Abstract.Metaphors are a useful resource not only to influence family relationships but to achieve positive changes in parenting behavior. Family intervention is essential in all forms of intervention, to the point that if there are no changes in family systems, it will be very difficult for a counselor or an educational psychologist to have positive effect on children and adolescents. The family often contributes not only in maintaining the problems alive, but also in generating them. Adults immersed in a negatively balanced family system generally also show defensive behaviors induced by emotional distress or unconscious personal insecurity. The use of the metaphor involves the transmission of symbols or anchors, which can serve as an effective tool to control this type of behavior, and is crucial to successful intervention. In this paper, practical examples of different metaphors for parents and their objective in therapy will be presented. Keywords: family intervention, psychology intervention , family relationships, metaphorResumen.

ABSTRACT Drugs abuse is a complex phenomenon with many causes, and it affects children and adolescents. The objective of this research was to seek scientific evidence that contributes to the understanding of the existing relation between the use of crack and other drugs by children and adolescents and the family. The method used was the integrative review. The bases analyzed were: MEDLINE, LILACS, Cochrane, BDENF and IBECS. Descriptors: cocaine, crack, family and family relationships. Three categories were evidenced: Family environment as a protector and/or facilitator for the use of crack and other drugs by children and adolescents; Lack of knowledge and the repercussions of the use of crack and other drugs by children and adolescents in the family environment; Networks to support the family and coping with the use of crack and other drugs. The family environment has a protective function against the use of drugs, but the issue of drugs has to be faced and addressed. It is also necessary to strengthen the social networks and discuss prevention themes.

This paper applies the family lifecourse perspective to the lives of rural older women in the Midwestern United States based on the findings of the Rural Older Women’s Project, an ethnographic study of the daily lives and systems of support of 30 women. The focus is on the relationships with children, grandchildren, and parents if they are still living, of rural older women in central Minnesota. Three case studies are used to demonstrate the full range of circumstances. From those who are still actively providing support and assistance to their own parents, children, and grandchildren, to those who are primarily the recipients of care and support, to those who are unable to receive the necessary assistance from their family system. These variations are significant in terms of the ways in which each of them face the increasing needs which often come with ageing.

This article addresses conceptual challenges and theoretical approaches for examining the role of the family in responding and adapting to genetic testing for inherited conditions. Using a family systems perspective, family-based constructs that are relevant to genetic testing may be organized into three domains: family communication, organization and structure of family relationships, and health-related cognitions and beliefs shared within families. Empirical findings are presented from key content areas in family-based genetics research, including family communication, how genetic testing affects family relationships, psychological responses to genetic testing in the family context, and family-based influences on health decisions. Future research should explore decision making about genetic testing or behavior change specifically within the context of the family system and should identify family-based determinants of genetic testing outcomes.

Within the causes of family relationships both males and females maintain specific tasks and positions based on the gender perspectives since the historic epoch in Sri Lanka. According to sociologists, the tasks are merely divided on gender based decisions. We sought, in this investigation, to understand the family dynamics in the view of parents and children involved in Domestic Violence against children and adolescents institutionalized in the Center of Assistance to the Victimized Child and Adolescent (CACAV), in Ribeirão Preto-SP, Brazil. This is a qualitative study with semi-structured interviews applied to parents and children from six families involved in domestic violence. The data were analyzed through content analysis. Ecology of human development was used as theoretical reference. Domestic violence was reported, though it is understood as common practice for the families. We identified that the parents' view favors the denial of the violence perpetrated. The children, on the other hand, point that love ties and affection are more significant for their development than blood relations. We believe that the knowledge acquired as how violence is experienced, can contribute with intervention strategies capable of breaking the perverse cycle of violent family relationships.
