Printed educational materials such as teacher’s handbook may affect the quality of education as much as teachers, curriculum, educational environment, and the other course materials. Perspectives of eighty-two pre-service elementary teachers regarding the activities and songs included in the teacher’s handbook for music course were examined by content analysis for shedding light on the nature of the handbook and for producing knowledge about how an effective teacher’s handbook for music course may be like. Even though the question was deliberately worded to let respondents express their both positive and negative views, the number of respondents who expressed positive views and the frequency of such expressions were considerably lower compared to the negative ones. Inappropriateness for age group and learning outcomes, insufficiency for facilitating learning, requiring hard-to-attain materials, and difficulty of application raised as major concerns for both activates and songs. Additionally, activities were argued to be repetitive and lacking entertainment while songs were criticized for their rhythm, melody, lyrics, quality, and practicability in the classroom.

Nowadays distance education helps when no other traditional possibility is allowed. But is it a good alternative to replace entirely the traditional education? Could it provide at least the same level of quality or it brings problems that we are not prepared for? The paper presents an observation of a problem with keeping students focused on their education – constant dropping of engagement and unintentional loss of attention during situation of distance learning. Appling measures to keep students’ attraction led to the need of some aspects’ automation – a model for a new intelligent assistant, software agent, was developed, along with the current ones in the existing system. This assistant will create profiles of students, helping with personalized tracking of each student’s progress in specific subject, recommending topics to improve knowledge and fill knowledge gaps. It will “live” in the extension of an existing system and cooperate with other agents to accomplish its goals, proactively assisting in students’ learning aspects, as well as teachers’ efforts to prepare better and more suitable educational materials.

The article indicates the importance of the principles of pedagogical design and pedagogical design in ensuring the effectiveness of e-learning. The author considers the features and advantages of blended learning for both students and university teachers in general, shows the possibilities of using the electronic environment within the framework of full-time and distance learning. The practical aspect of these problems is considered, which is associated with the fact that few teachers are ready to master the latest technologies, design the content and organizational aspects of the digital educational space, adapt the educational process to the requirements of an innovative society, since there are no ideas about the digital educational space as a whole.

The article reveals the implementation of innovative e-learning technologies in the process of mastering the discipline “Foreign language in the professional direction” by students of agricultural universities. Actual approaches to teaching humanities require the use of information-communication technologies (ICT) for educational purposes, that allows increasing the volume of educational materials and modernizing it with the help of multimedia presentation tools. The application of information-communication technologies contributes to the students’ mastering of foreign languages knowledge as a tool of communication in a global society and the development of their information competencies. Particular attention is paid to the characteristics of the content, structure and objectives of the electronic training course on learning English, German, Ukrainian and Russian as foreign languages for students of the distance learning form of Sumy National Agrarian University. The presented distance learning course is an innovative development exemplar, that provides learners’ study of educational textual, audio and video materials in the mode of independent work with a computer and facilitates regulating the order of interaction of students with a computer. Such interaction contributes to the improvement of the efficiency of the educational process through the introduction of new methods and means of teaching educational materials; stimulates students’ interest in the study of foreign languages through the use of innovative information-communication technologies; responsiveness of the feedback and the possibility of direct consultation with the teacher in the educational environment of the Moodle platform. The analysis of the experimental study results showed predominantly sufficient and high levels of humanitarian knowledge in experimental groups that were trained on the basis of the electronic course in the educational environment of Moodle platform; in contrast to the low and initial levels in the control groups.

This chapter is dedicated to Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) employing dynamic groups, where at different stages students work independently, interact with each other in pairs, and conduct joint work in larger groups with varying numbers of participants. A novel Dynamic Group Environment for Collaborative Learning (DGE/CL) that supports students in making informed and intelligent choices about how, when, and with whom to collaborate is introduced. A face-to-face collaborative scenario, where all students are in the same room and can move freely around and interact with each other while using digitally enhanced printed materials with direct point-and-click functionality is considered. Flexible and efficient support for dynamic group management is ensured through the adopted Cluster Pattern Interface (CLUSPI) technology, which, while preserving the original touch-and-feel of printed educational materials, supports additional affordances and allows employment of new, non-traditional paper-based interactions. Possibilities for DGE/CL enhancements with specialized surface code readers and laser-based digital surface encoding being developed by the authors are outlined and references to recent projects are given.

The present study aimed at systematizing information on the incidence of Graphic Language Symbolization Modes (GL) in the contents of Printed Educational Materials-PEMs for Health Promotion in Brazil, as well as the identification of weaknesses. As a source of research, it was used the Virtual Health Library of the Ministry of Health (BVS-MS), which provides virtually the largest collection of health PEMs in Brazil. Was used descriptors related to the theme in question in the areas of: Prevention of STI/AIDS; Aedes aegypti prevention; Chronic Degenerative Diseases (Hypertension and Diabetes) and Breast Feeding/Complementary Eating. After that, the quantitative information was categorized and the compositional elements of the PEMs were analyzed in the light of Information Design. The results allowed an understanding, through analysis, of the representation of informational contents that will serve as a guiding basis for the adaptation of future strategies for more efficient graphic composition in health, with the contribution of Information Design.
