The paper deals with the specifics of interpretation skills development. The authors review the role of an interpreter in the act of communication, point out different aspects of interpretation, the success of which is determined by the ability for cross-cultural dialogue. As far as several sensory channels in the work of the interpreter are used, the necessity of special training of concentration, memory, thinking and oral skills and abilities is stated. Moreover the ways of cognitive processes development of future interpreters are described. It should be noted that a set of special exercises for cognitive processes perfection is given. The technique was tested during the training of third-year students studied interpreting. The paper contains a comparative analysis of results taken from diagnostics of both student groups training by the mentioned system of tasks and student groups training without this system. The studies carried out show that students training with special set of exercises focused on cognitive processes development demonstrate higher results. The data obtained can be used for further theoretical studies and for search of progressive methodical decisions.

Rokia Traoré is a Malian singer, guitarist and composer, known worldwide for her artistic syncretism and political activism. Her distinctive style blends elements of traditional Malian music with blues, folk and rock to address contemporary geopolitical and humanitarian issues. She is the artistic director of Fondation Passerelle, a non-profit organization she founded in 2006 to support young African singers and musicians by offering them high-quality professional training and work opportunities in the music industry. In this interview, she discusses her experience as songwriter and performer in Desdemona (2012), a cross-cultural theatre adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Othello staged by American director Peter Sellars, with texts by African American Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison, sharing some intimate memories and elaborating freely on the role of performers and the importance of focused listening in live stage productions.

The review goes into the monograph of the Bulgarian researcher V.V. Nikolova, dedicated to one of the most essential problems of modern human sciences — the problem of interaction and mutual influence of different national cultures. The monograph explores the processes of influence of Russian culture, primarily Russian dramaturgy, on Bulgarian culture. First of all, in this research, a new concept of establishing and development of the national Bulgarian book publishing was created. The author revealed the special role of Russian dramaturgy publications in this process. The special attention is paid to the translation issues.

The article defines the role of the method of cultural dialogue in the tolerance formation of future foreign language teachers during professional training in pedagogical institutions of higher education. It is pointed out that one of the leading methods contributing to the formation of students' tolerance is the method of dialogue of cultures, in particular, in the classes of the educational discipline "Practice of Oral and Written Speech". It is noted that for the formation of tolerance in future teachers of a foreign language, the use of this method is most expedient in conducting tolerance classes, debates, discussions, organization of role-playing and business games that promote the acquisition of students' tolerance skills, virtual excursions that provide active creative activity for students. The article explores the tradition of dialogue in Islam and Islamic history and its importance in facilitating an inter-faith and cross-cultural dialogue with the West across the binary that has been increasingly strengthened since 2001. The rise in religious extremism and hegemony is an indicator of not only a crisis in religious authority, but also an absence of dialogue, the very dialogue that had shaped and conceptualized Islam and its tradition and is an inherent part of it. I examine the way The Amman Message and A Common Word between Us and You bring back the role of dialogue and consensus in reconstructing Islam and how this has contributed to the dialogue at the international level. I also examine the role enlightenment thinking has played in promoting religious dialogue at both the internal and external levels, with the text, with traditional scholars, and with non-Muslim scholars and the non-Muslim public.

In our increasingly diverse societies, it is essential to ensure harmonious interaction among peoples and groups with plural, varied, and dynamic cultural identities as well as a willingness to co-exist. Therefore, the fostering of dialogue among cultures and peoples can only occur on the basis of the recognition of and respect for cultural diversity. In this context, for the dialogue and the interaction across the cultures, educators need to create educational actions and strategies so that cross-cultural dialogue and interaction may take place. Philately and music are two tools that can help teachers in that direction. Philately is the study of stamps, postal history, and other related items. Philately is an incredible journey into the world of stamps which give a unique view of the history and culture of a country. Stamp collections entail a wide range of topics. In this paper, we considered it useful to confine to thematics related to music, musical instruments, great musicians, etc. The present study aims at showing how specific stamp thematics can be used as a means towards teaching music and, in particular, history of music; musical instruments; and ethnomusicology. It also aims at highlighting how students, through observation and research, can discover information about other cultures and nations by taking up a creative and affordable hobby that is both educational and fun. Last, the present research focuses on how philately and stamp collections related to music can become an effective educational tool for teachers and the educational system towards promoting cross-cultural dialogue and interaction.

The present study investigated the role of cognitive processes in the maintenance of clinically significant sleep disturbance across two cultures. A questionnaire was administered to 60 Japanese and 60 English university students to assess the presence of sleep disturbance, predominance of pre-sleep cognitive activity, use of thought management strategies to control pre-sleep cognitive activity, and the content of pre-sleep cognitive activity. The results indicated that across both cultures poor sleepers attributed their sleep disturbance to the presence of uncontrollable pre-sleep cognitive activity. Minor differences between the Japanese and English samples included the strategies employed to control pre-sleep cognitive activity. The English participants were more likely to engage in reappraisal whereas the Japanese sample were more likely to engage in punishment and worry. These results are suggestive of the cross-cultural applicability of cognitive models of insomnia.

Abstract On the example of propaedeutic educational course “Introduction to Slavic Philology” features of future teachers’ professional training of cross-cultural dialogue are considered. Among the main objectives of the course, attention is focused on native language and other languages admirer’s tolerance education, students’ skills formation of making linguistic and cultural comments on folklore, literary texts and discourses; building a strategy and tactics of intercultural communication in accordance to national psychology. The examples of tokens, “ukrainisms” in Slavic languages and phrases are presented; also, it is considered Slavists as tolerant intermediaries towards intercultural cooperation of countries and peoples, the need for skills of translation activity that caused the crosscultural dialogue. Based on scientific and encyclopedic sources analysis, educational course testing is making conclusion that Slavic philology is a powerful tool for cross-cultural dialogue. It contains of big factual material that promotes understanding the process of formation and development of ethno-cultural communities in time and space, formation of human values and national identity of supranational cross-cultural thought, ways of tolerant behavior, language understanding and usage. Also it creates conditions for the realization of individuality as Ukrainian language and other languages, cultures, intellectual and emotional contacts between these languages and cultures.

The article deals with the essential aspect of modern higher education - organizational and methodic teacher's culture in the multilingual conditions. The concept of “multilingual educational environment” is stressed on. The role of the higher school teacher is reflected in the context of a cross-cultural dialogue. It is substantiated that the integration of four basic components: personality, professionalism, culture, multicultural conditions (environment) in educational process can be regarded as the factor of higher education quality improvement.
