ABSTRACT: Composting and vermicomposting before addition to the soil is a viable alternative to the disposal of cattle manure. However, this residue has been used in the untreated form for seedling production. This study evaluated the use of cattle manure in natura, and the organic composted or vermicomposted variants of cattle manure on substrates used in the production of Eucalyptus urograndis seedlings. The treatments consisted of substrates formulated by mixing the organic fertilizers with washed sand in 20, 40, 60, 80 or 100 (v/v) percentages, compared to a commercial substrate. The E. urograndis seedlings were grown in tubes in a greenhouse and evaluated after 120 days for shoot and root dry weights, plant height, stem diameter, shoot/root ratio, and Dickson quality index. The substrate formulated from a mixture of 80% (v/v) of cattle manure in natura and washed sand allows for better development in Eucalyptus seedlings. Substrate containing 100% bovine manure vermicompost or organic compost produced seedlings with lower quality than in natura bovine manure but superior to the commercial substrate. Due to the health risks associated with use of untreated bovine manure, organic compost and vermicompost are good alternatives for the production of E. urograndis seedlings.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the growth of young Tabebuia aurea seedlings irrigated with different concentrations of wastewater from fish farming. The experiment was conducted in a seedling nursery, from June to August 2013. The treatments consisted of five concentrations of wastewater from fish farming diluted in freshwater (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of wastewater). Plant height, stem diameter and plant height/stem diameter ratio were evaluated every 15 days to verify the effects of treatments on seedlings growth. At the end of the experiment, individual leaf area, leaf area, leaf dry matter, stem dry matter, root dry matter, total dry matter and Dickson quality index were also evaluated. The reuse of wastewater from fish farming diluted at concentrations of 25 and 50% in freshwater is a viable alternative in the production of Tabebuia aurea seedlings. However, higher concentrations hinder the production of seedlings of this species.

ABSTRACT Brazil is the largest importer of potassium (K) fertilizers in the world, importing about 95% of all the potassium consumed by its agriculture. Thus, new sources and technologies to increase K availability have been studied. This study aimed to evaluate the agronomic viability of the use of calcined glauconite and phonolite blended and granulated with two organic materials on maize growth in pots, using two soils of contrasting texture in a controlled environment. Were evaluated eight sources of potassium: phonolite; phonolite + poultry manure; phonolite + cattle manure; calcined glauconite; calcined glauconite + poultry manure; calcined glauconite + cattle manure; negative control (no K); and positive control (K - KCl), and two soils of contrasting texture. The experiment was carried out for 38 d. The following parameters were analyzed: plant height, stem diameter, shoot dry mass, leaf number, leaf contents of nitrogen (N), K and phosphorus (P), and the SPAD chlorophyll meter. In the sandy soil, the source consisting of phonolite + chicken manure was similar to KCl application regarding plant height, stem diameter and shoot dry mass. As for the clayey soil, when both rocks were blended with the organic wastes, they were similar to KCl for shoot dry mass. The use of pure granulated rocks, calcined glauconite and phonolite without blending with the organic residues is not efficient to provide available K to maize plants.

ABSTRAK Penelitian dengan metode eksperimental yang bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh kombinasi dosis pemupukan kompos organik dan penambahan azolla terhadap pertumbuhan rumput raja (Pennisetum purpureophoides). Penelitian telah dilakukan pada tanggal 1 April sampai 30 September 2020 terletak di lahan pertanian, Desa Beji, Kecamatan Kedungbanteng, Kabupaten Banyumas. Percobaan menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap pola faktorial dengan faktor pertama adalah dosis pupuk kompos organik yakni 10, 20, dan 30 ton ha-1, dan penambahan azolla yakni 10, 20, 30 persen dari faktor pertama sehingga dihasilkan 9 kombinasi perlakuan. Setiap kombinasi perlakuan diulang sebanyak 3 kali sehingga menghasilkan 27 satuan percobaan. Tanaman rumput raja pada pemotongan kedua ditanam pada lahan seluas 400 meter persegi dengan jarak tanam 80 x 40 cm. Pupuk kompos organik yang digunakan berasal dari kotoran sapi potong yang telah selesai proses pengomposan, dan azolla berasal dari lahan persawahan. Parameter penelitian yang diukur adalah tinggi tanaman, dan diameter batang yang diukur pada hari ke 14, 28, dan 42 hari. Data yang telah diperoleh kemudian dianalisis menggunakan analisis variansi (ANOVA) dan dilanjutkan dengan uji orthogonal polinomial. Hasil menunjukan bahwa pemberian dosis kompos berpengaruh sangat nyata (P<0,01) terhadap tinggi tanaman dan diameter batang, sedangkan pemberian pupuk azolla juga berpengaruh sangat nyata (P<0,01) terhadap tinggi tanaman dan diameter batang, akan tetapi interaksi tidak berpengaruh nyata (P>0,05). Pemberian dosis pupuk kompos organik dapat digunakan untuk mencapat pertumbuhan rumput raja yang terbaik sebesar 30 ton ha-1 dan penambahan azolla sebesar 30 persen dari dosis pupuk organik. From April 1 to September 30, 2020, research was conducted on agricultural land, Beji Village, Kedungbanteng District, Banyumas Regency. The experiment used a completely randomized design with a factorial pattern with the first factor being the dose of organic compost, namely 10, 20, and 30 tons ha-1, and the addition of Azolla, namely 10, 20, 30 percent of the first factor, resulting in 9 treatment combinations. Each treatment combination was repeated three times to produce 27 experimental units. The king grass plant in the second cutting was planted on ??400 square meters with a spacing of 80 x 40 cm. The organic compost used is derived from beef cattle dung that has finished the composting process, and Azolla comes from rice fields. Research parameters measured were plant height and stem diameter measured on days 14, 28, and 42 days. The data that had been obtained were then analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and continued with the orthogonal polynomial test. The results showed that the dose of compost had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on plant height and stem diameter, while the application of Azolla fertilizer also had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on plant height and stem diameter, but the interaction had no effect significant (P>0.05). Dosage of organic compost can be used to achieve the best king grass growth of 30 tons ha-1 and the addition of Azolla by 30 percent of the dose of organic fertilizer. ABSTRACT There is an increasing use of poultry litter in seedling production. However, studies regarding the effect of different particle-size litter on plant growth are still scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the growth of Moringa oleifera Lam. fertilized with poultry litter doses (0 g dm-3, 40 g dm-3, 80 g dm-3 and 120 g dm-3) with distinct particle sizes (1 mm and 4 mm), with four replications. The following variables were evaluated: plant height; root and stem diameter; leaf, stem, shoot and root dry matter mass; shoot/root dry matter mass ratio; and the Dickson quality index. There was no influence of the particle size on the studied variables, except for plant height. The root diameter decreased with the increase of the poultry litter doses. The accumulation of dry matter mass from the shoot and root increased with the increase of poultry litter doses up to 120 g dm-3. A linear increase of the Dickson quality index, relatively to days and poultry litter doses, was observed. It is recommended to apply 80 g dm-3 of poultry litter to fertilize M. oleifera plants, independently of the granulometry used.

The productivity of forage depends on the availability of nutrients in the soil where it is grown, so fertilization to replace harvested produce is absolutely necessary. This study aims to study the response of gamal and indigofera forage on application of inorganic and organic fertilizers. Research using a completely randomized design factorial pattern of two factors, the first factor is the type of plant (G = Gamal; I = Indigofera) and the second factor is the type of fertilizer (T = without Fertilizer; A = Inorganic fertilizer NPK; K = commercial organic fertilizer; O = conventional organic fertilizer; B = bioorganic fertilizer), repeated 4 times so that it consists of 40 experimental units. The variables observed were plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf dry weight, stem dry weight, total dry weight of leaves, ratio of dry weight of leaves/stems and leaf area per pot. The results showed that there was no interaction between plant species and types of fertilizer in influencing the response of gamal and indigofera plants. Plant species have a significant effect on stem diameter, while fertilizer types have a significant effect on plant height, leaf dry weight, total dry weight of leaves and leaf area per pot. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the response of gamal plants is similar to indigofera, all types of fertilizers can improve the response of plants and organic fertilizers produce the same crop response with inorganic fertilizers. Entre as espécies florestais nativas indicadas para a recuperação de áreas degradas está o Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong, pouco se sabe sobre os processos germinativos e de produção de mudas desta espécie. Diante disso, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a influência da casca de arroz carbonizada no desenvolvimento de mudas de Enterolobium contortisiliquum. O experimento foi conduzido no Viveiro Florestal da Universidade Federal do Tocantins, campus Universitário de Gurupi – TO, em que foram instalados cinco tratamentos e 20 repetições, com adição de Casca de Arroz Carbonizada (CAC) no substrato comercial Bioflora® (SCB), nas proporções de (T1) 0% CAC + 100% SCB, (T2) 25% CAC + 75% SCB, (T3) 50% CAC + 50% SCB, (T4) 75% CAC + 25% SCB e (T5) 100% CAC. Aos 20, 40 e 60 dias, após a semeadura, foram avaliados os parâmetros altura da parte aérea e diâmetro do coleto. Ao final de 60 dias foram obtidos os parâmetros: peso da massa seca da raiz, peso da massa seca da parte aérea, peso da massa seca total e índice de qualidade de Dickson. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado (DIC), as médias dos tratamentos foram comparadas através do Software Assistat 7.7 pelo teste Scott e Knott ao nível de 5% de probabilidade. The experiment was conducted in the Forest Nursery of the Federal University of Tocantins, University campus of Gurupi - TO, five treatments and 20 replicates were installed, with the addition of Carbonized Rice Peel (CAC) in the commercial substratum Bioflora ® (SCB), in proportions (T1) 0% CAC + 100% SCB, (T2) 25% CAC + 75% SCB, (T3) 50% CAC + 50% SCB, (T4) 75% CAC + 25% SCB and (T5) 100% CAC . At 20, 40 and 60 days after sowing, the parameters of shoot height and shoot diameter were evaluated. At the end of 60 days, the following parameters were obtained: root dry mass weight, shoot dry mass weight, total dry mass weight and Dickson quality index. The used experimental design  was completely randomized (DIC), the means of the treatments were compared using Software Assistat 7.7 by the Scott and Knott test at the 5% probability level. Abstract. In order to reveal the regulating capacity of organic fertilizers on washed soil, pots experiments were carried out. The growth of tomatoes planted on washed soil amended by organic fertilizers were measured. Organic fertilizers can be helpful to improve the plant height, stem diameter, the aerial parts fresh weight, root fresh weight, leaf photosynthetic rates and photosynthesis, and lay a good foundation for the growth of tomatoes. The effect of organic fertilizers is the most significant. Among all the treatments of adding 2.5%, 5%, 10% organic fertilizers, adding 10% organic fertilizers is the best. It can significantly enhance the growth and photosynthesis of tomatoes, and is among the best of these three soil treatments for washed soil.

Variations in light intensity can lead to important anatomical and morphophysiological changes in plants. Aiming to increase knowledge about the Amazonian tree species, this study examines the influence of shade on the cambial activity and development of Parkia gigantocarpa Ducke and Schizolobium parahyba var. amazonicum (Huber ex Ducke) Barneby seedlings. Seedlings of the two species were grown in a nursery under four shade intensities (treatments): full sun, low, moderate, and high shade (resp., 0%, 23%, 67%, and 73% of shade, or 2000, 1540, 660, and 540 µmol·m−2·s−1) obtained with polyethylene screens. We measured plant height, stem diameter, biomass production, stomatal conductance (gs), transpiration (E), photosynthesis (A), and cambial activity (CA) (xylem, cambium, and phloem). Also, we calculated the Dickson Quality Index (DQI). The highest values of biomass production, gs,  E, A, and DQI, were found under full sun, in P. gigantocarpa, and under low shade intensity in S. parahyba. In both species high shade intensity reduced CA. We concluded that the CA and the physiological and morphological attributes work together, explaining the radial growth and increasing seedlings quality, which optimized efficient seedling production under full sun, in P. gigantocarpa, and under low shade intensity in S. parahyba.

Using residues generated in agriculture to produce seedlingsis an economically interesting alternative, besides being a way to reduce the environmental impacts caused by their inadequate disposal. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of using coffee chaff (CC) and organic compost (OC) as substrate components for the production of Formosa papaya seedlings and the potential of grape pomace (GP), a vitiviniculture residue, in the composition of substrates for the production of okra and zucchini seedlings. We carried out two trials in a completely randomized design (CRD): the first had seven treatments and six replicates: T0: 100% commercial substrate Bioplant® (CS); from T1 to T6: increasing proportions of CC and decreasing of CC: 10/90; 20/80; 30/70; 40/60; 50/50 e 60/40%. The second had six treatments and six replicates, with increasing proportions of GP and decreasing proportions of CS: 0/100; 10/90; 20/80; 30/70; 40/60 and 50/50%.In the first trial we evaluated the number of leaves, root length, seedling height, stem diameter, shoot dry mass, root dry mass, total dry mass and Dickson Quality Index (DQI) at 59 days after sowing.The second trialwas performed at 12 and 18 DAS and we analyzed the number of leaves, plant height, root length, collar diameter, shoot dry mass, root dry mass, total dry mass and Dickson Quality Index (DQI). Variables that met the assumptions of normality and homoscedasticity were subjected to Dunnett’s test. The substrate composed of coffee chaff and organic compost has a high potential to be used as an alternative substrate due to promote better quality of papaya seedlings compared to the commercial substrate. Alternative substrate containing 60% coffee chaff and 40% organic compost is recommended for the production of  Formosa papaya seedlings in tubes. The grape pomace (GP) has a high potential to be used as component in substrate for the production of okra and zucchini seedlings compared to the commercial substrate (CS) only. Alternative substrate composed of 50% GP and 50% CS is recommended for the production of zucchini seedlings, while substrate composed of 10% GP and 90% CS is recommended for the production of okra seedlings.

This study aims to 1) To determine the interaction of organic fertilizers and plant spacing on the growth and production of okra plants. 2) To determine the best dose of organic fertilizer on the growth and production of okra plants. 3) To determine the appropriate planting spacing for the growth and production of okra plants. This research was conducted using factorial randomized block design (RBD) with 2 factors, the first factor was plant spacing (A) consisting of 3 levels, namely: 60x40 cm (A1), 60x50 cm (A2), 60x60 cm (A3) . The second factor was the dose of organic fertilizer (J) which consists of 3 levels, namely 5 tons / ha-1 (J1), 10 tons ha-1 (J2), 15 kg ha-1 (J3). The variables observed included plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, total pods, total pod weight and pod quality. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) level of 5% and further testing with Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that: There was no significant interaction between organic fertilizer dosage and plant spacing on the growth and production of okra plants. Dosage treatment of organic fertilizer Bio slurry 15 Ton ha-1 (A3) significantly affected plant height, stem diameter, the highest plant height of 55.6411, 72.5322 and 77.0889 at the age of 6.7 and 8 MST. The highest stem diameter is 0.8689, 1.7844, 2.1289, 2, 0789 at the age of 3,6,7 and 8 MST. the best number of leaves is 27,706 age 8 MST. The treatment of plant spacing of 60x40 cm (A1) had a significant effect on the total number of pods and total pod weight, the total number of pods was 23.8569 and the total pod weight was 275.85 g in all harvests
