Edible film merupakan pengemas biodegradable yang berasal dari bahan alami, termasuk karagenan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan karakteristik edible film karagenan dengan penambahan minyak atsiri bawang putih (Allium sativum) konsentrasi berbeda pada produk pasta ikan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen laboratorium menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan satu faktor yaitu konsentrasi minyak atsiri bawang putih (0%; 0,1%; 0,3%, dan 0,5%) (v/v), masing-masing perlakuan dilakukan tiga kali ulangan. Parameter uji terdiri dari kuat tarik, persen pemanjangan, laju transmisi uap air, dan aktivitas antijamur yang diisolasi dari bakso ikan, otak-otak ikan, dan sosis ikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan konsentrasi penambahan minyak atsiri bawang putih yang berbeda memberikan pengaruh nyata (p<0,05) terhadap kuat tarik, persen pemanjangan, laju transmisi uap air, dan aktivitas antijamur. Penambahan minyak atsiri bawang putih memberikan karakteristik dan aktivitas antijamur terbaik pada konsentrasi 0,5%, dengan kuat tarik sebesar 14,7 MPa, persen pemanjangan 25,98%, laju transmisi uap air 0,84 g/m2/jam, zona hambat terhadap Aspergillus niger 5,1 mm dan zona hambat terhadap Aspergillus flavus 4,13 mm.

Seeds of rice were treated with Garlic (Allium sativum) clove extract @ 1:0, 1:1, 1:2 dilutions in water, allamanda (Allamanda cathartica) leaf extract @ 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 dilutions in water and Provax-200 @ 0.3% for controlling seed borne fungi, where the seed samples of three rice varieties viz. Katharee, Gutee Aus and Kalijira were collected from farmer’s storages of Bangladesh. The seed germination under control ranged from 64 to 77%, where treatments resulted up to 100% germination. The identified seed borne fungi of rice were Bipolaris oryzae, Curvularia oryzae, Fusarium oxysporum, F. moniliforme, Nigrospora oryzae, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger and Penicillium sp., where prevalence of Bipolaris oryzae (7.5%) and Fusarium moniliforme (8.3%) were the maximum. All the treatments significantly reduced the seed borne fungi up to 100% over the control, where Provax was found best and was statically similar to garlic (1:1) extract against seed borne pathogen of rice.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/agric.v10i1.11064The Agriculturists 2012; 10(1): 46-50

<p>A utilização de espécies vegetais como fungicidas naturais é uma promissora medida para o controle de patógenos veiculados às sementes. Sementes de amendoim têm elevada suscetibilidade ao ataque de fungos habitantes do solo. Devido à importância da cultura do amendoim, o objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de extratos vegetais no controle de patógenos veiculados às sementes. Para tanto, foram utilizados extratos de alho (<em>Allium sativum</em>), carambola (<em>Averrhoa carambola</em>), eucalipto (<em>Eucaliptus </em>sp.), goiaba (<em>Psidium guajava</em>), mamona (<em>Ricinus communis</em>), melão-de-São-Caetano (<em>Momordica charantia</em>), mororó (<em>Bauhinia cheilanta</em>), mulungu (<em>Erythrina mulungu</em>), pinhão-manso (<em>Jatropha curcas</em>) e pitanga (<em>Eugenia uniflora</em>). Os extratos foram testados no tratamento de sementes e na avaliação do efeito fungitóxico sobre os patógenos <em>Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger </em>e <em>Penicillium </em>sp<em>.</em> A aplicação dos extratos vegetais diminuiu a incidência fúngica nas sementes, sendo os extratos alcoólicos de goiaba, melão-de-São-Caetano e mamona, na concentração de 100%, os mais efetivos. Os extratos vegetais alcoólicos testados mostraram efeito fungitóxico sobre os patógenos <em>A. flavus, A. niger e Penicillium </em>sp<em>. </em>Conclui-se que os extratos de goiaba, mamona e melão-de-São-Caetano são potenciais ferramentas para serem utilizadas no controle de patógenos veiculados às sementes.</p>

This article reports on the identification of mycoflora of 21 dry pet foods (12 belonging to dogs and 9 to cats) that corresponded to 8 commercial brands made in Argentina and imported. The isolation frequency and relative density of the prevalent fungal genera are compared too. Ten genera and fungi classified as Mycelia sterilia were identified. The predominant genera were Aspergillus (62%), Rhizopus (48%), and Mucor (38%). The most prevalent among Aspergillus was Aspergillus flavus followed by Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus terreus. The predominant Mucor was Mucor racemosus followed by Mucor plumbeus and Mucor globosus. The moisture content of these foods ranged from 5.6 to 10.0% and from 7.2 to 9.9% for dog and cat foods, respectively. A greater moisture content in food for the senior category (9.5 ± 0.2) was observed only in comparison to adult and kitten/puppy. If the moisture content can be maintained at these levels, mold growth would be prevented or at least it would remain at an insignificant level. Some genera and species isolated and identified from the foods analyzed are potentially producing toxins, which are known as mycotoxins. This involves a risk for animal health.

استهدفت هذه الدراسة عزل بعض أنواع الفطريات من التربة الملوثة بالهيدروكربون بمصفاة الزاوية لتكرير النفط، حيث تم عزل وتعريف بعض الفطريات مثل Rhizopus, Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus nidulans وأوضحت نتائج هذه الدراسة أن تواجد وتنوع فطر Aspergillus قد تفوق معنويا مقارنة بتواجد وتنوع فطرRhizopus. كما تم في هذه الدراسة اختبار قدرة وكفاءة الفطريات المعزولة على النمو واستغلال المركبات الهيدروكربونية المتمثلة في زيت الحمادة وزيت الشرارة بتركيز 1% و3%، حيث أوضحت النتائج بأن جنس Rhizopus سجل أعلى معدل للنمو على الوسط الغذائي Malt Extract Agar، وسجل كلا من فطر A. fumigatus وفطر A. flavus معدّل النمو القطري أعلى معنويا من النمو القطري لفطرA. niger  وفطر A. nidulans. هذه المعدّلات العالية تدل على إمكانية استخدام الفطريات المعزولة في المعالجة البيولوجية للتربة الملوّثة بالنفط.

<p>The post-harvest fungi is one of the greatest cause of various diseases. Particularly, in fungus that infects seeds, the toxic substance called aflatoxin is found. This has caused us to wonder: Has fungi been pathogenic fungi since the beginning of creation? The purpose of this research is to study: 1) The Place of Fungi in God’s Original Creation and the Origin of Pathogenic Fungi, 2) Characterization of post-harvest fungus on corn seeds, 3) Aspergillus sp.’s Structure as Proof of God’s Wonderful Original Creation and Providence, and 4) The factors that contribute to the growth of fungi in post-harvest corn seeds and our responsibility. We conclude that in the beginning, fungi were a part of God’s originally good and perfect creation. These fungi were created by God with the structure and function to support its operation in fulfilling God’s creative purpose. The complex structure of Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus that infected the corn seeds showed God’s providence after the Fall. Pathogenic fungi were the result of the Fall of man into sin. Their growth is caused by the failure to give proper care to the crops. But this should not discourage us since the Bible tells us that God is continually working to restore His creation. Therefore, we are called to be stewards of His creation, to develop and preserve whatever is entrusted in our hands, including the crops for God’s glory and under His authority until He has fully renewed and restored everything.</p><p><strong>BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT:</strong> Jamur pasca panen merupakan salah satu penyebab terbesar timbulnya berbagai penyakit, khususnya disebabkan oleh jamur yang menginfeksi biji-bijian dan menghasilkan substansi beracun disebut dengan aflatoksin. Keadaan ini menimbulkan pertanyaan apakah jamur patogenik ada sejak awal penciptaan? Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari: 1) Posisi jamur patogenik di awal penciptaan dan asal mula jamur patogenik, 2) karakteristik jamur pasca panen pada biji jagung, 3) struktur <em>Aspergillus</em> sp sebagai bukti dari providensi Allah akan ciptaanNya yang sangat luar biasa, 4) faktor-faktor yang berkontribusi terhadap pertumbuhan jamur pasca panen biji jagung dan Tanggung jawab kita. Dari hasil penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa pada mulanya, jamur merupakan bagian ciptaan Allah yang sungguh amat baik dan sempurna. Struktur yang kompleks dari <em>Aspergillus niger</em> dan <em>Aspergillus flavus </em>yang menginfeksi biji jagung menunjukkan providensi Allah setelah kejatuhan dosa. Pertumbuhan jamur patogenik merupakan gambaran kejatuhan manusia ke dalam dosa yaitu kegagalan manusia untuk memberikan pemeliharaan yang memadahi pada biji-bijian pasca panen. Namun demikian, keadaan ini tidak mematahkan semangat kita karena Alkitab mengatakan bahwa Allah masih terus bekerja untuk memulihkan ciptaanNya. Oleh karena itu, diharapkan kita semua menjadi pelayan atas ciptaanNya untuk mengembangkan dan menjaga apa yang dipercayakan kepada kita di bawah otoritasNya termasuk biji-bijian untuk memuliakan Allah hingga Dia secara penuh memperbaharui dan memulihkan segala sesuatu</p>

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) beragam spesies jamur patogen tular-benih pada lima varietas padi, dan (2) persentase daya kecambah lima varietas padi. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Karantina Pertanian Kelas I Semarang, dari bulan Maret sampai dengan Mei 2019. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 5 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan, perlakuan terdiri atas Varietas Inpago Unsoed 1, Inpago Unsoed Parimas, IR64, Ciherang, dan Situ Bagendit. Isolasi dan identifikasi jamur patogen tular-benih dilakukan pada blotter test dan medium PDA, dengan pengamatan di bawah mikroskop stereo dan kompon, kemudian dibandingkan dengan pustaka. Variabel yang diamati yaitu morfologi koloni patogen, morfologi patogen, dan daya kecambah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) pada semua varietas benih padi terdapat jamur patogen tular-benih, tetapi tidak semua jamur tersebut dijumpai pada setiap varietas. Jenis jamur patogen tular-benih yang dijumpai, yaitu Alternaria padwickii Ganguly, Aspergillus flavus Link, Aspergillus niger van Tieghem, Curvularia lunata (Wakker) Boedjin, Curvularia pallescens Boedjin, Drechslera oryzae Breda de Haan, Fusarium semitectum Berk. & Rav. [W&R, G,B,J], Rhizoctonia solani J. G. Kuhn, Rhizopus oryzae Went & Prins. Geerl., dan Tilletia barclayana Bref., dan (2) uji daya kecambah menunjukkan bahwa masing-masing varietas benih padi memilki persentase daya kecambah benih yang berbeda. Daya kecambah benih berturut-turut pada varietas IR64, Ciherang, Inpago Unsoed 1, Inpago Unsoed Parimas, dan Situ Bagendit sebesar 85,75, 81,75, 80,25, 76,5, dan 70%.

 Objective: This study was aimed to identify the public pattern of presentation, influencing factors, and sort the fungal species, distribution of sex of patients with otomycosis.Results: The predominant complaints were pruritus and found in 76 patients (88.73%), discomfort and pain found in 62 patients (72.09%), aural fullness in 48 patients (55.81%), tinnitus in 34 patients (39.53%), hearing impairment in 50 cases (58.31%), ear discharge in 22 patients (25.58%), and most of the symptoms seen in 36 patients (68.14%). The results showed a total of eight fungal species belong to six different genera, namely, Aspergillus, Candida, Penicillium, Rhizopus, Alternaria, and Cephalosporium were isolated during this study. Among identified fungi, Aspergillus niger was found to be the most prevalent fungal species with 35.71% followed by Candida albicans (27.55%), Aspergillus flavus (10.20%), Aspergillus fumigatus (8.16), Penicillium digitatum (6.12%) and Cephalosporium species (4.08%), and Rhizopus species (5.1%), while Alternaria alternata had the lowest percentage (6.54%).Conclusion: Otomycosis/mycotic otitis externa is still a common problem and there is a rise in the occurrence of otomycosis in latest years, especially in tropical and subtropical humid climates.

A radiação gama, proveniente da fonte de 60Co, é bastante utilizada para esterilização, visando a prevenção da decomposição e a toxidez de origem microbiana em diversos produtos. O grau de radiossensibilidade de um embrião vegetal depende da espécie, do estágio de seu desenvolvimento durante a radiação, da dose empregada e do critério usado para medir o efeito biológico, sendo comumente utilizado o teste de germinação. Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, estudar a sensibilidade do amendoim a radiação gama e seus efeitos na germinação, no vigor e na micoflora das sementes da cultivar BRS Havana, irradiadas com uma fonte de 60Co, tipo gammacell, com taxa de dosagem de 12,5 kGy h-1. As doses testadas em kGy foram as seguintes: 0; 0,5; 1,0; 1,5; 2,0; 2,5; 3,0; 6,0; 9,0; 12,0; 15,0; 18,0; 21,0 e 24,0. Com os resultados obtidos, concluiu-se que as doses acima de 3,0 kGy prejudicaram a viabilidade das sementes e as doses acima de 12 kGy comprometeram totalmente o vigor e a germinação das sementes de amendoim. A radiação a partir da dose 2,0 kGy eliminou os fungos Aspergillus flavus e Aspergillus niger e, a partir da dose 3,0 kGy, eliminou o Aspergillus glaucus. O Penicilium spp. permaneceu em mais de 30% das sementes em todos os tratamentos com radiação, não sendo eliminado até a dose de 24 kGy.
