In 1998, the relative responses of Neomegalotomus parvus (Westwood) (Hemiptera: Alydidae) to colors in traps were assessed in the field. Colors were printed in white alkaline paper and covered with transparent plastic. Printed colors were black, green, yellow, red and blue. Treatments also included white paper and aluminum foil. Green traps captured more bugs than the other traps (except yellow). Yellow traps caught significantly more N. parvus males than blue, black and aluminum traps. White, red and blue traps captured significantly more N. parvus males than black traps. In 1999, the same treatments were used and additionally included the factor presence (X absence) of males in cages in the traps. Four males were confined in the cages together with pigeon pea seeds and water. Control traps received only pigeon pea seeds and water. No responses were found for color comparisons. Male-lured traps captured significantly more males than control traps.

This study was aimed to develop an environmental-friendly fingerprint visualization using turmeric herb. The turmeric powder size was in the range of 60-200 mesh. The dusting method was done by applying turmeric powder to glass surface, aluminum foil, transparent plastic, plastic cups and compact disk (CD) surfaces that have sebum content from fingerprint samples. This study was also compared with the small particle reagent (SPR) of ninhydrin. The SPR method was done by spraying ninhydrin solution on A4 white paper and doorslag paper. The results of this study indicated that form of fingerprint obtained has the following pattern: radial loop (16.6 %), ulnar loop (63.3 %), tented arch (1.6 %), twinted loop (1.6 %) and plain whorl (16.6 %). The results showed that the turmeric powder dusting method gave a low contrast with yellow colour while ninhydrin SPR provides high contrast with Ruhemann’s purple.

The behavior of liquid in containers subjected to impact loads due to free fall was investigated using a visualization technique. Two types of containers were used. One consisted of a case made of transparent plastic plates and a liquid-packing bag made of transparent plastic films. The bag contained about 1,000 ml of liquid. The other was a case made only of transparent plastic plates. The case contained about 1,000 ml of water. The liquid consisted of water and ethanol. Polyethylene particles of about 3 mm in diameter were included in the liquid to visualize the movement of liquid in the containers. The containers were subjected to impact due to free fall, and photographs of the containers were taken using a high-speed camera. Results indicated that the behavior of liquid in the container with a liquid-packing bag is different from that of the container without a liquid-packing bag.

The data for a total of seventeen digestion trials with sheep receiving grasses, legumes, two mixtures of these, and low protein synthetic mixtures as sole rations are reported. The biological values for the proteins of the cow pea increase as the plant passes from the just before blooming stage through the full bloom to the full pod stages of maturities. The biological values for proteins are also higher for the grasses than for the legumes when fed singly. The grasses studied during the last three years can be arranged in the following order of decreasing net-protein values: Guinea, Merker, Para, Elephant, Guatemala and Yaraguá. The nutritive ratio for the Yaraguá grass is very wide due to the low digestible protein, as is shown in the data. Alfalfa hay yields more total digestible nutrients, more crude fiber and more ether soluble extract than any of the other legumes studied. The percentage intake of protein stored is greater with a mixture of Merker grass and pigeon pea than when the grass is fed alone. The vitamin A activities of some grasses and legumes are reported.

Abstract: Nitric oxide (NO) can act in biochemical pathways of the germination process; however, there is little information about how it acts on the performance of pea seeds. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological and biochemical effects of NO on pea seed germination and vigor. Pea seeds cv. Itapuã 600 obtained from three seed lots with different levels of physiological quality were sown in a substrate moistened with water (control) or sodium nitroprusside (SNP) solution, a NO donor (50 μM), to assess germination, vigor, activity of antioxidant enzymes, reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation, and amylase activity. NO application does not alter pea seed germination, but it increases vigor. It is more effective in seeds with lower physiological potential. In addition, NO leads to reduction in oxidative stress, favors the translocation of reserves to the embryo, and has potential for use in the treatment of pea seeds to increase seed vigor.

Dermatoglyphic characters vary widely and are unaffected by age, gender and least by environment. Unlike configurations and their distinctiveness with every individual, it also shows bilateral, bisexual and population variations. Palm prints once created are unchangeable throughout life and are unaffected by environmental factors. This paper is based upon the palmar dermatoglyphic. The study reports on bisexual and bilateral palm prints among Lodhis and Thakurs of Rudahi village of Bakshi Ka Talab, Lucknow District. The palmar dermatoglyphic traits have been analyzed among the two populations which are Main line Formula, Endings of main lines D and A, Position of Axial triradius, Angle atd, Main line Index, Hypothenar, Thenar/ Ist Interdigital area, IInd Interdigital area, IIIrd Interdigital area, IVth Interdigital area, and Palmar Ridge Counts. The prints have been obtained by using the duplicating ink method on white paper. On the perusal of Principal Main line Formula among Lodhis and Thakurs, it has been noticed that the frequency is more in Lodhi males than females in formula 11.9.7. On the other hand, the frequency of Thakur males is more than Thakur females in formula 9.7.5. The Ending of Main Line D in position 11 as clearly indicated in Lodhis is higher in both the genders in comparison to Thakurs, while the position 9 indicates highest frequency in Thakur females. The Ending of main line A at position 5’ has higher frequency in Lodhi males. The Main line index value 16 is observed higher in Lodhis in comparison to Thakurs. Higher frequency has been observed in Lodhis than Thakurs in Axial triradius in modal type‘t’. The range of Angle atd is observed to have higher frequency in 36º- 40º among the Lodhis as compared to Thakurs. The palmar ridge counts mean, is found higher in Lodhi females and Thakur males. Thus this paper shows the similarity and dissimilarity among the males and females of Thakurs and Lodhis in Palmar dermatoglyphics.

AbstractHydrophobic property of PDMS surface was improved by the 400 W UV-Vis lamp light irradiation in the atmospheric condition for several ten minutes. As a result of this surface treatment, the surface became to hydrophilic character for one month long. This surface treatment technique applied to PDMS micro-fluidic device and verified valve-less switching. The UV-Vis light irradiated to PDMS micro fluidic pattern with partly covered by aluminum foil. Finally inlet and outlets were connected 0.5 mm diameter tubes. The syringe pumps injected the distilled water into the inlet of the PDMS micro channel at the flow rates of 0.5, 5.0, and 50 μl/min for the both width channel. As results of water injection water flowed only the UV-Vis treated channel at the flow rates of 0.5 and 5.0 μl/min. On the other hand, the water flowed for all channels at the flow rate of 50 μl/min. This result was observed from 5.0 μl/min flow again for both width devices which dried by air. These results were occurred by the difference of the flow conductance and wettability. The mechanism of this hyrophilicity of PDMS was reported to form Si-O in the surface by means of glassy surface. From the IR spectra, the Si-O-Si peak shifted to higher wave number for UV-Vis irradiated PDMS than the untreated PDMS comparing with the other IR peaks. This result showed that the Si-O-Si network bonding of PDMS changed to the O-Si-O bonding around the surface.
