The goal of the study was to examine how the type of informal number activity in which parents and their preschoolers engage and parents’ math-related beliefs relate to parent-child exploration of an advanced early number concept. Parents and their preschoolers (n = 46) engaged in a videotaped play session and parents were surveyed about their math-related beliefs. The findings indicate that the type of informal number activity that parents chose to play with their children predicted how frequently they explored an advanced early number concept with them. Additionally, some but not all parents’ math-related beliefs were related to parent-child number talk. These results suggest that identifying games that facilitate specific number concepts may be a good way for researchers to help parents and children explore more advanced early number concepts frequently. The results also highlight the need for additional research on the role of parents’ math-related beliefs in their support of their children’s early learning and school readiness.

Kata Kunci: Moral, Peran Orang Tua Moral development in childhood is still in a low level. Internationally, a great number of researchers have pointed out the significance of school–family relationship in the process of children’s transition to primary schools. However, only recently has it been a subject of research in Greece. The purpose of this particular research, which has a sample of 1602 pre-primary and primary school teachers, is to investigate teachers’ viewpoints on the role of parents in the process of their children’s transition to primary school. Data has been collected through the use of questionnaires. Statistical analysis has shown that the overwhelming majority of teachers consider cooperation with parents as necessary. They indicate that the most important factors for successful transition are parents’ level of trust in teachers, their views on schools and learning, and their support for the new situation their child experiences. As far as the most appropriate practices are concerned, almost all teachers mention updating parents at the beginning of the school year, while many suggest that parents and children visit primary schools and that common meetings of both kindergarten and primary school teachers with parents take place before school begins. It therefore seems that teachers acknowledge the role of parents in the process of transition and suggest appropriate practices for their participation.

ObjectiveSchool readiness is a condition or state indicating that the child is ready to learn in a formal educational set-up. The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of and factors associated with school readiness in urban schoolchildren in Ujjain, India.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted from February 2016 to March 2017. Two English-medium schools were conveniently selected. All children aged 5–7 years were eligible to participate. A subscale of Differential Ability Scales-Second Edition, namely ‘school readiness scale’, was used to assess school readiness in three major domains—early number concept, matching letter-like forms and phonological processing. Data on factors associated with school readiness were collected through parent interview. Quantile regression analysis was used to explore school readiness scores.ResultsThis study included 203 school-going children (105 boys and 98 girls) having a mean (SD) age of 67.7 (±0.51) months. The phonological processing and matching letter-like forms had 31.5% and 30.5% children, respectively, in lower quantiles (≤25th). The higher quantile (≥75th) scores were achieved for phonological processing and early number concept (47.7% and 44.8% children, respectively). The results of quantile regression showed negative association of school readiness scores with age of children, lower socioeconomic status and hospitalisation status, especially in the lower quantiles (≤25th). The 10th, 50th and 75th quantile scores were positively correlated with the increasing education status of the mother. Birth weight was positively associated with the median and higher quantile scores (≥75th).ConclusionsSchool readiness in a middle-class urban setting in India was negatively associated with lower age of the child, lower socioeconomic status, hospitalisation and positively correlated with increasing birth weight and maternal education. Lower quantile scores were achieved in matching letter-like forms, which measures complex visual–spatial processing, and phonological ability, which correlates with acquired verbal concepts. Focused interventions are needed to improve these skills.

This article originated from the author's curiosity about the close inner relationship between parents and children who memorize the Qur'an. For the author of the Qur'an, it is Allah's revelation that was sent down directly to Rasulullah Muhammad SAW through the angel Gabriel. For this reason, the holy book of the Qur'an, which is very sacred and is the word of Allah, cannot be memorized if the individual does not appreciate, understand the signs, and glorify Allah before reading and memorizing it. One of them is filial piety to parents and do good to them. The author conducted direct research on the right target, namely the children who memorized the Quran in SMP-based Pesantren Amanatul Ummah Pacet. The aim of the author to conduct research at this location is that the children in the institution focus on producing Al-Quran memorizers. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. Sources of data used are primary and secondary data sources and use data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, and documentation.

The article deals with the analysis of parents’ role in young people’s professional choice. The main aspects of this impact, traditionally considered in literature on these kinds of problems, have been mentioned in this article. A typology of interaction between parents and children in the process of professional choice has been given, based on this analysis. Moreover, the factors, which influenced the change of parents’ role in the professional choice of modern youth, have been considered in this article. These factors have led, on the one hand, to the increase of young people’s independence in choosing professions, which are quite new on the modern labour market and parents do not always know these professions. In addition, on the other hand, these factors have led to the decrease of the same independence, caused by the increase in the number of those who study on the contract basis, which is financially supported by parents. Based on this analysis, contradictions in interaction between parents and children in the process of professional choice have been found.

Dyslexia is a specific learning disorder due to difficulties in phonological processing that impacts on the fluency and reading comprehension ability. The aim of this research is to identify the role of parents’ attributional style and parent-child relationship in determining the level of self-esteem in children with dyslexia. There are 24 respondents who consist of the parent or the caregiver of children with dyslexia along with the child were invited to participate in this research. The method used in this research is a cross-sectional study design using a quantitative approach. The researcher used three different tests to measure the variables involved. Tests used in this research consist of Causal Dimensional Scale II, Parent-Child Relationship Inventory and Rosenberg’s Self Esteem Scale. Results showed there is a significant relationship between parents’ attributional style and level of self-esteem in children with dyslexia. Attributional style measured in this research consists of four dimensions namely, locus of causality, external control, stability, and personal control. However, only two of the dimensions mentioned above are significantly related to the level of self-esteem in children with dyslexia. The two dimensions are external control (r = 0.408, p > 0.05) and personal control (r = 0.557, p > 0.05). Whereas, results showed there is no significant relationship between the parent-child relationship and the level of self-esteem of children with dyslexia. In a nutshell, the role of parents’ attributional style in determining the level of self-esteem in children with dyslexia is notably significant while the relationship of parent-child does not influence the level of self-esteem in children with dyslexia.
