The article directed to research of the oriental direction in the scientific activity of the famous historian jurist Zhidkov Oleg Andreevich. We analyzed his author’s provisions from textbooks and scientific publications from the middle of the last century, in which he developed a non-trivial outline for comparative oriental studies, as an integral part of the historical school of the RUDN University. Among the important achievements of the professor Zhidkov, there is a bibliographic analysis of the authority works of Western orientalists and Russian oriental jurists, his specific approach to political genesis and the emergence of ancient law, and his polemics with Western orientalists on the varna/class division of the Ancient Eastern population. Zhidkov’s research is also aimed at the identification of a hydrotechnical type of economy (‘landwater commune’), and comparative historical description of the Eastern law and legal institutions. The field of discussion remains the systematicity of law and legal codification in the Ancient East, which his colleagues and followers of his teachings are developing in our days in the scientific heritage of O.A. Zhidkov.

The article deals with the results of the analysis of international and domestic experience in the use of network services, which can independently evaluate the quality of electronic publications and scientists’ publication activity. It can be achieved by the analysis of the values of scientometric indicators included in the bibliometric open electronic systems. This approach is associated with certain risks of objective evaluation of researchers’ scientific activity efficiency. The conditions for the inclusion of scientific publications in the search systems like Google Scholar are considered. It is concluded that the scientometric base, which is today an international and widely used in practice, should be developed to provide a more adequate reflection of the character and level of scientists’ scientific activity, as well as their personal contribution to the development of certain areas of science.

AbstractDrug discovery and subsequent availability of a new breakthrough therapeutic or ‘cure’ is a compelling example of societal benefit from research advances. These advances are invariably collaborative, involving the contributions of many scientists to a discovery network in which theory and experiment are built upon. To understand such scientific advances, data mining of public and commercial data sources coupled with network analysis can be used as a digital methodology to assemble and analyze component events in the history of a therapeutic. This methodology is extensible beyond the history of therapeutics and its use more generally supports (i) efficiency in exploring the scientific history of a research advance (ii) documenting and understanding collaboration (iii) portfolio analysis, planning and optimization (iv) communication of the societal value of research. As a proof of principle, we have conducted a case study of five anti-cancer therapeutics. We have linked the work of roughly 237,000 authors in 106,000 scientific publications that capture the research crucial for the development of these five therapeutics. We have enriched the content of networks of these therapeutics by annotating them with information on research awards as well as peer review that preceded these awards. Applying retrospective citation discovery, we have identified a core set of publications cited in the networks of all five therapeutics and additional intersections in combinations of networks as well as awards from the National Institutes of Health that supported this research. Lastly, we have mapped these awards to their cognate peer review panels, identifying another layer of collaborative scientific activity that influenced the research represented in these networks.

The experimental period in the history of immunology as a science can be attributed to the years of scientific activity of the world-famous bacteriologist and immunologist Jules Bordeaux, who was the first to experimentally prove the physicochemical nature of such immune reactions as agglutination, hemolysis, precipitation. He was also involved in revealing the nature of phagocytosis reactions and established the relationship between the virulence of the microorganism and the presence of a capsule and phagocytosis. Owing to the discovery of Jules Bordeaux, mankind became aware of the cytotoxic properties of blood serum. Bordeaux’s scientific heritage was the elucidation of the role of complement in immunological processes, which was proved experimentally during the work of a young scientist at the Pasteur Institute in the laboratory of I. I Mechnikov, who considered J. Bordeaux one of his favorite students. In collaboration with Octave Zhangou, the complement fixation reaction underlying Wasserman’s reaction was first proposed. Bordeaux is well known around the world for the «driving force» of immunity — the connection of antigen to antibody. He can be regarded as one of the founders of the method of serodiagnosis. Bordeaux was the director of the Pasteur Institute in Brussels for 35 years, the world’s only autonomous Pasteur Institute unrelated to Paris. Jules Bordeaux’s scientific legacy continued and became the basis for many epoch-making discoveries in medicine, including the explanation of the mechanisms of anaphylaxis, the study of blood clotting, the discovery of blood groups, etc. The theoretical substantiation of immunological reactions became the beginning of a new diagnostic direction in laboratory practice — immunoassay, which includes thousands of modern laboratory methods

Managerial innovations have become the topic of interest for many scholars, but this concept remains underdeveloped and poorly managed among the academy and business community in Russia. This paper offers the composition of approach to definition and classifi cation of managerial innovations, formed on the basis of exploration of the concept “managerial innovation” evolution, and estimation of the relationship with a more general concept “innovation”. The suggested composition of approach is based on the three-stage bibliographic analysis of scientific literature. In course of the bibliographic research, scientific articles were selected according to the key words, period of publication and citation index. 140 scientific publications were identified and collected for the period from 1975 to 2019 covering citation indexes from 0 to 12 476 by Web of Science citation database and from 4 to 2 185 by Scopus database. On the basis of the conducted bibliographic research, the author introduces his definition of innovation and managerial innovation and explains the connection between them. Within the conducted research different approaches to classification of managerial innovations were studied and on their basis a new approach to classification of managerial innovations was proposed. The findings can be useful for different avenues of further research regarding managerial innovations.
