Three forms of pediculosis affect the human host, each with a predilection for certain parts of the body. Pediculosis capitis. or head lice, is the most common type and is seen primarily in preschool and school-age children, especially girls. Transmission occurs by coming into direct contact with lice or by sharing infested brushes, combs, and hats. Adult lice and their eggs (nits) are found principally in the occipital region and behind the ears. Symptoms include severe itching, often resulting in excoriation and secondary bacterial infection. Pediculosis pubis is seen most commonly in sexually active adolescents and young adults, although occasionally it may be found on the eyelashes of small children who come in contact with infected individuals.

Dietary habit is behaviors that are appropriate for the selection of the right foods so that they will provide good nutritional status. Nutrients that consist of macronutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and micro substances such as vitamins and minerals needed by the body for the process of growth and development. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between eating patterns with the nutritional status and cognitive abilities of elementary school children. Cross-Sectional research design. The population in this study were all students as many as 367 students, the sampling used was a Stratified random sampling technique, a sample of 192 respondents. Data analysis uses the Spearman Rank Rho statistical test. The results of the analysis of dietary variables with nutritional status were obtained ρ (0.003) <α (0.05), so H0 was rejected, meaning that there was a relationship between eating patterns and nutritional status of school-age children, with a value of r = 0.210 which showed a high positive correlation. The results of the analysis of nutritional status variables with cognitive abilities obtained results ρ = 0.00, <α = 0.05. meaning that there is a relationship between nutritional status and cognitive learning achievement in elementary school children. Normal nutritional status can be obtained by applying a positive diet so that the intake that enters the body in accordance with the needs of the body. Children who have normal nutritional status have good cognitive abilities. Parents are the most important support in optimizing children's growth and development

Anthropometric evaluation is an essential feature of pediatric evaluation. Different countries use different approaches in pediatric growth assessment. The article presents a comparative analysis of the body length (BL) indicators of modern school-age children in St. Petersburg with regional standards (1991) and international standards (WHO Growth Reference 2007). Anthropometric evaluation was conducted among 6207 children aged 7 to 17 years; the median, standard deviation and centile distribution of the BL values of school-age children were determined. We found that the values of BL of modern school-age children are higher than that their peers had thirty years ago; in boys, the maximum difference is found during the pubertal growth spurt; Non-parametric and parametric indicators of BL in senior pupils of St. Petersburg are higher than in the standards of the World Health Organization; in junior schoolchildren no difference was found. The data we obtained create the prerequisites for the development of modern regional standards for growth assessment of children and school-age children in St. Petersburg and their practical use for pediatric examinations.

Objective. To evaluate vitamin D status and deficiency in Mexican children and related factors, with updated data from a representative national survey. Materials and methods. Data and serum samples of child participants were collected in the Ensanut 2018-19. The measurement 25-(OH)-D was obtained through chemiluminescence. Height and weight, as well as dietary information, were measured using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire and sociodemographic information. Results. Data of 4 691 children aged 1-11 years were analyzed. Vitamin D deficiency (25-OH-D<50 nmol/L) was found in 27.3% of pre-school-age children and 17.2% of school-age children, and was positively associated with the body mass index (BMI). Main dietary sources were milk, eggs and dairy products, which in combination provided >70% of vitamin D intake. Conclusions. Vitamin D deficiency is important in Mexican children. Actions and programs to fight this deficiency are required.

The Society for Pediatric Dermatology conducted its 15th Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA, August 8 to 11, 1990, and the Section on Dermatology of the American Academy of Pediatrics met during the Academy's Annual Fall Meeting in Boston, MA, October 7, 1990. Topics presented at these meetings that are of interest to pediatricians are presented in summary form below. MEETING OF THE SOCIETY FOR PEDIATRIC DERMATOLOGY Advances in the Treatment of Infestations Head lice and scabies are common infestations affecting infants and children. Until recently, the preferred treatment for these conditions was the application of 1% lindane (Kwell) to the scalp in cases of pediculosis capitis, and to the body in cases of scabies. However, questions about lindane's safety and efficacy have been raised. First, neurotoxicity may occur as the result of systemic absorption of lindane during the treatment of scabies, though such adverse reactions have been reported only rarely and, in nearly all instances, were associated with excessive use of the product.1 Second, recent reports of lindanetolerant infestations have questioned the product's efficacy. As a result, considerable effort has been devoted to the development of newer treatments that offer enhanced safety and efficacy. David Taplin, Professor of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, Epidemiology and Public Health of the University of Miami School of Medicine, reviewed cutaneous infestations in children and emphasized the therapeutic advantages offered by permethrin. Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid, an agent related to pyrethrins, naturally occurring insecticides found in flowers of the genus Chrysanthemum.2 In the United States, two new permethrin formulations are being marketed, Nix Creme Rinse (1 % permethrin) for use in treatment of head lice and Elimite cream (5% permethrin) for use in scabies.

Equilibrium represents the motor capability responsible for the performance of virtually all functional movements. Thus, the importance of early diagnosis of equilibrium levels in boys and girls was recognized as the key factor for the prevention of motor deficits and muscles misbalances later in life. Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to show the difference between boys and girls aged 7‒10 years in the level of unilateral static balance of the take-off leg. Methods: Research was conducted at the Kvarner Athletics Club Rijeka, and it involved 80 children aged 7‒10 years (38 boys and 42 girls). Measurement of static unilateral equilibrium was obtained using Gyko Inertial System (Microgate, Bolzano, Italy). Three attempts were made in 20 seconds and two motor variables were observed: medio-lateral and antero-posterior trajectories of the body. For both variables, the arithmetic mean, the minimum and maximum score and standard deviation were calculated. Moreover, a non-parametric method of the Mann-Whitney U test was used to determine statistical significance between boys and girls. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results: Statistically, girls have significantly better results compared to boys, both in the medio-lateral trajectory variable (M_Sumg = 335.1, M_Sumb = 479.34) and the antero-posterior trajectory variable (M_Sumg = 291.14, M_Sumb = 411.71). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that girls aged 7‒10 years achieved significantly better results compared to boys in observed motor variables (medio-lateral and antero-posterior trajectory of the body), when performing a static unilateral take-off leg balance test. These results are consistent with previous research. Indications for such results stem from different perspectives, among which the most common one refers to the earlier maturation of the systems responsible for postural control in female bodies. Recommendation for further research is to conduct examination on a larger sample of subjects, in younger children (pre-school age) and with both legs.

The Census Bureau reports that 5.2 percent of school-age children (2.8 million) were reported to have a disability. The American Community Survey defines a person with a disability as a person having a “vision, hearing, cognitive, ambulatory, self-care, or independent living difficulty.” Per the American Community Survey, the most common type of disability diagnosed in school-age children is cognitive disability, which they define as “serious difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions.”

AbstractIntroduction: Physical fitness is expressed by the function of the motor apparatus, the capacity of organs and systems of the body, as well as motor abilities and life activity. Motor and physical development of children with hearing loss due to a damage of the hearing organ can differ from their hearing peers. The hearing organ dysfunctions can have adverse effect on motricity due to its connections with the nervous system and semicircular canals.Material and methods: The present study comprised 60 school-age children; the experimental group consisted of 30 girls and boys with hearing loss, while the control group included 30 hearing girls and boys. The children’s age varied between 9 and 11 years; the mean age was 9.75 years. In both groups of children their body mass index was calculated and their overall physical fitness was assessed using the Eurofit - European Physical Fitness Test. Results: It was found that hearing impairment was mainly connected with the worse sense of balance, lower velocity of upper limb movements and decreased level of agility, i.e. indirectly with worse motor coordination. In addition, it was proved that generally girls manifested a better sense of balance and flexibility, whereas boys showed a higher static and dynamic strength and better agility and endurance. Conclusions: The study confirmed the hypothesis that children with hearing loss have lower overall physical fitness than their hearing peers. Therefore there is a need to develop motor abilities in children with hearing loss by involving them in deliberate and systematic physical activity.

According to the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Russia, the health status of children and adolescents in the Russian Federation is characterized by the following indicators: more than half of school-age children have impaired health; two-thirds of children under 14 have chronic diseases; only 10-15 percent of graduates of general education institutions can be classified as healthy. In recent decades, with the development of nutrigenomics, the world community of scientists has come to understand the importance of the role of the microbiota in the human body and its relation with nutrition. Normal intestinal microbiota is involved in a variety of physiological functions of the body of school-age children: protective, digestive, detoxifying and anticarcinogenic, synthetic, genetic, immunogenic, metabolic, and others. Probiotic bacteria are one of the functional ingredients that have proven to have a positive effect on children's bodies. Methods of normoflora correction are proposed, aimed not only at restoring evolutionarily conditioned microbial populations, but also providing an effective impact on the individual organism.
