Cohesive devices in a piece of writing serve to unify sentences within a text. Building upon Halliday and Hasan’s (1976) Cohesion in English, this study aimed to identify and classify cohesive devices and also to discover the effects of cohesion overuse and underuse found in synopsis writings written for Book Report 1 and Book Report 2 assignment. The data were collected from 40 synopsis writings produced by the 4th and 5th semester students of English Study Program of Universitas Gadjah Mada. The data analysis applied a qualitative method and the data collection used purposive sampling technique. The findings showed that reiteration was the most prominently used type and followed by reference, conjunction, and collocation with the frequency 2,193 (56.94%), 1,405 (36.48%), 64 (2.92%), and 252 (6.54%) times respectively. Other types with low occurrences were elliptical and substitutional cohesion that occurred 3 (0.078%) and 2 (0.051%) times respectively. In some cases, students tended to overuse and underuse cohesive devices. In terms of cohesion overuse, in some cases, the use of reiteration leading to lexical redundancy and monotonous sentences. And in cohesion underuse, the lack of using personal reference and temporal conjunction yielding ineffective and less cohesive sentences.
Abstract : The recognized sexual orientation in Indonesia is heterosexual. This makes gays often get discrimination from people who are causing gay difficulties in interacting and seeking sexual relationships, so they should find ways to interact safely. Qualitative research with case study approach conducted in Surakarta aims to find out the utilization of social media in finding gay sexual relation. Sampling technique using purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted with in-depth interviews with gay as the main actors and documentation of recording interviews, screenshoot chat and gay activity in social media. Data analysis was conducted with the basis of four activities: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and verification using source triangulation. The results showed that social media became a safe enough tool for gays in searching for sexual relations. Gay feel their identity is more awake when interacting in social media. Social media is also instrumental in expanding the network of gay friends, this is considered quite important because gays assume that the more friends they have the greater their chances of getting sexual relations. Gay has a special trick in order to attract the attention of the same social media users by installing exciting status, installing photos and videos with seductive poses, and posting location information for easy access. Like no human is perfect, using social media to search for sexual relationships of gays also has some weaknesses. Nevertheless, social media has remained the main vehicle of most gays in Surakarta in search of sexual relations.
Keywords: Gay, social media, exploitation, sexual relations.

Abstract Background Despite many studies evaluating the effectiveness of integrated care, evidence remains inconsistent. There is increasing commentary pointing out the mismatch between the ability to capture the somewhat ‘illusive’ impact of integrated care initiatives and programmes, and the most appropriate way to do this. Focusing on methodology, this paper describes and critically reviews the experiences of SUSTAIN, a Horizon 2020 funded project (2015–2019) with the purpose of advancing knowledge and understanding of cross-European integrated care evaluation. SUSTAIN sought to improve integrated care initiatives for older people in seven countries, and to maximise the potential for knowledge transfer and application across Europe. The methods approach drew from implementation research, employing the participative Evidence Integration Triangle (EIT) and incorporating a mixed method, multiple embedded case study design. A core set of qualitative and quantitative indicators, alongside context and process data, were created and tested within four key project domains (person-centredness, prevention-orientation, safety and efficiency). The paper critically discusses the overall approach, highlighting the value of the EIT and case study design, and signalling the challenges of data collection with frail older people and stakeholder involvement at the sites, as well as difficulties developing the core set of indicators. Conclusions Lessons learned and recommendations for advancing integrated care evaluation are put forward that focus on the status of integrated care as a complex intervention and a process. The use of implementation research methods and case study design are recommended as an additional evaluation approach for researchers to consider, alongside suggested ways of improving methods of data collection with frail populations and cost analysis.
