smart city question in urban governance of Lagos. Although there is a plethora of literature interrogating urbanization processes and housing, there are feeble attempts at explaining the notion of the smart city as the panacea for infrastructural inadequacies and urban development. This research examines the concept of smart city and its implication for urban governance structures and affordable housing in Lagos, drawing information and data from interviews and relevant secondary sources. The relevance of this study is to the government, private sector and architectural community is formulating policies through the application of the smart city concept in a megacity in a developing country like Lagos.
