EMIGRATION PUBLICATIONS OF THE CREATIVE HERITAGE OF VASYL PACHOVSKYI

The article deals with the role of the Association of Ukrainian Writers in Exile “Word” in publication of the most complete collection of works by Vasyl Pachovsky in two volumes. Vasyl Pachovsky was a prominent member of Young Muse – an informal modernist group of writers and artists in Western Ukraine founded in 1906. In Ukrainian literature, he is mostly known as a lyric poet, but Vasyl Pachovsky is also the author of dramatic works. His modernistic dramas are lyrical allegories. At the same time they are highly patriotic works describing Ukraine’s long quest for freedom. Pachovsky’s most prominent dramas are: “Dream of Ukrainian Night”, “Sun of the Ruin”, “The Sphinx of Europe”, “Prince Roman the Great”, and “Het’man Mazepa”. Some of the works by Vasyl Pachovskyi were published in various journals or as separate books, but many of his works of art and historical articles remained in manuscripts. They are saved in the archives of the author’s family in the USA. In the context of solving this issue the publishing activity of the Association of Ukrainian Writers in Exile “Word” has been examined. The organization continued the traditions initiated by the Ukrainian Artistic Movement (Mystets’kyi Ukrayins’kyi Rukh). Its most famous members were Hryhorii Kostiuk, Yurii Sherekh, Vasyl Barka, Yurii Lavrinenko, Ostap Tarnavskyi and others. Their purpose was to create a literary center that would unite Ukrainian writers of diaspora. The organization also had to promote the development of independent Ukrainian writing, Theory of Literature and Literary Criticism, to create a publishing house in which the authors would be able to print their works. In general, a great number of different books (works of art, documentary, literary studies) have been published under the stamp of this Association. The collected works by Vasyl Pachovsky in two volumes have been published in 1984–1985, when Ostap Tarnavskyi was the chairman of the union. A lot of efforts have been made by sons and daughter of the writer. The structure and peculiarities of the publication are observed, the prefaces by the members of the Association Ostap Tarnavskyi and Vasyl Barka to each volume are considered. The texts of these authors are very important for the research into creative legacy of Vasyl Pachovskyi.

The article analyzes the main directions, course, and consequences of the research and publishing project of 1940-1941 in preparing for printing a 25-volume collection of works of Ivan Franko's literary-artistic heritage in the context of new political and socio-economic realities in Western Ukraine after the accession to the USSR as a part of the Ukrainian SSR at the beginning of World War II. Emphasizing the participation in these events of employees of the Lviv department of the T. Shevchenko Institute of Ukrainian Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union, the author noted that the main work was carried out by the Lviv philologists, led by Academician Mykhailo Vozniak. They did the search, selection, and scientific verification of the texts, ensuring their linguistic and stylistic design, compiling the edition's reference apparatus, and others. The place and role of some compilers and editors in preparing the collection for publication, particularly M. Vozniak and Professor V. Simovych, are highlighted. The reasons which caused difficulties and insurmountable obstacles in meeting the deadline in a responsible task are revealed. It turned out that the task became much more difficult for the management of the Institute and the employees, and, first of all, for the main compilers and editors from Lviv than it seemed at first. They did not completely achieve what was planned. Before the beginning of the German-Soviet War, the State Publishing House of Ukraine managed to publish only two volumes of I. Franko's writings, although a team of Lviv scientists led by M. Vozniak had prepared for publishing a scientifically done 20-volume set of the writer's works. The German-Soviet War interrupted further printing. The post-war period's new socio-political conditions left very little space for creative activities, so M. Vozniak's attempts to complete the publication of all 25 volumes were unsuccessful in the end. Keywords: Ivan Franko, works, twenty-five-volume edition, compilers, editors, M. Vozniak.

The scientific research shows that literary terms in the Germanic languages were not studied uniformly. Literary terms, which were the subject of our research, have hardly been studied in the Slavic, Roman and Germanic languages. Objectives and methods: Therefore, it is relevant to study the terms of philosophy, culture and spirituality, ethics, aesthetics, religion, linguistics and especially literary criticism. The degree of study and significance of literary terms are carried out in the given article. The article also gives information about the dictionary of Chris Baldick –The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms and the significant aspects of literary terms. Terms belonged to the theory of literature, its history, process and dramatic works are discussed. Epic, lyric and dramatic terms of literary genres were analyzed by thematic groups and the author's opinion on the interpretation of terms is expressed and explained in the article. Results: The Concise Oxford Dictionary of literary terms by Chris Baldick contains 1060 literary terms. These terms were divided into semantic groups according to literary types. Literary terms were grouped into epic, lyrical, and dramatic literary types. Literary terms in the dictionary were originally classified and studied in three main groups of literary type: prose, poetry, and drama. Conclusions: In the course of the research, it was noticed that there are some terms which can be included into both lyric and epic, or epic and dramatic, or to all three literary types. In addition, despite the existence of literary terms in the dictionary, there were also terms that did not belong to any literary type or genre and expressed general concepts in the literature that were also studied in a separate group. In the dictionary, we have analyzed the semantic groups included 142 epic, 329 lyrical, 110 dramatic, 330 terms belong to all three literary types and 149 terms that are not included in any literary type, which were further studied in small groups during our study.

The loan and hire of contemporary original works of art has a long but littleresearched history. Its recent development, in and outside public libraries (particularly in the USA, Canada, Europe, and Israel) began essentially after 1945. Its nature and scope is strongly influenced by contemporary art. Art loans are worth promoting because art plays a lesser role in our cultural life compared to music and literature, because of the gulf between contemporary art and the public at large, as a means of securing and developing the role of the artist in society, and to foster discrimination and visual literacy in an age dominated by images of all kinds.

The article talks about the role of D. Chyzhevsky in redefining the paradigm of Ukrainian romanticism, since Soviet canons are still being explored in his theory and history. In particular, emphasis was placed on confronting such ideological basis as: avoiding any mysticism; refusal of psycho-intimate immersion; the imposition of revolutionary and democratic tendencies; pan-realism; the militant nature of romanticism and the genesis of its origins from German idealism. Chizhevsky proposed instead: the recognition of the heart as the center of romantic aesthetics; peculiarity and singularity of Ukrainian romantic philosophy; syncretic ideology instead of “militancy”; giving preference to the psychological and intuitive space in romanticism; nationally creative potency and oneiric and mystical poetry. Among the main features of “Ukrainian romanticism” is: 1) the identification of interest in the figure and philosophy of G. Skovoroda, that is, the historical continuity of ideas, and, therefore, the inconvenience of the emergence of romanticism; 2) the birth of Ukrainian romantic literature is connected with the development of a certain ideology that belongs to the masses and spiritualized them; 3) nationality is a cross-cutting feature of romantic literature; 4) the cult of antiquity; 5) the desire to get closer to the ideal of “complete” literature, create the relations with other literatures, etc. D. Chyzhevsky distinguished three schools of Ukrainian romanticism: Kiev, Kharkiv and Western Ukraine. Considered the representatives of the Ukrainian school of romanticism in Russia and Poland. He gave the motivation of A. Metlynsky’s work, outside the categories of reactionary and revolutionary romanticism (as well as other personalities). He emphasized the role of “History of Rus” and “Zaporozhian old days” to form a romantic historical vision, that is, the principle of historicism; and considered the most expressive of the many receptions of romanticism. Constantly stressed the tendency of romantics to God. The books of D. Chyzhevsky went to the Ukrainian reader long and hard, however, time sets its emphasis, neglecting all authority, because only the future knows what it will need for a new world.

Introduction. In world literature, a number of scientific investigations are being conducted on the classification of irony, its artistic manifestations, parody, paradox, grotesque and image. The role of irony and image in the structure of the work of art in the world literary science, in which the coverage and identification of the individual skills of the writer remains one of the urgent tasks. In modern Uzbek literature, there is an approach based on various research methods of world literature in the analysis of works of art, the coverage of the poetic skills of the author. Research methods. At the same time, as poetry and prose of the 1970s and 1980s emerged from ideological stereotypes, literary criticism seemed to lag behind.

The author of the publication reviews the photobook “Palimpsests”, published in 2018 in the publishing house “Ad Marginem Press” with the support of the Heinrich Böll Foundation. The book presents photos of post-Soviet cities taken by M. Sher. Preface, the author of which is the coordinator of the “Democracy” program of the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Russia N. Fatykhova, as well as articles by M. Trudolyubov and K. Bush, which accompany these photos, contain explanation of the peculiarities of urban space formation and patterns of its habitation in the Soviet Union times and in the post-Soviet period. The author of the publication highly appreciates the publication under review. Analyzing the photographic works of M. Sher and their interpretation undertaken in the articles, the author of the publication agrees with the main conclusions of N. Fatykhova, M. Trudolyubov and K. Bush with regards to the importance of the role of the state in the processes of urban development and urbanization in the Soviet and post-Soviet space, but points out that the second factor that has a key influence on these processes is ownership relations. The paper positively assesses the approach proposed by the authors of the photobook to the study of the post-Soviet city as an architectural and landscape palimpsest consisting mainly of two layers, “socialist” and “capitalist”. The author of the publication specifically emphasizes the importance of analyzing the archetypal component of this palimpsest, pointing out that the articles published in the reviewed book do not pay sufficient attention to this issue. Particular importance is attributed by the author to the issue of metageography of post-Soviet cities and meta-geographical approach to their exploration. Emphasizing that the urban palimpsest is a system of realities, each in turn including a multitude of ideas, meanings, symbols, and interpretations, the author points out that the photobook “Palimpsests” is actually an invitation to a scientific game with space, which should start a new direction in the study of post-Soviet urban space.

  Enzootic bovine leucosis (EBL) has been known for more than a century and a half. Its occurrence and registration may have historically been associated with intensive breeding of dairy cattle in Western Europe to increase target productivity. It is known that any limiting intervention in the nature of the animal organism is always accompanied by an uncontrolled and unpredictable change in the genotype of a wider range than the required, particularly negative order. In particular, a decrease in the resistance to macroorganisms and the possibility of the new diseases emergence, including infectious ones (for example, immunodeficiencies such as BLAD syndrome of black-motley cattle and stress syndrome in pigs, the occurrence of scrapie and other slow sheep infections). In the last two decades of the last century, in many disadvantaged countries, primarily Western European, national programs for the eradication of EBL have been developed and subsequently successfully implemented. First of all the motivation was the economy of dairy cattle breeding (mainly the extension of productive age, as well as the tightening of requirements in international trade in cattle and bull products, breeding, pricing, etc.). In an analytical article are reviewed the elements of epizootology of EBL in the foreign countries with special attention to the situation in the USA, scenarios of various control programs, and promising methods for assessing the role of infected animals in the epizootic process. A critical assessment of the problem of EBL in the Russian Federation is given, the reasons for the ineffectiveness of against leucosis measures are discussed.

The main purpose of this article is to study the role of the Russian Museum in the formation of the historical consciousness of Russian society. In this context, the author examines the history of the creation of the Russian Museum of Emperor Alexander III and its pre-revolutionary collections that became the basis of this famous museum collection (in particular, the composition of the museum’s expositions for 1898 and 1915). Within the framework of the methodology proposed by the author, the works of art presented in the museum’s halls were selected and distributed according to the historical eras that they reflect, and a comparative analysis of changes in the composition of the expositions was also carried out. This approach made it possible to identify the most frequently encountered historical heroes, to consider the representation of their images in the museum’s expositions, and also to provide a systemic reconstruction of historical representations broadcast in its halls.
