The article presents a bibliographic index compiled in the Wro- blewski Library of the Academy of Science and discusses the significance of a personal bibliography for biographical studies. This is the first and so far the only comprehensive index encompassing both Basanavičius’s own publications and writings about him. The first part of the index, dealing with writings by Basanavičius, was published in 2015. The second part, concerning literature on him, is currently under preparation. Both biographical studies and research in other scientific fields will benefit from the following aspects of the bibliography: it offers clarification on Ba- sanavičius’s pseudonyms and contains entries for his anonymously published works, documents signed by him, and repeated editions of his writings. It also provides citation data, i.e., information on who cited Basanavičius’s works or commented on them. The bibliography will be useful in studying Basanavičius’s biography, the subject variety in his writings, their dissemination and popularity, as well as the historical circumstances in that time period. The bibliography also will be of use in writing a scientific biography of Basanavičius or a monograph about him, as well as in preparing a comprehensive edition of his writings.Based on the example of the bibliography of Basanavičius, it may be stated that a personal bibliography is an important source for biographical studies, which may be instrumental in creating a comprehensive biographical portrait of an individual.

The syntactic system in the Erzya and Finnish languages in comparative terms still remains insufficiently studied, in particular, regarding the syntactic location of such a minor part of a sentence as adverbial modifier. The relevance of the research topic is conditioned by the fact that in the Erzya and Finnish languages the location of adverbial modifiers depends not only on the purpose of the sentence and the part they refer to, but also on the parts of speech. The purpose of the work is to characterize and compare the location of adverbial modifier in the languages. The subject is the location of the adverbial modifier in the modern Erzya and Finnish languages. The material of the study was the adverbial modifiers in the Finno-Ugric languages in simple and complex sentences. In the course of the study, a comparative method was used. The research showed the following facts: from several adverbial modifier of time, the first place in the sentence is given to the adverbial modifier indicating a longer time period and the second one is to the adverbial modifier defining the former. If several adverbial modifiers are combined in one sentence, the adverbial modifier of time goes first, then there is an adverbial modifier of place. In the studied languages, adverbial modifiers of manner, place, time, purpose can be found at the beginning of the sentence, and at the end.

The presented study includes an analysis of the category of “good” on the basis of philosophy and economics. Particular attention was paid here to the factors determining the monetary value (price) of an economic good. While achieving the assumed objective of the research, answers to the following questions were sought: What is the difference, therefore, in the interpretation of good as an axiological category and good which economics deals with? What is the basis for the valuation of goods which are the subject of economic analysis? While seeking answers to these questions, an attempt was made to justify the thesis according to which contemporary understanding of the way the market valuates goods is limited to accepting the price understood as a variable representing a kind of relationship set in a given time period.

For the uninitiated the subject of moral reform appears to be a topic best suited for examining the traditional view of the Latin American woman: that of a female preoccupied with sin and salvation and with no interest in the world outside the home or increased rights for her sex. Closer investigation reveals, however, that moral reform movements often have indicated women's active presence and concern about the direction of a nation's social policies and customs. (Addams, 1912: 160-195; Davis, 1973; Smith-Rosenberg, 1971: 381-385, 562-564). Involvement in moral reform activities often but not always has meant that a woman considered herself a feminist and believed that the goals of these two movements were inextricably linked together. In order to explore these two hypotheses, this essay will focus on Paulina Luisi (1875-1950), an Uruguayan doctor whose lifelong dedication to moral reform and feminism earned her an international reputation as a fighter for one sexual moral standard and women's rights (Mapons, 1950; Scarone, 1937: 284-289). Examining her extensive writings and many projects provides an excellent insight into two movements which claimed the loyalty of numerous women activists, both bourgeois and socialist, in Latin America, Europe, and the United States (Addams, 1912; Chataway, 1962; Lloyd, 1971; Luisi, 1948). Given the Latin American context and the time period, Luisi can be seen as a major figure in the international feminist and moral reform movements.

In recent years the study of divided government has been a growth industry. Numerous scholars have sought to explain patterns of divided government in the United States, while others have attempted to explore the consequences of the phenomenon. No doubt this scholarly interest in the subject is due in large part to the attention paid by the political media to divided control of the presidency and Congress during the 1980s, as well as the resulting ’gridlock‘ that dominated policy making in Washington during that time period.

In the deep coal mines of OKD, Inc., both bolts and long bolts of different designs are used for the rock massif and steel arch support reinforcement. Continuous measurement of forces in 6 strand bolts and 1 cable bolt (long bolts, generally) was carried out during the trial operation of the modified Room and pillar mining method at Mining operation 2, site North, OKD, Inc. Hydraulic dynamometers were installed on these long bolts and a monitoring of forces took place throughout the life-time period of the mining panel No. V. From this measurement, a knowledge of their different load behavior with respect to the input stress parameters was obtained. The input intensity of the force applied to the bolting elements is burdened by losses of various kinds. The subject of the article is a description and analysis of the intensity of the initial stressing force applied to individual long bolts (with a threaded clamping bush or wedge barrel) and quantization of short-term stress losses with a description and analysis of these.

As the subtitle says, this is a book of bird stories. The overall theme examines the population dynamics and evolution of some Australian inland birds in 12 separate essays, each by a different author or group of authors. It is apparent that the dates of preparation of these chapters cover an extended time period, one prepared by an author who died in 2001, and there is little attempt to integrate the stories. Each of the essays is well referenced and written by a respected authority on the bird, birds or topic that are the subject of the essay. In this way the book is authoritative, but it is also innovative, because it is clear that peer review has not been applied, or if applied then applied gently, because the authors have been allowed to speculate on the interpretations of the data they present. Modern journal editors and peer reviewers do their best to eliminate such speculation and yet it is from the presentation of such untested ideas that inquiry begins and science advances. The editors are to be applauded for taking this approach.

As an important pioneering city in western China, Chongqing’s urbanization and tourism development have brought increasing pressure on the eco-environmental system. This paper presents a comprehensive index system for assessment of the level of tourism based on four aspects: market size, tourism economy, tourism resources, and tourism services. In this paper, we use five indices—economic urbanization, demographic urbanization, social urbanization, spatial urbanization, and cultural urbanization—to establishe a comprehensive index system for urbanization. The developed index system also characterizes the eco-environment based on three factors: eco-environmental pressure, eco-environmental response, and eco-environmental state. A coupling coordination degree model (CCDM) focusing on the degree of coupling coordination between tourism, urbanization, and the eco-environment was established using panel data collected from 2000 to 2017 for Chongqing, China. In addition, we used the gray prediction model to predict the degree of coupling coordination of the three systems in Chongqing from 2018 to 2023. The results showed that (1) overall, despite the twists and turns in the middle of the time period, the degree of coupling coordination of the three systems has become increasingly coordinated over time; (2) the three parameters (α-tourism, ß-urbanization, and d-eco-environmental) that have been widely used in previous studies had little effect on the coupling coordinated system; and (3) according to the prediction results, the degree of coupling coordination of the three systems will continue to rise slowly, and the cooperation between the three systems will be close to perfect by 2023, which means that the development of one system will greatly drive the other two systems.

The question of the interaction of language and law is one of the main issues occupying the minds of both the linguists and jurists of our time. The study of the intersection of these scientific fields acquires even more importance nowadays as expansion of economic and cultural cooperation between countries and within countries requires legal regulation, qualified assistance of lawyers and their participation in negotiations, business meetings and in the preparation of documentation. Accordingly, linguistic and translation activities in the sphere of legal relations turn out to be of special significance. Like other functional styles of speech, which are independent systems, the style of official documents has certain communicative goals as well as its own consistent patterns and language characteristics common to the given style. The latter are the subject of the present article.
