The stress often experienced by students is academic stress. Academic stress is a situation where students cannot face academic demands and the exception of the academic demands received as a disorder. If not handled properly, it will disrupt the effectiveness of learning and absorption of information on students. This study aims to reveal the effect of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in reducing student academic stress. The research method is an experimental study conducted with a repeated measure pretest and multiple posttest design. The subjects in this study were 15 students. The instrument used was an adaptation of the Academic Stress Inventory of students at universities and colleges of technology from Lin and Chen. Analyze the data using the one-way ANOVA for repeated measures. The results showed that EMDR is proven to be one of the effective tools to reduce academic stress on students.

This study aims to evaluate the change in gait spatiotemporal parameters in subjects with Parkinson’s disease (PD) before and after Automated Mechanical Peripheral Stimulation (AMPS) treatment. Thirty-five subjects with PD and 35 healthy age-matched subjects took part in this study. A dedicated medical device (Gondola) was used to administer the AMPS. All patients with PD were treated in off levodopa phase and their gait performances were evaluated by an inertial measurement system before and after the intervention. The one-way ANOVA for repeated measures was performed to assess the differences between pre- and post-AMPS and the one-way ANOVA to assess the differences between PD patients and the control group. Spearman’s correlations assessed the associations between patients with PD clinical status (H&Y) and the percentage of improvement of the gait variables after AMPS (α<0.05for all tests). The PD group had an improvement of 14.85% in the stride length; 14.77% in the gait velocity; and 29.91% in the gait propulsion. The correlation results showed that the higher the H&Y classification, the higher the stride length percentage of improvement. The treatment based on AMPS intervention seems to induce a better performance in the gait pattern of PD patients, mainly in intermediate and advanced stages of the condition.

The practice of strength training (ST) promotes several benefits such as increased strength, endurance, muscle strength, hypertrophy, as well as changes in body composition. Concentric failure (CF)Several studies show that exercise until CF may be more efficient in promoting positive adaptations about hypertrophy and muscle strength, however, it is still unclear at which time of the exercise CF is achieved. The number of repetitions (NR) performed in each set may be influenced by fatigue caused by CF training. The objective was to analyze the response of the NR between sets as indicative of CF within a session of ST. The study included fourteen trained men (25.0 ± 3.5 years old) (5 ± 4 years) who performed three sets with 75% of 1(repetition maximum) (RM) until CF with fixed rest interval between sets. Statistical analysis: Data normality was tested according to the Shapiro-Wilk test. Subsequently the one-way ANOVA of repeated measures was used to compare the variance of the means between the moments and, when necessary, the post hoc test was used for multiple comparisons using Bonferroni correction. Percentage variations of decreasing NR between sets were found, being from the 1st vs. 2nd set (45,3 ± 14,6 %;), 2nd vs. 3rd set (41,4 ± 19,5%), and 1st vs. 3rd set (67,8 ± 15,1%). The NR can be used to identify if the exercise is being performed up to the CF, considering that the NR between sets decreases substantially due to acute metabolic changes.

PurposeThis paper compares the work values of the People's Republic of China's (PRC) millennials with their parents.Design/methodology/approachThe Chinese version of the multidimensional work ethic profile (1. productive use of time; 2. centrality of work; 3. hard work; 4. delay of gratification; 5. leisure; 6. self-reliance; and 7. moral reasoning) was used to survey PRC millennials and their parents. A repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for comparing work values for a subsample of 68 same-gender parent/child dyads. A one-way ANOVA was used for comparing the work values of the total sample of 217 PRC millennials and their parents.FindingsThe repeated measures ANOVA found that one of the seven work values for the male dyads and three of the seven work values for the female dyads were significantly different. The one-way ANOVA found that four of the seven work values for males grouping and five of the seven work values for the females grouping were significantly different.Research limitations/implicationsSocial norms and socialization by parents may moderate the influences of changing social conditions on personal values formation predicted by the theory of generations. Researchers need to sample across demographic and socioeconomic subgroups to understand subgroup differences when conducting cross-generational research. Taking large samples, aggregating data and drawing conclusions about cross-generational values may not be a valid approach in trying to understand the complexity of cross-generational values differences.Practical implicationsManagers should be wary of broad declarations about cross-generational values differences. The differences in generational values are nuanced.Originality/valueThis paper shows when controlling for same-gender parents, cross-generational values are very similar. This contrasts other findings on cross-generational values.

Abstract Background Butterflies are considered as bio-indicators of a healthy and diversified ecosystem. Endosulfan was sprayed indiscriminately in large plantations of Kasaragod district, Kerala which had caused serious threats to the ecosystem. In this study, we surveyed the butterflies for their abundance and diversity in three differentially endosulfan-affected areas viz., Enmakaje—highly affected area, Periye—moderately affected area, Padanakkad—unaffected area, carried out between the end of the monsoon season and the start of the winter season, lasting approximately 100 days. Seven variables viz., butterfly abundance (N), species richness (S), Simpson’s reciprocal index (D), the Shannon–Wiener index (H′), the exponential of the Shannon–Wiener index (expH′), Pielou’s evenness (J) and species evenness (D/S), related to species diversity were estimated, followed by the one-way ANOVA (F = 25.01, p < 0.001) and the Kruskal-Wallis test (H = 22.59, p < 0.001). Results A population of three different butterfly assemblages comprised of 2300 butterflies which represented 61 species were encountered. Our results showed that Enmakaje displayed significantly lower butterfly diversity and abundance, compared to the other two communities. Conclusion So far, this is the first study concerning the effect of endosulfan on the biodiversity of butterfly in the affected areas of Kasaragod, Kerala, India. This study may present an indirect assessment of the persisting effects of endosulfan in the affected areas, suggesting its long-term effects on the ecosystem.
