AbstractTwo wet-end starches (potato and barley), one surface sizing starch (barley) and one coating binder starch (barley) were jet-cooked. Samples were collected and stored at 90, 60 and 40 °C. 1H NMR-relaxometry and viscometry were used to monitor the jet-cooked solutions as they cooled to room temperature. Samples stored at different temperatures were also monitored using 1H NMR-relaxometry and viscometry. A sediment formed into the surface sizing and coating binder starches stored at 90 °C. The sediment and supernatant were separated and collected, and measured using 1H NMR-relaxometry. The {T_{2}} relaxation rates of jet-cooked starches showed significant differences between potato and barley starches, as had also been examined in previous studies. The NMR method was also sensitive to differences in solids content and chemical modification (degree of cationization, degree of oxidation and molecular weight). The cooking temperature, cooking speed and viscosity did not influence {T_{2}} relaxation rates. The sediment separated from the surface sizing and coating binder starches held at 90 °C had a significantly higher relaxation rate than the supernatant, indicating that the sediment contained a high amount of retrograded starch.

The insertion of isonitriles R' NC (R' = t-Bu, C6H11, CH2C6H5) occurs exclusively into the Ta—CH2 bonds of the zwitterionic compounds (C5H4R)2Ta[CH2B(C6F5)3]CH3 (R = H, 1a; R = CH3, 1b) at relatively slow rates at room temperature to form N-out isomers as the sole kinetic products. By comparison, insertion of the same isonitrile substrates into a Ta—CH3 bond of the non-zwitterionic analogs [(C5H4R)2Ta(CH3)2][A] (R = H, A = B(C6F5)4, 3a; R = CH3, A = BF4, 3b) occurs much more rapidly, again to form N-out isomers exclusively under kinetic conditions. The difference in rate is attributed to the presence of a ground state α-agostic interaction in the zwitterionic compounds, which is not featured in the dimethyl ion pairs. All of the N-out isomers formed undergo thermal and irreversible conversion to the corresponding N-in isomers at rates that are conveniently followed by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The rates were studied at different temperatures to obtain activation parameters for each transformation. The rate and activation trends for this isomerization were analyzed as a function of the structural changes in the compounds. It was found that the rate decreased as the steric bulk of the isonitrile substitutent R' increased and that the rates were faster for the series that incorporated the more electron-donating C5H4CH3 ancillary ligand. Furthermore, isomerization rates for the zwitterionic N-out compounds were faster than those found in the non-zwitterionic series. This study represents one of the more extensive kinetic analyses of the rate of N-out to N-in isomerization as a function of structural changes. The observations are consistent with the mechanistic picture that has been developed for this process, involving dissociation of the η2 iminoacyl ligand, rotation about the M—Ciminoacyl bond and recoordination to the inside site of the metallocene wedge. The present study aims at the investigation of the changes in water distribution among the organic components of selected honey samples following honey storage at different temperatures. Results, achieved by application of fast field cycling NMR relaxometry, revealed that the organic constituents were homogeneously distributed within the whole samples stored at room temperature. Conversely, after four months of refrigeration at 4°C, the organic systems were included in persistent clusters, as a consequence of the water release due to the larger stability of the intramolecular interactions over the intermolecular ones. The new conformational arrangements of the honey constituents entailed enhancement of honey moisture content. For this reason, it can be suggested that honey refrigeration prior to storage at room temperature may be detrimental for its long-term storage. In fact, higher risk of fermentation may occur once the sample is warmed after the first refrigeration step.

Melon fruit (Cucumis melo L.) from Chando, Concorde, Explorer, and Durango hybrids, collected from a Sante Ines farmer from Rio Tocuyo, were stored at 5, 10, and 18°C and room temperature for 7, 14, and 21 days with the objective of getting the response of melon hybrids in relation to quality characteristics. The soluble solids content and dry matter were not significant in the studied hybrids, titratable acidity was higher at 5°C, Chando had the highest values. Explorer had the highest pH values and soluble solids: titratable acid ratio at room temperature. Reducing and total sugars had the lowest values at 18°C and room temperature, Chando had the highest values. Concorde had the highest values for fresh weight loss at room temperature during 21 days of storage.

SummaryGelchromatography column scanning has been used to study the fractions of 99mTc-pertechnetate, 99mTcchelate and reduced hydrolyzed 99mTc in preparations of 99mTc-EDTA(Sn) and 99mTc-DTPA(Sn). The labelling yield of 99mTc-EDTA(Sn) chelate was as high as 90—95% when 100 μmol EDTA · H4 and 0.5 (Amol SnCl2 was incubated with 10 ml 99mTceluate for 30—60 min at room temperature. The study of the influence of the pH-value on the fraction of 99mTc-EDTA shows that pH 2.8—2.9 gave the best labelling yield. In a comparative study of the labelling kinetics of 99mTc-EDTA(Sn) and 99mTc- DTPA(Sn) at different temperatures (7, 22 and 37°C), no significant influence on the reduction step was found. The rate constant for complex formation, however, increased more rapidly with increased temperature for 99mTc-DTPA(Sn). At room temperature only a few minutes was required to achieve a high labelling yield with 99mTc-DTPA(Sn) whereas about 60 min was required for 99mTc-EDTA(Sn). Comparative biokinetic studies in rabbits showed that the maximum activity in kidneys is achieved after 12 min with 99mTc-EDTA(Sn) but already after 6 min with 99mTc-DTPA(Sn). The long-term disappearance of 99mTc-DTPA(Sn) from the kidneys is about five times faster than that for 99mTc-EDTA(Sn).

AbstractWe study the H NMR line shapes of a sample of a-Si:H under several conditions: 1) as grown, 2) light-soaked for 600 hours, and 3) light-soaked followed by annealing at different temperatures. At T = 7 K, the NMR line shape of the sample after light soaking exhibits an additional doublet compared to that of the sample as-grown. This doublet is an indication of a closely separated hydrogen pair. The distance between the two hydrogen atoms is estimated to be about (2.3 ± 0.2) Å. The concentration of these hydrogen sites is estimated to be between 1017 and 1018 cm-3 consistent with ESR measurements of the defect density after light soaking. This doublet disappears after the sample is annealed at 200°C for 4 hours.

The increasing demand for polymer composites with novel or improved properties requires novel fillers. To meet the challenges posed, nanofillers such as graphene, carbon nanotubes, and titanium dioxide (TiO2) have been used. In the present work, few-layer graphene (FLG) and iron oxide (Fe3O4) or TiO2 were used as fillers in a room-temperature-vulcanized (RTV) silicone rubber (SR) matrix. Composites were prepared by mixing RTV-SR with nanofillers and then kept for vulcanization at room temperature for 24 h. The RTV-SR composites obtained were characterized with respect to their mechanical, actuation, and magnetic properties. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis was performed to investigate the composite raw materials and finished composites, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis was used to study composite surface elemental compositions. Results showed that mechanical properties were improved by adding fillers, and actuation displacements were dependent on the type of nanofiller used and the applied voltage. Magnetic stress-relaxation also increased with filler amount and stress-relaxation rates decreased when a magnetic field was applied parallel to the deformation axes. Thus, this study showed that the inclusion of iron oxide (Fe3O4) or TiO2 fillers in RTV-SR improves mechanical, actuation, and magnetic properties.

Spectroscopic properties of neodymium-doped yttrium lithium fluoride were measured at different temperatures from 35 K to 350 K in specimens with 1 at% Nd3+ concentration. The absorption spectrum was measured at room temperature from 400 to 900 nm. The decay dynamics of the 4F3/2 multiplet was investigated by measuring the fluorescence lifetime as a function of the sample temperature, and the radiative decay time was derived by extrapolation to 0 K. The stimulated-emission cross-sections of the transitions from the 4F3/2 to the 4I9/2, 4I11/2, and 4I13/2 levels were obtained from the fluorescence spectrum measured at different temperatures, using the Aull–Jenssen technique. The results show consistency with most results previously published at room temperature, extending them over a broader range of temperatures. A semi-empirical formula for the magnitude of the stimulated-emission cross-section as a function of temperature in the 250 K to 350 K temperature range, is presented for the most intense transitions to the 4I11/2 and 4I13/2 levels.

The presence of yeasts in milk may cause physical and chemical changes limiting the durability and compromising the quality of the product. Moreover, milk and dairy products contaminated by yeasts may be a potential means of transmission of these microorganisms to man and animals causing several kinds of infections. This study aimed to determine whether different species of yeasts isolated from bovine raw milk had the ability to develop at 37°C and/or under refrigeration temperature. Proteinase and phospholipase activities resulting from these yeasts were also monitored at different temperatures. Five genera of yeasts (Aureobasidium sp., Candida spp., Geotrichum spp., Trichosporon spp. and Rhodotorula spp.) isolated from bovine raw milk samples were evaluated. All strains showed one or a combination of characteristics: growth at 37°C (99·09% of the strains), psychrotrophic behaviour (50·9%), proteinase production (16·81% of the strains at 37°C and 4·09% under refrigeration) and phospholipase production (36·36% of the isolates at 37°C and 10·9% under refrigeration), and all these factors may compromise the quality of the product. Proteinase production was similar for strains incubated at 37°C (16·81% of the isolates) and room temperature (17·27%) but there was less amount of phospholipase-producing strains at room temperature (15·45% of the isolates were positive) when compared with incubation at 37°C (36·36%). Enzymes production at 37°C by yeasts isolated from milk confirmed their pathogenic potential. The refrigeration temperature was found to be most efficient to inhibit enzymes production and consequently ensure better quality of milk. The viability of yeasts and the activity of their enzymes at different temperatures are worrying because this can compromise the quality of dairy products at all stages of production and/or storage, and represent a risk to the consumer.

AlGaN/GaN E/D-mode GaN inverters are successfully fabricated on a 150-mm Si wafer. P-GaN gate technology is applied to be compatible with the commercial E-mode GaN power device technology platform and a systematic study of E/D-mode GaN inverters has been conducted with detail. The key electrical characters have been analyzed from room temperature (RT) to 200 °C. Small variations of the inverters are observed at different temperatures. The logic swing voltage of 2.91 V and 2.89 V are observed at RT and 200 °C at a supply voltage of 3 V. Correspondingly, low/high input noise margins of 0.78 V/1.67 V and 0.68 V/1.72 V are observed at RT and 200 °C. The inverters also demonstrate small rising edge time of the output signal. The results show great potential for GaN smart power integrated circuit (IC) application.

Poly(dichlorophosphazene) was prepared by melt ring-opening polymerization of the hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene. Poly[bis(2-hydroxyethyl-methacrylate)-phosphazene] and poly[(2-hydroxyethyl-methacrylate)-graft-poly(lactic-acid)-phosphazene] were obtained by nucleophilic condensation reactions at different concentrations of the substituents. The properties of the synthesized copolymers were assessed by FTIR,1H-NMR and31P-NMR, thermal analysis (DSC-TGA), and electron microscopy (SEM). The copolymers have a block structure and show twoTg's below room temperature. They are stable up to a temperature of 100°C. The type of the substituents attached to the PZ backbone determines the morphology of the polymers.
