Legalizing abortion had an important goal to get him out of the underground. But at the same time, the results of legalization opened up a new area for scientific research. The phenomenon, which until then was hidden about which, despite its colossal distribution, otherwise than with numerous omissions, is a sudden indentation to scientific analysis. This explains the numerous works of Russian authors devoted to the study of all aspects of legal abortion.

The evaluative research is an important goal of applied research in psychology, and can constitute a link between scientific research and the definition of an evidence-based profession, in many fields of psychology: e.g., educational, social, work, clinical psychology. But to make a good evaluative research some methodological considerations are needed. First of all, the complexity of this field of study overwhelms the traditional methods based on laboratory research, which defines and manages variables, sampling, and statistical analyses in a reductive way.

The purpose of the scientific research is to determine the preconditions for design of shawls and neckcloth using author's works of Shapoval A. G. Modern methods of historiographical, system-structural and morphological analysis were used to analyze the preconditions for using author's works in the design of shawls. The result is analytical research of creative works of Shapoval A.G. with the aim to distinguish artistically expressive elements of the author's design for the design of aesthetically perfect shawl products. The artistic features and techniques in the work of the author with the subsequent application in design are revealed, attention is focused on the naturalness and harmony of composition and color solutions of works with the purpose of their actualization and rethinking in modern products. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the aesthetic-artistic approach to the design of new models of shawls. Varieties of author's works of illustrator Shapoval A.G. are systematized in different groups. The practical significance of the results is to expand the range of contemporary artistic and compositional developments in the field of designing shawls, as well as the ability to teach future artists-designers the peculiarities of using author's artwork in design

The article aims at drawing attention to peculiarities of designing the study content of the mother-tongue course formed at the edge of the 19-20th centuries which are still fruitfully developing nowadays. Based on modern methods of scientific research, experimental work and experience in designing the study content of the Russian (native) language course the authors conclude that relevant aspects of the school course syllabus come down to progressive movement towards competence approach in the presentation of the course’s content; actualization of its supra-subject (meta-subject) function; implementation of its axiological aspect; orientation of the school course on the development of the child's personality, one’s cognitive and creative abilities, as well as spiritual and social experience. The research resulted in methodical system aimed at meeting axiological, thematic and meta-subject challenges during the students’ broad-ranging activities.

This introductory chapter begins with a description of a crime solved in the summer of 1879 to shed some light on the importance of theory in social science. The victim of the crime, and also the person who solved it, was philosopher and scientist Charles S. Peirce. In a letter to his friend, he described what had happened as an instance of the “theory why it is so that people so often guess right.” Guessing, in Peirce's view, plays a crucial role in scientific research. It is precisely through guessing that the most important part of the scientific analysis is produced—namely, the explanation. The term that Peirce most often used in his work for the guess of a hypothesis is abduction. Human beings, as he saw it, are endowed by nature with a capacity to come up with explanations. They have a “faculty of guessing,” without which science would not be possible in the first place.

The main issues related to the assessment of the functional state of the body and the physical performance of the serviceman are considered. The review of modern methods for assessing the functional state and physical working capacity of a person in sports medicine and the physiology of military labor both in Russia and abroad is presented. The choice of the methods allowing to unify approaches to an estimation of military-professional working capacity in stationary and field conditions is proved. It is established that in the scientific research practice of military medical specialists, it is expedient to evaluate the functional state of the serviceman’s organism and its physical working capacity under loads associated with both dynamic and static muscle work. It is determined that ergospirometry is the most acceptable method of assessing the functional state of the body and the physical performance of servicemen in the process of performing dynamic work. It is noted that with the help of ergospirometric testing, it is possible to predict the physical performance of a serviceman and the duration of its preservation at a given level, replacing or supplementing most standard load tests, which is a weighty argument in favor of its choice as a «gold standard». It has been established that to evaluate the functional state of the body and the physical performance of servicemen in the process of performing static work, the main method is stabilometry. A significant number of available stabilometric techniques, including those using biofeedback, significantly expands the possibilities of diagnosing the functional state of the body of a military specialist. It is determined that the most acceptable method for assessing the impact of dynamic loads on the locomotor system of a serviceman is the use of the “motion capture” technology. The main advantages and disadvantages of modern means and methods of studying the functional state and physical working capacity of a person are revealed. The modern hardware and software complexes used to solve scientific research problems of biomedical orientation are listed.

The article considers the problems of improving the methodology of science "public administration" related to the use of innovative areas of research, in particular, comparative studies, archetypes and imagology. The research hypothesis is based on the statement of the dynamism of the science of public administration, which is related to the specifics of the post-communist transformation of society and government, globalization and informatization. Thus, the science of public administration can and should develop only if the methodology of scientific research, the use of modern technologies and the achievements of other sciences are constantly updated. Improving research methodology is considered primarily in the light of globalization and informatization. It is claimed that new technologies allow to set and solve complex scientific problems not only in the technical but also in the humanities. The relative availability of sources and literature due to informatization requires an increase in the culture of working with them. The researcher in the field of public administration should master not only theoretical knowledge in the field of his work, but also master the skills and abilities to work with modern technologies, which significantly expands the possibilities of scientific analysis and generalization. A study of the works of Ukrainian and foreign scientists on the methodology of public administration science, as well as publications in the field of comparative studies. The intensification of the use of innovative technologies of scientific research is noted, their essence and directions of application are characterized. Some examples of such studies are given. It is revealed that the methods of comparative studies are actively used in research, which is primarily devoted to the study of foreign experience, comparison of definitions, approaches and mechanisms. Ukraine has developed its own school of archetypes, which accumulates the achievements of various sciences, uses the work of foreign scientists and seeks to expand the methodological field of archetypal research. The possibilities of imagology are still only partially used, but they provide significant additional tools for understanding the image of power.

A Signal from a marine light is the oldest and simplest of the means available to the navigator for determining his position: so old, indeed, that one may well wonder whether anything can still be added to our knowledge of it, and so simple that one may question, too, whether anything is to be gained by seeking to perfect it while such vast fields of inquiry still await imaginative scientific research. However, like all human activities, navigation is caught up in a rapid evolutionary process which calls for an adaptation of time-honoured methods to new conditions of operation. Moreover, whatever advantages modern methods of position-finding may offer, the marine light will always have one great advantage that cannot be replaced, that of being directly perceptible to the human eye. It is well worth our while, then, to have a look at any defects in the present system of marine lights and see how they may be put right.
