ABSTRACT Objective: To determine frequency of dysphagia risk and associated factors in hospitalized patients as well as to evaluate nutritional status by using different methods and correlate the status with scores of the Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10). Methods: This was a cross-sectional study including 909 inpatients of a philanthropic hospital. For the diagnosis of dysphagia we used an adapted and validated Brazilian version of the Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10). The nutritional status was evaluated through the subjective global assessment, and anthropometric measurements included weight, calf and arm circumference, and knee height. The Mann-Whitney test, associations using the Pearson’s χ2 and Spearman’s correlation were used to verify differences between the groups. Results: The prevalence of dysphagia risk was 10.5%, and aging was the associated factor with this condition. Patients at risk presented lower values of arm and calf circumference, variables that correlated inversely with the Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10) score. Malnutrition was observed in 13.2% of patients based on the subjective global assessment and in 15.2% based on the Body Mass Index. Conclusion: Screening for dysphagia and malnutrition should be introduced in hospitals routine to avoid or minimize damages caused by dysphagia or malnutrition, especially among older people.

Introduction: Tuberculosis infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis is one of the most common infectious diseases, especially in countries such as Iran. The course of treatment and the number of drugs used vary depending on the severity of the disease and the parts of the body involved. The resistant tuberculosis to treatment has increased in recent years. Thus, this study was conducted to investigate the frequency distribution of response to treatment of patients with tuberculosis in Sirjan, Iran. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study investigated all patients with tuberculosis in Sirjan city who had referred to health centers during the years 2011-2019. The data collection tool was a pre-prepared checklist that included information on age, sex, sputum smear results, sputum culture results, diabetes, patients' nationality, drug side effects, and response to treatment. Finally, data was entered into SPSS version 22, and analyzed. Results: In this study, the overall response rate was 83% and the mortality rate was 10%. Between the frequency distribution of response to treatment in terms of gender, age, sputum smear results, sputum culture results, patients' nationality and diabetes was not statistically significant difference. Also, no statistically significant difference was found between the frequency distribution of pulmonary TB treatment response in terms of drug allergy, drug hepatitis and other drug side effects. Conclusion: According to results, can be concluded that none of the variables: age, sex, smear and culture result, and history of diabetes have no an effect on response to treatment and mortality of tuberculosis.

Objective: to analyze the nutritional status of adolescents in the status state of Pará, Brazil, in order to observe the trends in the Height x Age and BMI x Age indexes. Material and Methods: it was a quantitative, retrospective and cross-sectional study from 2010 to 2019. The female and male sex were evaluated in each nutritional status index “Height x Age” and “BMI x Age”. The collected data were organized in Microsoft Excel 2010 software and statistics was performed in the Action Stat 3.7 program. A theoretical framework was adopted with complete scientific articles published in the BVS, SciELO, MEDLINE, LILACS databases and institutional documents. The ethics committee's assessment was not necessary. Results: in “Height x Age”, a total of 132,114 adolescents were registered and the female gender prevailed (65.8%), normality in the distribution of data was observed and a difference was noted in the category “Suitable for age”, which registered more notifications (80.9%). In the "BMI x Age", 132,204 were reported, a normal distribution was found, but there was a statistical difference between the sexes in the categories: "overweight", "obesity", "severe obesity" and "eutrophy", which represented the largest percentage (73.4%). Conclusion: the population is mostly female, and the distribution of records is heterogeneous. Both sexes were shown to be of adequate height for their age and eutrophic. However, it was noticed that the nutritional scenario is changing, which may lead, in the future, to public health problems, such as the increase in the number of patients with chronic non-communicable diseases.

A cross sectional study was carried out among the adolescent boys (11-15 years) in two selective schools (University Laboratory School and Udoyan School) in Dhaka University campus to investigate the nutritional and health status as well as socioeconomic condition. Nutritional status was determined anthropometrically and biochemically (hemoglobin estimation). According to the body mass index, two-third of the boys (75.7%) were normal, 15.4% were over-weight and only 8.9% were found to be thinner. The percent prevalence of anemia was 7.1% based on WHO criteria and the mean hemoglobin level was 14.35 g/dl (±1.38). Energy intake of the boys aged 11-12 years met 79.31% of RDA and those of 13-15 years met 76.09% of RDA. Protein intake of all the boys was more than RDA. Dietary intake of vitamin A was more than 90% of RDA. and that for thiamin and niacin was more than RDA. Iron intake was 60.4% and 66.45% of RDA for the two groups of boys. Vitamin C intake was inadequate (46.76% and 36.06% RDA) for the respective group of boys. Nutritional status (anthropometric) is directly associated with expenditure on food. Percentage of thinness decreased as expenditure on food increased. Monthly expenditure on food had significant relation with hemoglobin level of the adolescents. Most of the participants (67 .5%) did not suffer from any disease. Rest of the boys suffered from fever (23.6%), diarrhea (10.9%), common, cold (29.1 %), respiratory infection (9.1 %), measles (3.6%), typhoid (5.5%) and others (18.2%).5
