This study aims to describe and interpret the hybridity and mimicry in Iksaka Banu's novel, Pangeran dari Timur. This research is a descriptive qualitative study with a postcolonial approach. The data in this study are symptoms of hybridity and mimicry in the data source, namely the novel Pangeran dari Timur by Iksaka Banu. Data were collected using reading and note-taking techniques. The collected data then analyzed using the interactive analysis technique of Miles and Huberman. The results show that in the novel Pangeran dari Timur by Iksaka Banu, there is hybridity which includes the educational hybridity, fashion style, and the meaning of transportation. The mimicry contained in the novel is in the form of imitating lifestyle, ways of dressing, and transportation instrument.

This study aims to analyze the images found in the novel Maleficent by Elizabeth Rudnick in 2014. This is a descriptive qualitative study. The method of data collection is by observation (reading) and note taking (underlining). The result of the analysis is to find out the nine archetypal images. The images are water (river), sun, colors (red, green, blue, black, white), serpent, number (three), good mothers, wise old man, garden, and tree. The images are able to enlighten the fantasy moment created by the writer and bring the readers’ experiences to the literary work of fantacy.   Keywords: Archetypal Image, Maleficent, Novel

This undergraduate thesis entitled Types of Passive Construction in the Novel Say You’re Sorry by Michael Robotham is aimed at analyzing the types of passive voice found in the novel and figuring out which one among them is the most dominant used in the novel. The data source of this study was taken from Michael Robotham’s Say You’re Sorry which was published by Sphere in 2012. This study is a descriptive qualitative and quantitative research and the method used to collect the data was the documentation method using the note taking technique. The result of this study shows that there are only three types of passive voice found in the novel: be passive, get passive, and bare passive. From 219 passive sentences taken from the novel, 207 of them is be passive with the percentages of 95% while there are only 7 sentences of get passive with percentage of 3% and 5 sentences of bare passive type with the percentage of only 2%.

This study aimed to describe the form of tolerance values in the novel Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika by Hanum Salsabiela Rais and Rangga Almahendra. The research method which was used is descriptive qualitative. The data collection used reading and note-taking techniques. The data in this study was a novel entitled Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika. The data source in this study were quotes which were contained in the novel. The analysis technique which was used is the content analysis technique. The theory used is the theory of tolerance values found in each text by paying attention to the elements of tolerance values. The results of this study indicated that there was a tolerance value that included in four elements. The first element was to give freedom or independence. The second element was recognizing the rights of each individual, then the third element was respecting the beliefs of others, and the fourth element is mutual understanding. One aspect of character education was a tolerance. For this reason, the results of this study could be used as material for character education. That was because the research results of the novel entitled the Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika were in accordance with the four elements of tolerance values.

This study aims to reveal the local colors in the Adipati Waringin Legend in the Cirebon Regency. This research was a descriptive qualitative study with an ethnographic approach. In obtaining data, researchers used interview, observation, and documentation as techniques. These data were processed and tested using triangulation. Then the data is analyzed using the interactive analysis technique model of Miles and Huberman. The results showed that the traditional ceremony of Ngunjung or Sedekah Bumi, Karangreja Village in Cirebon Regency is a form of local color associated with the Adipati Waringin Legend.

Penelitian ini mencoba meneroka anasir kuliner dalam novel Pulang karya Leila S. Chudori. Melalui pendekatan gastronomi sastra, penelitian ini menggali filosofi makanan yang dihadirkan da-lam novel Pulang karya Leila S. Chudori, bagaimana tokoh dalam novel memperlakukan kuliner, serta bagaimana representasi keindonesiaan yang ada dalam kuliner di novel tersebut. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan sumber data novel Pulang karya Leila S. Chudori. Unsur-unsur yang berhubungan dengan kuliner dalam novel Pulang karya Leila S. Chudori menjadi data dalam pe-nelitian ini dan dikumpulkan dengan teknik studi dokumen atau pustaka. Data kemudian dianalisis dengan model analisis interaktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) makanan yang terdapat dalam novel Pulang karya Leila S. Chudori adalah satai kambing, kue putu, bir, kopi, pindang serani, dan nasi kuning. Kuliner-kuliner tersebut mengusung filosofi masing-masing; (2) tokoh dalam novel Pulang karya Leila S. Chudori begitu memuliakan makanan; (3) melalui kuliner, tokoh dalam novel menegaskan identitas kebangsaan mereka.Kata kunci: kuliner; novel;identitas bangsa[Culinary and Indonesian Identity in Leila S. Chudori’s Novel Pulang] This research tries to explore the culinary elements in Leila S. Chudori’s novel Pulang. Through a literary gastronomy approach, this research explores the food philosophy presented in the novel, how the characters in the novel treat culinary, as well as how the representations of Indonesian-ness in culinary in the novel. This research is a descriptive qualitative research using the novel Pulang as the data source. The elements related to culinary in the novel became the data in this study and were collected using document or literature study techniques. The data were then analyzed using the interactive analysis model. The results show that (1) the foods contained in Leila S. Chudori’s Pulang are satai kambing, putu cake, beer, coffee, pindang serani, and yellow rice. These culinary delights carry their respective philosophies; (2) the character in Pulang exalts food; (3) through culinary delights, the characters in the novel confirm their national identity.

            (Title: Violence in Toxic Friendship Between Women in Amélie Nothomb's “Antéchrista” Novel). Violence is often identified with masculine expressions inherent in men. However, in reality, it is not gender-exclusive because women are also enabled to do so, including against those closest to them such as friends, as revealed in the novel Antéchrista by Amélie Nothomb, a Belgian francophone writer. This study aims to examine how the theme of violence in the 'toxic friendship' between women is displayed in the novel. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a feminist literary criticism approach. The data were collected from the novel using the note-taking technique and analyzed using the content analysis technique. The data consisting of words, phrases, and sentences in French were then translated by the researchers to be classified, interpreted, and studied. The result of the research shows that the novel Antéchrista presents women as victims who are also perpetrators of violence through oppression against each other, motivated by jealousy and intrasexual competition. The form of violence is in the form of psychological and verbal which is manifested in the form of intimidation, humiliation, and ostracism. Keywords: opression, toxic friendship, resistensi, women, feminist literature criticism

This study aims to describe symbolic form of sign used to describe the emotions of Pasutri Gaje comic characters. Theoretically, this study discusses tropes symbols as additional elements whose existence has a major influence on conveying the emotions of the characters to the readers. This is a descriptive qualitative study. Apply the theory of semiotics proposed by Ferdinand de Saussure about dichotomy signifie dan significant and Pierce about triadic feature of sign.  Datas sourced from picture of online comic Pasutri Gaje season 1 until episode 13 season 3. Datas is collected by observing method with recording and note-taking technique. Data were analysed by extralingual equivalent methods and comparative relational techniques. Data presented used formal and informal method.             There seven kind of emotions symbol called tropes symbol used in comic. There were cross popin for angry sign, sweat drops to clumsy sign, drool to show feeling tempted, chibi to show childish side, dog ear/tail to express innocence in expecting something, blush to express feeling embarrassed, and shadow over face to show extreme anger. Tropes symbols fulfills the element of signification in accordance with the concept proposed by Pierce hence it can convey the emotional situation of character to the readers.

This study aimed to find out and describe the struggle of an older sister to her younger siblings. Struggle was to progress with difficulty or to make a strenuous effort. Effort and struggle were directed towards the achieving of an end which was realized as one’s ideal. Struggle meant everything that was done to achieve a goal. Effort and hard work had to be achieved as the key to success. All of that were an attempt to achieve something expected for the sake of glory and kindness. The data analysis technique used was descriptive qualitative analysis. The descriptive research attempted to describe, explain and interpret conditions of the present or descriptive research sought to provide an accurate description of observations of a phenomenon. The results of the study showed that struggle in the novel was concerned with: (1) to earn a better living, (2) to give proper education, (3) to save life.

This research uses the object of the novel "The Educator" by Aguk Irawan MN. This novel tells the hegemony of intellectual figures and social classes who influence by instilling their ideology in certain groups by inviting goodness. The purpose of this research is to find and describe the hegemony of teachers to students in the novel "The Educator" by Aguk Irawan MN. In this study using qualitative methods by collecting data library and document techniques. The data source in this study was obtained from the novel "The Educator" by Aguk Irawan MN, published by Qalam Nusantara. Data analysis techniques in this study used a hermeniotic reader analysis technique, namely the stages of reading, marking, coding, interpretation and presentation of conclusions. The results of this study discuss the hegemony of Martokan as a teacher to his students. Martokan hegemony his students by giving advice to be a good person, Martokan also hegemony through the material described to tell the history of Sunan Drajat and Sunan Duwur, so that it will make his students enthusiastic in learning the Koran.

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan: (1) mendeskripsikan insting perilaku purposif tokoh dalam konteks keputusan menjadi seorang caleg, (2) mendeskripsikan dampak insting perilaku purposif tokoh terhadap diri tokoh mengambil keputusan novel Namaku Subardjo karya Hapsari Hanggarini. Metode yang digunakan deskriptif kualitatif. Teori yang digunakan penelitian ini teori psikologi sastra insting purposif McDougall. Sumber data secara eksplisit berupa dokumen, yaitu novel Namaku Subardjo karya Hapsari Hanggarini terbitan tahun 2015. Data penelitian berupa kalimat atau dialog, satuan cerita yang mengarah pada insting perilaku purposif yang dilakukan tokoh. Pemerolehan data menggunakan teknik membaca dan mencatat informasi terkait insting kutipan novel. Hasil penelitian dalam novel Namaku Subardj menunjukkan:  (1) bentuk perilaku insting purposif tokoh utama berupa insting menyelamatkan diri, insting penasaran, insting berkontruksi, insting penuntutan, dan insting tertawa dan (2) dampak perilaku dalam pengambilan keputusan, yakni insting perubahan perilaku purposif tokoh dengan lebih meningkatkan kualitas diri melalui literasi untuk menjadi caleg. Kata Kunci: insting, perilaku, psikologi, purposif   AbstractThe research aims to (1) describe the character’s purposive behavior instincts in the context of the decision to become a legislative candidate, (2) describe the impact of the character’s purposive behavior instincts in the novel Namaku Subardjo by Hapsari Hanggarini. The method used descriptive qualitative. The theory used research is McDougall’s purposive instinct pschology theory. The data source is explicity, the novel Namaku Subardjo by Hapsari Hanggarini published in 2015. The data of this research is in the form of sentence or dialogue, a story unit that leads to the character’s. The results of the research can be understood Namaku Subarjo’s Novel, (1) The form of purposive instinct behavior in the main character is the instict to save oneself, The curios instinct, the construct instict, the instict for prosecution and the laugh instinct, and (2) The impact of behavior in decision making is the instinct for purposive behavior.
